Surprised we don't have anything going on this topic. See if it goes anywhere, but I came here to ask for support on the Oculus/Quest.

Family got me a Quest 2 for my bday. I've been holding out for the next release and/or PSVR2, but eh, I'll take it!

Suggestions for best games to play on it?

I picked up a few accessories too:
- Strap with Battery and Carrying Case - https://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&lo...
- Fat Sweaty Man Visor - https://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&lo...

Any others I should be looking at?

Thanks!

@citizen_zane this is awesome news, had no idea. I have Tetris Effect on my Oculus and will definitely check this out. Thanks for the heads up!

Safe to assume a PS5 controller would work as well yeah?

You would think so, but I have no idea. From what I have read, it sounds like some XBox controllers are easiest to connect to it.

There isn't much (or any?) PlayStation VR discussion in here but that's the only one I have access to, so just ignore this post if you don't have one.
I was browsing the PlayStation Store last night and saw a new Transformers VR game had released last week. I can't find too many reviews on YouTube from the channels I normally look to for VR reviews and there are none on Metacritic.

Anyone here played it? It looks to be exclusive to PlayStation VR and that'll limit its audience more than just being a VR game already does. I watched a few videos and I guess it's an on-rails arcade style shooter. I don't know if I want to pay $20 for it because VR games are often short as it is, and I don't know how much replay value I'd get out of it.

I honestly haven’t even turned my PSVR on since I got Quest 2 in January
But that’s mostly due to a softly annoying setup I have (while quest is wireless and perfectly free of such troubles), I do plan on going back to it soon, still have like 10 exclusives I wanna rock on there

And ill def buy PSVR 2, just wish it was fully wireless but one wire isnt too bad i guess

I haven't played much PSVR this year either, but especially in Summer I often avoid using it because of how hot you get when wearing the headset.

Despite not using it much this year I've still been buying games for it here and there during PSN sales, got probably around 20-ish games (haven't actually counted) that haven't been played a single time yet. I'll be moving next month and I hope to get more VR time in after I've settled in. My only complaint is that because I have the original PSVR, the box thingy that connects to the PS4/PS5 prevents me from being able to have HDR enabled on my TV. I don't know if they sell the Version 2 of that connector box thingy on its own (not even sure what it's called).

Yeah, I believe the v2 PSVR box did allow for HDR passthrough. But don't quote me on that, it's been awhile.

I find myself thinking about playing my Quest 2 more than I actually want to play it. I just really need to be in the right mood I guess. But I do always enjoy it. And I do keep my eye out for sales a lot.

Yeah. The version 2 one does have HDR passthrough.

I finally managed to find a review of that Transformers VR game I mentioned. Absolutely going to pass on it at $20. There are only six stages and it took the reviewer barely an hour to finish playing through them on the default difficulty.

In addition to that, the game doesn't even have Trophies. I game a lot on my Switch so I am used to playing through games without any Trophies/Achievements, but I thought those are a requirement when releasing your game on the other consoles? I don't know how they got around it.

Anyway, looking forward to new info/games for PSVR 2 tomorrow.

A look at some of the new features of PS VR2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5L9Mvh7tAk

Do any of the VR headsets on PC offer built-in rumble? That sounds like a feature that could either be awesome, or it's gonna take too long for devs to figure out how to use it right without causing potential headaches for the player.

I noticed RE 8 footage is included. I own Resident Evil VIII on PS4 but haven't played it yet. Now I'm just gonna wait and see if it is getting re-released on PS5 as a standalone VR game, or some kind of DLC expansion, or if the current version will get a free update that adds it. I almost expect it would be a re-release because Capcom really likes selling you their games over and over.
Either way, the first time I played RE 7 was in VR mode and after that decided I would never play it without VR, so I'm glad I waited so I can do the same for RE 8.

The Valve Index was $1k over 2 1/2 years ago when it came out. So $1500 isn't that crazy of a price if this is truly is a high-tier product. But I just don't think it is, or will sell well.

The Quest became popular because of the price and the vast game library...well, because of the price. Take away "the deal" and this new set is a big ask.

Having a PC makes that library as large as the Index.

Honestly, I don't think the Metaverse is gonna work this round and ultimately they'll all pull out.

Jesus to those on Teams using the new Mesh Avatars, how f'ing creepy. I mean, I get why these companies 'think' this is what consumers and professionals want, but my naive mind and social circles, all say differently.

Still, it's the younger generation that will ultimately deem it viable or not. I don't think we're ready, yet. Keep it a niche thing for gaming. Wait till we're full blown Ready Player One to adopt a larger scale of social interaction, commerce, and working.

The Metaverse portion of the company had revenue drop to I think $250M from an expected $400M or something. Certainly not great, but overall it's not just VR that's a problem at Meta. Their other products and services are hurting more (but are also larger).

I think this weekend I'm going to force myself to play the Quest 2. I enjoy it a lot when I play but just always seem to prefer the couch and Xbox when I have to the time to play something. I think I've even bought a couple games on sale that I haven't even tried yet: Ven (or Zen?...the Astro-bot-like platformer) & Walkabout Minigolf.

Has anyone been able to cast to a Microsift Display Adapter from the Oculus? I have the old MS Display Adapter, and after updating firmware, doesn't show up.

I also have one of the new 4k MS Display Adapters, but ... no idea where it is. Tried Googling, didn't find anything worthwhile. Debating If I should buy another one or not, as this would be a great device to have in the bag for travle purposes. Going to a family members house tomorrow, and would rather use a display adapter than setting up a Chromecast.

Thanks

Offbrand charge station for $30 before the PSVR2 hardware is out seems sketchy. I'm sure they have dev units available to use but $30 seems awfully cheap given the potential audience.

Why? The official one is $50 so it would make sense to make it cheaper or else why would you get it? Is the concern that the device wouldn?t t sit nicely on it?

Either way I just preordered it. The company seems to make plenty of other products and if it doesn?t work I can return it easily

I dusted off the Quest 2 this weekend and rather enjoyed it. I do have fun when I play but I almost always just go for flatscreen gaming instead. I think I’m going to make more of an effort to play the quest. I’m excited about the PSVR2 but I think the quest will hold me over for awhile.

I bought Walkabout Minigolf at some point but tried it out for the first time and it’s a lot of fun, and pretty relaxing.

Read up a bit on this on Reddit and found this response interesting..

“Does this story not sound familiar to anyone?

Takashi Mochizuki is the same journalist who claimed Sony had revised their launch PS5 numbers skyward, before later reporting Sony had revised their launch numbers downward, generating a lot of negative press before launch. Sony rarely respond to bogus reports, but for Mochizuki they made an exception, issuing a press release stating that PS5 launch numbers remain the same and had never altered. In essence, Takashi Mochizuki concocted a second "source familiar with affairs" to backtrack instead of acknowledging his first report was erroneous.

Now consider this. The 2 million launch figure never arrived from Sony. It was yet another Takashi Mochizuki invention.

Takashi Mochizuki, October 3, 2022:

Sony Group Corp. plans to make 2 million units of the PlayStation VR2 headset by March next year, people familiar with the matter said

Takashi Mochizuki, January 31, 2023:

The company halved its forecast for shipments of the PSVR2 ... to about a million units, said people familiar with its deliberations.

This guy invents fictitious numbers only to refute them at a later date.“

IGN posted an article based on what Mochizuki said, so I posted a comment about how Sony had refuted that with the link to the article from gameindustry.biz, and they kept it in moderator limbo (not approved). Then, I posted again without the link but described where it could be found without using the link. About 10 minutes later, IGN updated the article using the link I was trying to post that they still hadn't approved and changed the headline to "Sony Denies Reports of PlayStation VR2 Production Being Slashed" lol.
