I mean, I tried it at launch and it was pretty cool. All things considered, doesn't feel like they did a good job on marketing it.

At least they're refunding hardware and software purchases.

Wonder if this is related to the Netflix gaming announcement. Good opportunity for Microsoft to do some mud slinging.

After letting the Stadia controller die, i was able to repeat the process. Bluetooth unlocked, paired and works perfectly on Fire TV.

Thanks for the reminder @MrBean - had to go dig mine out and charge it, but it's now converted over to Bluetooth, wasn't difficult and maybe I'll use it with a phone or tablet, my PC has BT as well, which is nice.

This was a reminder for me as well. My controller was at 0% charge. I used it for a whole 5 minutes back when I initially got it.

While I use Xbox or DualSense for most things now adays, this might be a fun controller to play some retro games with.

I beat a handful of games on Stadia with the controller connected to my PC and TV. It wasn't too bad, but the big snag for me was the capture button on the right (to the left of the X) was more/less in the same spot as the hamburger button on the X1/Series controller that I am way more accustomed to. So I frequently hit that instead of the hamburger button I wanted, which is above it on the Stadia controller. So I took a good number of screenshots that I later had to delete. It's similar on the the other side as well, with the share button's placement vs. the ... button that would be like a select button I suspect. Hopefully if I go to use it, I can easily remap that.

I think it's okay. Some people don't like the position of the analog sticks, and I personally found the position of the utility buttons really awkward, like @Slickriven noted above.

It's not a great controller for latency either. It was meant to be connected over wifi with Bluetooth only handling pairing, firmware updates, audio, etc. The team was able to turn it into a vanilla Bluetooth controller, but the device itself isn't optimized for fast Bluetooth inputs.

Interesting to think that BT will be laggy - sort of lame, but at least it's not just a total throw away.
Since it is USB-C, I would think/hope that control commands get sent over that?? If so, then it should be a decent wired controller to a PC or possibly Android device.
I generally use an X1/Series controller on my PC over microUSB cord, so wired on PC doesn't bother me.

Yeah, it's totally fine as a wired controller.

It says that once you switch from wifi to Bluetooth on the controller, you can't switch back. The permanent change once you go to Bluetooth seems strange to me. I wonder why they do that. Is it a software thing? Like some sort of "once you overwrite this code, it can't be rewritten"

Likely "could" be done, but they'd have had to develop software to downgrade the firmware. Them having a one and done approach is easier on their end.
