Considering Sonic Mania was pretty much the only highly rated Sonic game of the last 15 years... I think it's just a case of butthurt from Sonic Team.

Just won a Grand Prix in F-Zero 99. Didn't actually win any of the races, but making the top 10 every time gives you a chance. I just need to get better on Silence. Barely managed to get 7th place on that track, but that was enough to maintain my overall lead. Won by 8 points total. Hope they add the other eight tracks to this game soon.

dragon quest monsters the dark prince was the final game from the june direct I was waiting for a box art. Found it so that's added to the GTZ database now.

For the Sep direct, I am now waiting for box pics for Eiyuden 100 heroes and TTYD remake. All others are in the system I believe.

I think F-Zero 99 is real fun but Mario 35 was the best of all these battle royale time games. So goofy that they removed that.

I also miss Super Mario Bros. 35, it was the only one of the battle royal type games that I enjoyed and had the most realistic chance of a 1st place finish in, though I admit it did get old after a while just like the rest of them. I played the Tetris, Pac-man and Bomberman ones each for a couple of days before deleting them, but SMB 35 I got a few months of fun out of it at least.

I haven't even started F-Zero 99 yet, once I saw it was using the graphics of the SNES version I was less excited, because I assume that's the version they're basing it off of and that's the one I enjoyed the least (I pretty much only liked the N64 and GameCube versions).

I watched a streamer play it and saw some people in chat hoping they'd make a Star Fox 99 and/or Excitebike 99. I think we shouldn't just suggest that they give the battle royal treatment to all of their neglected franchises. As cool as this F-Zero might be to some (or Excitebike 99/Star Fox 99 could be), it isn't quite the same as if we had gotten an original entry in the series. Hopefully there will be a new one on the next console and they were just using this one as a way to introduce the series to a whole new generation of players.

I don't care for the SNES game either, but 99 doesn't really feel much like it. It's a lot faster and chaotic with all the players. I've been playing it a bit too much myself lol. I'm trying to stay on the leader board so I can earn the badge associated with it. If I'm not on there after the weekly standings, it will be the only time I attempt it. I've got other games I want to play haha. Already kinda forgot what I was doing in Tunic.

Does everybody else's eShop run at a snail's pace or just mine? Whenever I want to browse the selection, it loads so slowly and the pages have wildly noticeable hang-ups. This is pretty standard in my experience.

Basically you have to check for new interesting stuff every week or it goes down into the pit of lethargic eternity, never to be seen again unless called upon by name.

Yah it's rough. Happy to know it's not just my system crapping out though.

Anyhow, switching subjects: I got back to Red Dead Redemption finally. Pikmin 4 and a few other games(/real life) dragged me away from it for a bit. I just got past what I believe is the last Bonnie mission, at least for now...

...when the bandits try to hang her in exchange for their buddy...

...and did a few more missions with the group of fellas that John is apparently going to use to go after Bill. I still feel like I'm fairly early in the game's story, but what I've seen so far has been good, classic Western stuff.

However, I will say that there's one major issue I'm having with the game and it's not the game's fault at all. I just feel like I jipped myself out of a truly wonderful open-world experience with RDR. I imagine if I got RDR back when it was released, I would have spent hours upon hours exploring the open world and getting lost in every little extra thing. But having played RDR2 first and spending way too much time exploring THAT game's open-world, I find myself being wholly uninterested in exploring RDR's. Everything from the size, to the scope, to the graphics, to the interactivity and NPCs... it's all just so much better realized in RDR2 (for obvious reasons). So now when I play RDR, I really just want to experience the main characters and the story and never find myself going off the beaten path to just exist in the game world. In the couple instances where I did, I just found myself missing RDR2's exploration more than fully immersing myself in RDR's.

I can still definitely see why folks love the game and the story so far has been awesome, but it pretty much just amounts to a linear Western game for me. Which, again, isn't to say it's bad, it's just that I spoiled myself by playing the newer, bigger game first.

I can see where RDR2 took some of the luster out of RDR, but in my very biased opinion RDR is the better game overall. I could not stand the main story in RDR2, and the missions oftentimes were damn near rail shooters with how they forced your hand. I enjoy taking my time on missions, looting every body. You can do that more often than not in RDR. In RDR2 you pause to loot more than one or two and it's mission failed as some dumbass got killed. Rob a bank and the entire town is out front? Can't go out the back door. Slip out the side unscathed to your horse? Nope, that's a mission fail cause your gang just runs straight into gunfire. I would never want to play the main story of RDR2 again. I'm on my third play through of RDR. The world was great. I'd love to revisit it one day, but I would hate to have to play through it again just to unlock it.

Also, do the stranger missions, the black ? marks. Many of those are great mini-stories, I can think of 2 that imo are more memorable than anything in RDR2.

RDR2 is probably in my top 5 video game stories of all time, so ya won’t find me relating to your experience too hard haha. I didn’t mind the looting thing in RDR2 either - it just added a sense of realism/tension to each scenario in that one wouldn’t really have the time to loot a couple of bucks or gold watch from a body in the heat of a big ol’ mishap. Plus I sorta hate how 9/10 times, the camera angle switches when you loot a body in RDR, making the simple animation more of a tiny cutscene. Sorta hinders the flow to an extent.

As for the gang running into the heat like that, I sorta always just looked at it as blind loyalty to Dutch and his wild need to make a statement with anything he did. I suppose it is a little strange/unrealistic that nobody would ever just try to escape unscathed but I loved the gunfighting combat, so I didn’t mind being forced into it.

I’ll keep my eye out for the stranger missions. I have done a couple but I don’t know if I’m doing them right. I’ll achieve the goal but the question marks still appear where the mission began until I get close enough to them, then they disappear. Am I supposed to be able to return to the stranger to close out the mission or no?

Dutch, Arthur, and most of the rest are a big reason why I hated the story. Damn near every decision Dutch made was the wrong one. It got to the point when riding from A to B I'd constantly be trying to shoot the other gang members in the back of the head. And the shipwreck island part shouldn't have even been in the game. Arg! /rant

The ? is big at first so you see it on your map. When you get closer it becomes much smaller and moves to the person of interest, usually a press of the down "arrow on the d-pad" reveals it. A cut scene should signify you activated it and the person gives you a task. Some are multiple interactions with the same or different people. Also did you know you can switch which shoulder you look over while aiming? Right or left on the "d-pad" while aiming.

I was just watching a video of Horizon Chase 2 on the Switch, which released last week during the Nintendo Direct. They made it so if you want to race online the game requires you to make an Epic Games Account if you don't already have one. I don't like when games force you to make accounts for an outside service. I assume it has to do with the cross-platform multiplayer, but even Fall Guys leaves that optional and lets you only match up with other Switch players. But whatever, that's really not a deal breaker, I do have an EGS account anyway.

But it feels like they might have rushed this game to get it out in time for that Nintendo Direct. Not only are there some performance issues that hopefully can be fixed in a patch, but what also needs to be fixed in a patch is that the on-screen button icons are incorrect. For example it tells you to press the RB button to cycle between the maps you want to play on, but there is no RB button on Switch, that's an Xbox thing.

I just picked up the physical release of Pikmin 1 & 2 and fired up Pikmin 1 today. Sometimes it's easy to forget how much this series (and games in general) have improved in regards to controls and the user interface. I keep fighting with the controls and zooming in and out. You can't select the necessary Pikmin. And controlling large groups of Pikmin usually results in unnecessary deaths. I lost 20 Pikmin in the water trying to cross a bridge. Playing this after Pikmin 4 is painful.

Speaking of Pikmin, did you guys see the headlines "Miyamoto wonders why the Pikmin games don't sell more" over the summer leading up to Pikmin 4's release? To me the audience is just small. It's too complex for young kids, and too flowery/laid back looking for older kids. So that leaves a niche market that enjoys it, and a large market who won't give the demo more than 1 day (in game) to get hooked if they even download it.

If they want more buzz, they should make it a free weekend game with Online sub.

With me finally starting over and giving DQV remake a go again, I'm in the DQ mood so I got Dragon Quest Treasures sealed for $27.50 shipped from an ebay seller. There is a demo for Dark Prince, but I'm just going to wait til it come sout. Not as interested in Infinity Strash but I'll watch some reviews. It seems more geared toward the elden ring style difficult parry/dodge type of action which I don't like.

Oh pretty neat. I imagine it'll just be a port for the current system if it's already getting rated, but I honestly don't know how that stuff works. To be honest, I already have it on PS4, so if I really need to play it in mega ultra HD or whatever, I'll just do it there. If they can get it to run on Switch, even if it performs/looks like the RDR1 port, I'll probably snag it just to have it handheld. But yah, I'd need to wait for reviews to make sure it's not just a lazy port to capitalize on the current hype RDR suddenly has again.

On a somewhat related note, I bit the bullet and snagged the GTA Trilogy for Switch -- for significantly less than full price of course, used from eBay (still shouldn't be spending the money but whatev). Got it mainly for the lady but obviously I've been playing it more haha. So far so good though, I don't really feel like it's as bad as folks were making it out to be when it first dropped. Just another case of "it's cool to have handheld" so I'm fine giving it certain allowances performance-wise. I do think the patch that released for it fixed a lot of things. Only played a bit of Vice City so far though, as that's the only one I'm super interested in revisiting (my favorite GTA next to V). But again, it's cool to have the other two on handheld if I ever get the itch.

Yeah I heard they've patched a lot of the problems people were experiencing at launch in the GTA Trilogy. I might pick it up myself if it's on sale during Black Friday or something.

As for RDR2, not sure how legit it is because I read it on Discord and didn't look further into it, but it seems like RDR2 will be a real port and not just a cloud version, because apparently Brazil doesn't rate cloud versions of games because there are no cloud servers hosted there.

I dumped my Switch earlier in the year because I was tired of the rehashed junk and didnt see anything coming that interested me. Now Wonder has slapped the mess out of me and forced me to GS yesterday to preorder the game and a Switch/Mario Kart bundle coming out 10/6. I have always really enjoyed the main line Mario games but the 2D ones (old and new) have always been more enjoyable for me. The Badges in this game almost make it like a Metroidvania type of game. Man if they would give Mario a full on Metroidvania title that would be awesome.

Pretty pumped for this little late game Mario push coming to Switch. Wonder, Thousand Year Door, RPG, Peach. Fun time to be a Mario fan.

Other than spin-off/sports games, I think the only Mario games I don't have for the Switch are whichever NSMB game they rereleased for it and the second Mario+Rabbids game. I plan on snagging them both at some point but they aren't a priority. I also only have Bowser's Fury digitally and am kicking myself for not just getting it physical.

Also, re: GTA on Switch.

I still feel it's definitely worth owning to have these games so easily accessible, but man, part of me feels like I should have left Vice City in the past. I still love the atmosphere and the overall vibe of the game -- the 80s Miami-inspired setting and all the neon lights that come with it. Still awesome. But what once felt like a huge, endlessly explorable world now feels VERY limited, especially after having played through GTA V like 3 times. It's a little heartbreaking to see how small this game is when it felt like such a huge undertaking back in the day through the eyes of a 90s (early 2000s) kid. And then of course there's the gameplay itself, which is obviously just not nearly as polished as it is these days. Shooting and whatnot doesn't have the weight it does in later installments and just feels sorta hollow.

Unlike RDR, where I definitely feel its age when compared to RDR2 but still find it vast and engaging, Vice City feels like a Gameboy game compared to where the series eventually got with IV and V. A game that's fun to play in real short bursts, but put back down before you really feel disappointed by how you don't get the same satisfaction from it as you used to. Oh well, I still love the game, it's just different nowadays for obvious reasons. I figure if I just get past the early portions and keep pushing through, I'll get reacclimated enough to look past its age and just enjoy it for what it is.

Related: Got past the Fort Mercer bit in RDR before GTA arrived. I'm definitely starting to get used to that game's age too and enjoying it on its own merits. I was surprised to learn that Fort Mercer is already like 30% through the story, so I figure I'll be wrapping the main game up sooner than later.

Interesting! Mario Metroidvania? I'll call it Mariovania.

While intriguing, I think for me that would take away from the Mario experience. Would make it more like Metroid. Though the idea is very interesting, and not bad at all. I wonder if there have been fan made Mariovania games.
