it is, lazy. That's why there's no Xbox version since it's just a port with nothing fixed/improved in any way

It’s a pretty old game. Remaster would be nice. But there is a commercially viable new audience out there.

If there's anything GTA5, Skyrim, and half of the Switch's first party library have taught us, it's that people like buying the same game again and again.

No incentive since GTA online and porting games will sell just as fast

They must know enough people will buy it and that's why it's at least getting a physical release, and not just a low effort digital only re-release like with Bully.

Rockstar has no need to rush moving on from GTA 5:

As of June 2023, the game has shipped over 185 million copies worldwide across all platforms; more copies were sold in 2020 than any other year since the game's launch in 2013.

At least with the switch, I can say it's the "first time the game is officially portable" and that's big for me as a portable game lover. But I'm not getting RDR.

Pass on RDR. Even when it hits $20. It's one of my favorite games of all time, but I can't bring myself to support crap like this.

Atlas Fallen anyone getting it. Seems like a decent 25 hour hack and slash open world game.

One thing I'll say bout RDR having played a bit of the first and not playing the second much. The first one had a much cooler main character and main love interest. I actually intend to play all of it some day. Be it on Xbox 360 or Switch, whatever.

Fudge all you cheapskates that think older games should be less expensive.

Soon you’ll likely be paying by the play session / viewing session for entertainment. Like how you pay for every meal you eat at McDonald’s. Good ole capitalism.

My main experience with this game is mostly from the Nintendo 64 port, and it turns out that is included as a bonus in this remaster as well. I think I'll buy it just for that, and Quake 1 remaster is on sale for like $3 so I'll get that too.

Yea i read that about 64 version being included although I’m not sure I fully understand it lol, is it different in any specific way (other than not being upscaled)?

I bought Quake 1 remaster and loved it even though I only played the expansions and a bit of online, didn’t feel like redoing the original campaign. It was like 5 bucks on sale when I got it, plenty of value

i’ve gone through a bunch of those retro FPS games over the past year or so,
Doom was kinda hard to get into at first because even compared to Quake it felt so old lol without jump or aim, but after a bit it was fine. Did several of those fanmade and semi-official expansion packs or mission packs or whatever, they were fun.
i like having a game like that to play alongside a more modern one, for quick sessions

Tried Serious Sam recently and that seems to scratch the same itch
Ion Fury was great too

I didn't find out until years later, but the N64 port of Quake 2 is almost a different game than the PC version. Very different level layouts and stuff. PS1 also had different levels than either version but I never played that one.

The Quake 2 remaster has a lot in it for $10. But I'm with Bill that I have a real hard time enjoying these games at this point. I can do it for one sitting the first night but never end up going back.

The videos I've seen look really good though and if I had fonder memories about Q2 or can enjoy retro stuff more I would jump in again. But even with an XSS next to my PS5 on the shelf I don't want to bother with it being "free" on GP.

I think I’m in the minority who enjoyed Quake 4 the most out of all the Quakes but I think that’s cause I had it on the 360 and it was my first Quake game I ever finished.

Oh cool i had no idea. I’ll probably play that too then, i only ever played pc version

Hope Quake 4 gets a remaster/port to consoles, never got to play that one.

My first quake was the original, and the modding community did some cool things with it. My favorite mod was quake rally which turned it into a racing game.

I remember when Wolfenstein 3D came out and how amazed we were that it was possible. I think it was the original first person shooter. Doom then Quake were just refinements on that basic formula.

I had been a fan of the original Castle Wolfenstein games in the 80s, which are nothing like a FPS. But, they were cool games where you had to escape from a nazi castle by using disguises and such. I wish someone would remake those games in some modern way that is awesome.

That reminds me of Duke Nukem: The Manhattan Project.

After Duke Nukem 3D became the hot thing, I was disappointed because I really enjoyed the 2D platformer-shooter gameplay of Duke Nukum and Duke Nukem 2.

But then they released Manhattan Project and it was a"2.5D" blast

Wolfenstein and Doom were good. After that it got stale quick. Doom 2 was a let down felt like DLC, quake, Hexen, Thief all rote. At that point consoles were jumping ahead with stuff like SM64 OoT etc.

I do remember being blown away by Descent. That felt like the first truly great full 3D shooter. There was Warhawk on ps with a great sense of space and air combat too. But 3D moved fast after the fps craze.

I started up New Game+ in GOW (2018) and man, it's just such a damn good game. On PS5 it looks and runs really great, and I don't know if it has true 3D audio but with the sony headset it's direction for sure and sounds fantastic. Honestly this might be my #1 game of all time. I absolutely love everything about this (except for the optional fog section late in the game).

So far I've noticed that NG+ adds some new collectibles, equipment, new materials to upgrade said equipment, and remixes some enemies. And you can skip cutscenes.

I think developers dont know what to do with the dualsense, or maybe they just dont care. Havent played a game that uses it in an interesting fashion except for Astros. Usually the just throw in a little "rumble" as a check-in-the-box or do something crapty with the triggers.

I.e. I just bought Everspace 2 (released yesterday) and it just hardens the L2 button (acceleration).

It can work decently well when implemented in racing games, but other than having a slightly more lifelike feel if you are using one for braking it won't do much.

I still wish they had just stuck with the design of the ps3 controller. And not added the dumb touch pad or replaced select and start with share and option and put them so close to the d pad and buttons that they are easy to hit on accident (which happened a number of times during the Street Fighter 6 tournament at Akaicon)

Making the trigger harder to press is just not helpful, in my opinion. Also, the clicking thing that can happen... noisy.
