Anyhow, I'm back on a Pikmin 4 kick. I needed a game to play while I listened to music the other day, and since I want to be able to hear the dialogue of RDR, I decided to continue my Pikmin 4 play through instead. Now I'm re-addicted and will probably finish it before getting heavily back into RDR. I dig having two vastly different games to switch between depending on my mood.

Then it's back to RDR2 on PS4 to finish my replay of that, and maybe I'll give Yes Your Grace more of a go. YYG is a fairly fun game but if you lose, you either need to start over or load a save from a previous "day" to start from. Either way is sort of obnoxious, because you have to go through all the same dialogues again, so it can be a fairly boring process if you JUST went through it.

Aside from those, I may finally finish Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I didn't love it as much as other folks did and found it to be way too easy, so I lost interest fairly soon after buying it. I do hear it gets more difficult as the game goes, and I'm itching for a 3D platformer to play, so I'll probably force myself to continue. It's not BAD by any means, just didn't hold my attention the first time, so maybe I'll be in more of the mood for it now.

Hopefully all that keeps me busy until Super Mario Wonder in October. The longer I wait for that game, the more pumped I get for it. Cannot wait.

Right? I've never understood how much attention this guy gets from fans. I mean, he seems like a nice person, which is great, but I don't think his contribution to Mario games has really been that significant.

He's not just the voice of Mario you know.

I am mourning the death of Waluigi.

There were rumors that he was not reprising his role in SMB Wonder since the voice in the trailer really didn't sound like him. I don't get the love either. I'm sure it will be fine.

I saw a poster of all the playable characters in Smash Bros. At the very end is a picture of Waluigi with a 🚫 over him. Sad.

Let's say Waluigi got his own game, what would it even be?

Can't be a platformer, that's taken. Can't be him searching a mansion for ghosts. What would it be?

I did see a fan made spinoff trailer of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga: Wario & Waluigi Supervillain Saga.

https://youtu.be/7yWHSKViA7M

That move that Wario does at about 2:05 is funny. Reference to Warioware?

Gamewise, It seems that waluigi has been left in the dark. At least he's playable in Kart and Party.

Stealth Action
Fashion Simulator
Point and Click Adventure
Cooking Game
Space Shooter
Katamari Waluigi
Psychological Horror
Dating Sim (see also Psychological Horror)
Endless Runner
Floppy Physics Game

In all seriousness, I would like to see a game called "Too Bad! Waluigi Time!"

The main crux of the game could be Waluigi inviting himself into other Nintendo IPs and making a mess out of them.

The opposite of Kingdom Hearts basically

laughing out loud

I could picture him as a main character in a stealth action game. Also as a cook who's flipping burgers.

Nintendo's gotta give waluigi his own game eventually, right?

I actually just watched this video a few days ago where they translated old articles of interviews from Japanese Nintendo gaming magazines in the late 90s. "Waluigi was created to basically annoy players and get them fired up for matches in Mario Tennis." I don't think Nintendo expected anyone to actually want to play as him, you're supposed to want to kick his ass. They talk about it a bit at 22:30 in this video. They were going to make girlfriends for Waluigi and Wario but Miyamoto shot it down.

Wouldn't that be true of Wario as well though? We've been able to play as Wario for a long time. He was the villain in SML2 and then boom, they follow it up with a sequel where he's the main character! Makes no sense.

The most annoying characters Nintendo makes are not the villains, they are sidekicks for the hero.

I think the world is ready for a new Excitebike. Make it like the N64 version though, that's the only one I really liked. The last one on WiiWare that went back to 2D got boring so quick. Keep the track creator and let us share them online.

We'll likely never get another ExciteTruck or ExciteBots and I'm still a little bummed about that, but I'd be surprised if most people even remember those games. No need to kill off the Excite brand completely.

^^ Absolutely. Excitebike 64 is one of the gems of N64. A bit difficult at first. But once you nail the control, the physics feel so awesome. We need another one with the same dedication to nailing the same type of difficult to master but fun physics.

I finally sat down and completed Excite Truck last year. One of only two games (I think) that use the Wii's custom soundtrack feature.

I might have had way too much Daytona USA music on my SD card

I've actually never played Excitebike 64 myself, so looking forward to trying it. I think this leaves Mario Party 3 as the only previously announced N64 game to not hit the service yet.

So with the rumors of a Switch successor coming next year, do we think Mario Party 3 is the last game they release for N64 on NSO?

Loving RDR2010 on Switch. Had a funny glitch where an NPC was sitting backwards on a bench, then stood up into a wall and got stuck. Likely could've happened in the original release as the game has played solid otherwise. Still holding up. Such great storytelling. Sadly getting close to Mexico which imo gets to be a bit of a drag.

It's fine. Controls well, good writing and lovely animation, but I think Rayman Origins and Legends are far better games.

My copy of Illusion Island is available if anyone is interested.

Nice! Me and my kids are so excited for that game. I'm kind of hesitant about watching a 15 minute video of it though. 2D Mario games aren't super long to begin with, so I'd rather not see too much of it ahead of time and instead, be surprised when I actually play it. However, I can't help but wonder (pun intended)...since they're clearly breaking free from the NSMB formula, what else will be different? They seem to be hyping this one up more than they ever did for any of the NSMB games. Maybe we're about to get a much longer/feature-packed 2D Mario game than what we're used to? I would love for that to be the case!

I hope so too. ESRB's rating of the game does mention it having "in-game purchases" so it's possible that could mean future DLC worlds are planned.

I'd say temper expectations or prepare for disappointment.

If it means any, NSLB was DLC for NSMBU.

Reminder for those who do watch, spoiler tags beyond generic impressions. (I plan on watching)

When Nintendo first announced their Switch Online Plus Expansion Pak with the Animal Crossing DLC, a lot of people were laughing, saying there's no way that a handful of genesis and n64 games and one DLC were worth the price (and then bought it anyway as Nintendo fans do).

At the time I said to be patient because it felt like that would only be the start. I felt vindicated when they added the Mario Kart packs, but kinda was soured when some other high profile DLCs were omitted like Xenoblade and Fire Emblem.

So yeah, my expectations for Wonder's DLC are pretty low. I just hope we get something that feels like a whole game without the DLC.

I'd expect about a much content as NSMBU minus the Luigi DLC. I don't see Wonder blowing the doors off typical 2-d Mario content, especially considering it looks like there are many new game elements.

And rather than have DLC for Wonder, I'd much rather they add Wonder DLC to Mario Maker 2. There are still amazing new levels, even some worlds being generated in that game.

Wonder looks like a real trip, I'm still pumped for it. All the neat little additions to classic Mario gameplay is welcome for sure. The only thing I'm not super jazzed about is that all the characters play exactly the same - would have been nice to see Luigi get a longer jump or Peach be able to float, etc. I also wish Yoshi wasn't the game's "easy mode" as I enjoy his flutter jump, but not taking damage unless he falls into a pit ensures I never use him unfortunately.

Otherwise, everything else looked pretty awesome.

I hope they add challenge (hard mode? beat the level using x & y or under so much time) modes because all the new characters, power-ups and features make this game look like it will be competing for the easiest (mainline) 2d Mario competing with NSMB2. Also I hope like hell you can turn off the stupid helper scattered throughtout the game. Got some serious Navi vibes there. (Hey, listen!) "I WonDeR hOw YoU gEt OvEr ThEre?" Lastly it looks a bit smaller than NSMBU, but I'm guessing there will be more to unlock so likely a non-issue.

On a plus side it looks fun (even if it is easy). Lots of options. Should be great for the kids. The short challenges change it up even if they borrow from past Mario and other games. Will be interesting to see, but seeing new enemies and abilities this game needs added (in limited fashion) to Maker 2. Mario Maker 3 (well, 2 Dx anyhow) incoming to Switch 2.

From IGN: "We played an hour of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Nintendo's upcoming new 2D Mario game, and were left so impressed – with both the single-player and multiplayer – that it seemed like Nintendo could've gotten away with calling this Super Mario Bros. 4"

I won't spoil their fun by telling them that technically in Japan Super Mario World is Super Mario Bros. 4.
I liked what I saw from today's Nintendo Direct overall. Still disappointed in the lack of true online co-op. but I'll still be there day one. I really hope the rumors are true about the later levels being very difficult because what was shown today looked like most of it could've been early in the game.

I actually thought NSMBU was good enough to be considered among the All Star line-up. Good to hear positive impressions on Wonder.

It looks like the wonder flower activates a harder section of the level.

Hopefully they do ramp up the difficulty without sacrificing the ability for the kiddos to do it on their own. I think that will be possible, will have to wait and see if they did it.

Watched DGR's reaction video. You can see in the facial expressions a lot of joy and disappointment.

Re-watching it it reminds me of what I saw of Galaxy before release. A lot of new ideas in a similar format (2d this time around... not referring to gravity). At that point the Mario franchise was pretty much dead to me. I played the demo of Galaxy at a Gamestop and was like they may have something here. Turned out to be by far my favorite 3d Mario at the time, and reinvigorated my interest in the series.
