That is a mini boss. You'll fight a lot of those. Its not a full boss unless you get a memory to flay after with a remembrance item. And they start with a cutscene.
I think you can also summon an NPC at every major boss as well. And you can not at a mini.

15-Oct-2023(#84)So I played some. I definitely like it better than Lies of P, but enemies aggro way too easily and never give up chasing you. Pretty annoying. You also can't get hit climbing ladders. Parry window is way better than Lies. Blocking mechanic is interesting. But so far the main gripe is enemy aggro. You can not get anywhere near some enemies and somehow they know where you are.

The permanent checkpoints are pretty far apart. You can use an item- expensive to buy and uncommon to find- that’s lets you set a single temporary bonfire. It adds to the risk reward and there a ton of nodes you can place them at- but often you walk around the corner and find a shortcut to the actual safe haven. It’s a pretty cool mechanic later on.

Oofff, 330? Ha, I called it at 1 and I'm already hating myself this morning. I hate that I can't stay up late and play as easily as I used to. Getting old sucks.

16-Oct-2023(#94)I messed around the save spot last night with the red eyed sword dude near a ladder.

It does, but I barely noticed on PS5 to be honest. Because on the X it slowed to a crawl during that fight. So the dips I was seeing now I hardly noticed, lol. Same with when I got back to the swamp. It dipped, but then I chuckeled when I noticed. Because at least it wasn't 2fps.

16-Oct-2023(#97)Yeah, I'm definitely noticing it but maybe when I go back I'll level up a bit. Got close a couple of times too. Trying to parry kill for the most part.

Agreed it feels off. Where you had to jump between those spinning platforms wherever the hell it is, I found myself missing the jump a few too many times but it was more than likely just me being stupid.

You are not supposed to go there yet. That is a very late game area. But you can run around and grab some loot, like I did. Just run past everyone and don't fight anyone.

Nice. Way farther than me. I just fought the big mouth progeny boss last night. I think I'm at the mid point.

Summon that NPC dude, he will soak up a lot of the early agro which will save your healing items for later in the fight. She targets him first every time. She will kill him also, because NPC summons in this game are not like DS where they tank bosses for you. He has low health. I also found blocking/parrying with her is very helpful when she goes into the chain moves. Then a few quick replies to bring the health back, and then back away and wait for her to setup again. She is a poor mans Malenia.

I'm loving it. Figured I'd do that for the first run/ending. And its been destroying everything. Seems most everything so far is weak to radiance and strong against inferno. Umbral also seems pretty good. But you have to build specifically for it, as it requires both radiance and inferno to be equal at all times. Kind of like hexes in DS2.
There is one respec item you can get from the umbral vendor in skybridge (hub) for 8K vigor. But its the only one you can get for some time. So if you use it, make sure its what you want to respec to.
