That's the only 3D Mario title I haven't been able to finish. The camera just sucks, and it wasn't as easy to overlook it and just deal with it because it wasn't this genre defining experience like Super Mario 64 was a few years prior.
Still a toss up between Sunshine and Galaxy for my favorite 3D Mario. Love Sunshine. I never had an issue with the camera but I see enough folks criticize it so I know it’s an issue. I’ve just never noticed it personally.
Loved Sunshine on GCN. Replayed whenever it was recently released and it felt like a turd, but manageable.
Really hoping Wonder is awesome. My 6 year old just finished Odyssey and 3d world. Hoping to play Wonder with him, but think it's time for him to go work on Mario World.

I'm so paranoid about something like this happening, so I always take my time when saving. Also, I try to make extra saves along the way in case I need to revert back without having to start all the way over.

I actually liked it for Link's Awakening, I think it worked well for that game. However, a lot of people have been saying they want the Oracle games to be remade in the same way, and I'm firmly against that. The Oracle games are a bit more serious and darker, I don't think the style they used for the LA remake fits them at all.

> Did you play both? I played one of them, Ages I think, but not Seasons. Wondering

It's very much worth playing both of them. A lot of people seem to think they're basically the same game, but with minor differences (kinda like Pokemon) but that is not the case at all. They are completely different, but each one is still a full Zelda game on it's own. Ages revolves around a time travel gimmick, while Seasons uses a mechanic that lets you change the season, which alters the landscape. On top of that, if you beat one of them, it will give you a code. If you enter that code when you start a playthrough of the OTHER game, you will start what is referred to as a "linked game". There are some story elements that carry over, and then when you beat the second game, there's some really cool bonus content at the end, that can only be experienced after beating a linked game.

When I replayed SM64 on 3D All-Stars, I felt like the controls were much better. Do you think the same is true for Sunshine? The camera definitely sucks in both games, but it's more the controls that bother me, especially in Sunshine.

I think we are so used to dual analog sticks now, or at least not a single stick in the middle (think about how awkward the N64 controller is nowadays), that playing it a modern controller feels better.
My assumption was the the GCN controller was great for Sunshine at the time and still better than Switch controls. But I'm also obviously older now than back then and understand controls better. Sunshine has the worst camera AND controls IMO of the 3 games.
I did beat all 3 games on 3D All-Stars when it came out.

As someone who has always disliked Mario 64 (it was literally the death of the franchise as "iconic" to me until Galaxy), how is the 64 camera better than Sunshine? Imo sunshine was marginally better, with the sections without FLOOD being fantastic. (Mario Galaxy anyone?)

I'm totally with you, although we are in the minority. Sunshine is difficult to play now, but I never liked Mario 64. The FLOODless levels were definitely the best part of Sunshine. Galaxy was great though. The most incredible part was how they were still introducing new mechanics even towards the end of the game.
Sunshine was difficult for my on the switch. But I think playing on the original gamecube controller makes it a bit easier. That thick controller is so easy to grip and somehow makes it a bit easier to play.

SM64 at least gave you the option to toggle between the Lakitu cam and the Mario cam. It also didn’t let the camera get in a position where you couldn’t see Mario anymore. In Sunshine, there were plenty of times where the camera got in a position that I could even see where Mario was anymore.
Reports are switch successor will be in second half of 2024. Based on this leak/rumor I wouldn't expect much more than a more powerful Switch 2, which is what I've expected all along.
Really hope they do BC. Damn the third parties. They need to make better games.
It would be immensely disappointing. Knowing N, I'm guessing they'd find a way to make you pay per game for BC by utilizing a new feature of the new system.
Wii to WiiU we paid few bucks for the WiiU upgrade, so in that vein. Switch games emulated “work” but if you want them optimized for the Switch 2 hardware then you have to pay to upgrade and it will only be as they choose. Some games will never make the transfer etc
I think many of us feel that Nintendo should double-down in the handheld department and do a Switch 2, but knowing them they may go in an entirely different direction again. If they just released a more powerful Switch, with BC, it would be unstoppable. But I don't have a lot of confidence they'll do that.
> You'd have to buy games all over again. Nintendo loves to make people buy games all
> over again. And again. And again.
This is true in some ways. But, in terms of BC, Nintendo has actually been pretty good about offering it for a while now. Wii played GC games, Wii U played Wii games, 3DS played DS games. Provided they do stick with the Switch form factor (which I think they're incredibly likely to do), I'd say there's a very solid chance they will make it BC.
> I think many of us feel that Nintendo should double-down in the handheld department

> But I don't have a lot of confidence they'll do that.
This is definitely a possibility. But, with how wildly successful the Switch has been, largely due to it's hybrid nature, I think they would be crazy to not stick with it for at least 1 more gen.
I don't know much about game development, gaming hardware, etc. How feasible would it be for Nintendo to design the next Switch in such a way that when you're docked, there's more processing power so that you can play with better graphics, faster load times, etc, but then the same games could also be played in handheld mode but at a lower level of performance? Is a dock like that even possible? Would the burden fall on developers to design their games in such a way that they could operate in either mode, and would that be particularly difficult?
Sure it's doable (think of it like the reverse of an add-on like the Sega CD or 32X, or those Game Boy games with enhancements under Super Game Boy or GBC/GBA hardware).
There are a few developers that already provide slightly different optimization for handheld vs docked on the current switch (Grid Autosport is one game that does this).
But it's more cost efficient for developers to optimize for one setup rather than two. Which is why you see some people whining about PS4 and Xbox One ports holding the PS5 and XSX versions back. Because they need to make sure the low end version isn't too far removed from the high end version or people will complain about that too.
What about Switch 2 n Switch 2 Pro right off the bat. Like Xbox n Playstation both released 2 systems to hit different price points. Pro….Oled, Bigger Screen, more memory etc
> What about Switch 2 n Switch 2 Pro right off the bat. Like Xbox n Playstation both

Sony did it smart with PS5 though. The digital only system is $100 cheaper, but spec-wise it's exactly the same, so you're still getting the same experience either way. If Nintendo made a cheaper model that was digital only and lacked OLED but still had the same specs, I'd be all for it. Having lesser specs would suck, because you know Nintendo doesn't exactly push the envelope on hardware to begin with.
I think Switch 2.0 would have BC tho since Wii U did for Wii games. I think it all depends on how popular the previous system is. Even GameCube games were playable on the Wii. The Wii U was just a weird system for Ninty so I understand why a lot of its games were ported to Switch.
Could they do something entirely different? Like a VR system? That would be my dream. But Nintendo has a history of at least trying to stick with something when it works. DS was the most successful handheld of all time at that time, so they just did a continuation, 3DS. Wii was incredibly successful, so they did WiiU.
I feel very confident they will stick with the Switch name and features. Just call it Switch 2 and change the size/materials/colors just enough so people know for sure, it's a new system. and not a WiiU type failure. I'd love to see some sort of cool looking brushed metal or something fancy looking like that.
After 5 months of maintenance, the online servers for Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 are up and running again on Wii U. Just for the heck of it I booted up MK8 and was instantly put in a 9 player lobby, so for whatever reason people are still playing it. Previously the last time I had played it to see how active it is was back in 2020 and it had around this same amount of people in the lobbies.
Could anyone give me a little info on the Danganronpa Decadence edition on Switch? I honestly know nothing about this series except seeing the name bounced around from time to time. My daughter played Omori and loved it, now she's playing Your Turn to Die through VGPerson.com, she wants more games like this with the caveat that she wants to play them on Switch. I looked this up and got Danganronpa. Will the Danganronpa Decadence edition on switch satisfy someone who likes Your Turn to Die, visual novel mix with puzzles mix with other activities from time to time? Is there a better / cheaper option that's also physical edition for Switch, or is that it? Appreciate any info

Danganronpa is a good pick, I think. It's mostly VN/puzzle, like you stated, with a bit of sim, and with later ones, a bit of action mixed in. Personally, I think the first one is the best; some of the logic in later ones can occasionally feel loose.
Another physical option to consider would be Ace Attorney, but for physical, you'll need an Asian English release.
Hell yes! Now my top 3 games of all time are on Switch, and I no longer need to hold onto my PS3 stuff! Physical coming October 13 though, a week before Wonder. X-[
It's a 13 year old game that has a physical option. It's probably going to be like LA Noire already on Switch which required a stupidly large download.
I am one Dandori Battle platinum away from 100% on Pikmin 4. I have a gold medal on the final battle. I can easily say right now that Pikmin 4 is my favorite Pikmin ever. I will probably replay Olimar's story to get a better time (I did it in 1 the days) and I might try for better scores on my Dandori Challenges even though I already have Plats. I'll probably play the whole game over again at some point, maybe try to cut down my amount of days. I ended up over 50 by the end.
This game needs DLC. I want more Dandori Challenges and Battles. I need more Pikmin. I hope it sells well enough to convince them to make another one before 2033.

Wow. Completionisting Pikmin 4. Was it difficult to get/do everything?
I haven't played any of the Pikmin games, so I don't know what it requires to fully beat. Some games are more difficult than others to 100%. Is Pikmin one of those?
Eh, it just feels like the right way to play it for me. Getting Plats on everything was difficult (and completely unnecessary), but it was fun. You could easily beat the game in 15-20 hours (I'm sure people will go much faster on multiple plays, but I took my time (50 hours).
RDR is the only game that I don't "get". Usually if I don't enjoy a game, I can at least see why others enjoy it. RDR just felt completely empty and soulless. Even my dad, who is a massive old western fan, found it boring. I liked the main character, and the ending was ok, but everything in between just felt like a chore to me. I've thought about giving RDR 2 a chance because of the hype, but I don't want to commit to another game I won't enjoy.
> RDR is the only game that I don't "get". Usually if I don't enjoy a game, I can

Red Dead Redemption is a top 3 game all time for me. Classic westerns is my favorite genre of TV and movies. RDR's story was steller imo, and (John's) ending was one my all time game endings. It told the transition from the wild west to the then modern era very well, and frankly is the best way to experience the old hollywood version of the old west. The characters were memorable, and largely voice acted well. The world was huge and had a lot to do similarly to the GTA games of the time. I've beaten it twice, and looking forward to #3.
On the other hand I loathed the story in RDR2. Many characters were awful. The story didn't make any sense many times, and the main character was completely forgettable. The main story missions often times felt like a rail shooter. Deviate from the prescribed path and you fail. Go too slow and you fail. They sacrificed what was great about the first game to push their story which was pretty awful. The world was pretty amazing though, and fun to play around in outside the story. Just my opinion, not facts.
I had an inexplicable desire today to play Zelda Oracle of Seasons. Suddenly sometime in the morning I really felt like playing it. So I guess I'm starting it. Been wanting to for Ages.
Pikmin 4 can be bought at Walmart for $42 + tax. It's on sale for $52, and if your account has never used the code WOWFRESH that will take off an additional $10. It was $44 for me after tax with free store pick up later today.
Miitopia has more advanced Mii-making tools than the previous Mii Makers, so given enough time and desire to troll your friends, you can make dang near anything. I haven't played much of the Switch port because I beat the 3DS version twice over already. I didn't do anything fancy with my original Miitopia run, just made Takenobu Mitsuyoshi a party member upon unlocking the Pop Star class, because it made perfect sense. Will I be doing that again? Absolutely.
It's not the deepest RPG out there; it's very silly because you are rescuing faces and fighting ridiculous monsters (the most infamous example is the Twerkey, a monster turkey with a big butt). Instead of getting party members via StreetPass, you pull them from your Mii Maker. You can customize the Miis for your party, some of the townspeople and NPCs, and even the Dark Lord. The Mii tools allow for more variety than the 3DS/Wii U Mii Maker, and it's possible to make your Miis even more absurd.
Here are some highlights from my Miiventure: image image image
Snagged “Yes, Your Grace” off the eshop because it’s only $3 right now and I had that exact amount of credits from a past purchase. I remember being intrigued by the game during one of the recent Nintendo Directs and I love little quirky “choices matter” games like this, so I’m looking forward to starting it up tonight.
Yoku's Island Express is on sale for $4 and is a fun little pinball-metroidvania game if you haven't tried it before. Works really well for portable play and short bursts.

I can't believe I never heard of that one. After your suggestion, I watched a video review of it. It looks like a wonderful game. I'm going to download it right now. Thanks for the suggestion!
I don't know why I'm writing in a series of short sentences. I've gotta stop. Oh no, I did it again!
>> This guy is a few hours in and says Red Dead Redemption runs fine and is as advertised

> Good to know, not gonna buy it at $50, can wait till its $20-30
I definitely agree the price is high ($30 would've been good imo), but if given the choice of a straight port of RDR1 or RDR2 running on Switch fine for $50 I'd take RDR1 all day long. That's how big of a fan I am.
First impressions of RDR having only played RDR2 (and being in the middle of a replay of RDR2 that I literally picked back up this past weekend):
Played about 20-30 minutes tonight. Having RDR2 so fresh in mind does make it a little weird to be playing what is essentially a “sequel”, just stripped down a bit due to the limitations of 2010, but that’s really the only critical thing I can say. It still feels like a newer game, especially compared to the recent GTA ports, even if the graphics & mechanics are obviously “less than” RDR2. That said, I’m honestly pleasantly surprised with how good the game looks, even when playing handheld. Again, obviously not up to RDR2 standards but honestly not too far off at all. And like reviews have said, it plays perfectly fine.
What I’m most excited for is the story, as that’s pretty much the entire reason I wanted to play this game. I loved RDR2s story so much and even after only seeing the very first true cut scene of RDR, I’m already intrigued as to what’s in store for any “returning” characters between the two games. It certainly hits the ground running in that regard. Just from the little bit I saw, it helps make RDR2 even more impressive with how they integrated existing characters into that game’s narrative. At least one character who seemed like a bit player in RDR2 has already proven to have developed into something more, and I appreciate that sort of connective tissue.
I’d obviously have rather NOT had to shell out $50 for the game, but I’d honestly rather not have to shell out any money… just in general really haha. I guess the game is worth just as much as one wants to play it. For someone who never played it and wants more from RDR2’s world, I feel mostly justified in my purchase knowing that the story is going to be strong, that the gameplay is going to be solid, and that the setting is still impressive in scope even for an older game. I can understand why some veterans of the game may be disappointed by the price, but I personally have no real reason to be. If it was worth the price in 2010 (and apparently it was), I feel like it’ll end up being worth the price in 2023 for anyone who hasn’t played it yet.
My kid got an eshop GC for his b-day so I picked it up as well. Damn it looks good for a 10+ year old game. It really makes me happy having this on Switch. Switch may very well be my favorite gaming system of all time. This might have finally pushed it over SNES. Portable Red Dead Redemption...
He doesn't have an account so he can't use e-shop money. I bought him a physical copy of Pokémon Arceus to replace the gift card.
> What I’m most excited for is the story, as that’s pretty much the entire reason

The story is really amazing and I played this game on my XSX after having played RDR2 and so it basically is a nice continuation that I didn't know what was going to happen. It holds up really really well and is a legit extension of the story for sure, I'd love an RDR3 that comes after both honeslty.

It might be my favorite story in any game, but I love westerns. I don't see a sequel set after the first one though.
The whole theme is the end of the old west, and you as John play a critical role in it. The ending of RDR put a stamp on the story, and literally gave me chills. It was so good.
Playing a bit further and I found a couple rough patches in the game:
-Random events disappear too quick. I’ll be riding along and hear someone beckon me from the side of the road or a gun fight take place, and even though I’ll attempt to turn and get back to them immediately, the event will be gone if I stray just barely too far on the map. -The horse physics when you go over a hill while riding fast is pretty wild. You just shoot straight into the air like you’re playing a Tony Hawk game haha
Obviously nothing that comes even near to a game breaker for me, just some small nitpicks I’m happy to see they improved upon by the time RDR2 came out.
Playing the RDR1 missions reaffirmed what I hated about playing the main story in RDR2. It's so nice to be able to pause mid-gunfight, recoup health or loot bodies without the fear of failing a mission because your possie is dumb as hell and got themselves killed.
Also I finally somewhat figured out how to play horseshoes. Even got a ringer!
Good for him, still getting that big N paycheck regardless. I appreciate the voice work he's done. That said, I'm willing to bet that we all know no less than 5 people in our own lives who can do a spot on Mario impression, so I'm sure it'll be a fairly inoffensive change up once they choose a new voice actor.
Anyhow, I'm back on a Pikmin 4 kick. I needed a game to play while I listened to music the other day, and since I want to be able to hear the dialogue of RDR, I decided to continue my Pikmin 4 play through instead. Now I'm re-addicted and will probably finish it before getting heavily back into RDR. I dig having two vastly different games to switch between depending on my mood.
Then it's back to RDR2 on PS4 to finish my replay of that, and maybe I'll give Yes Your Grace more of a go. YYG is a fairly fun game but if you lose, you either need to start over or load a save from a previous "day" to start from. Either way is sort of obnoxious, because you have to go through all the same dialogues again, so it can be a fairly boring process if you JUST went through it.
Aside from those, I may finally finish Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I didn't love it as much as other folks did and found it to be way too easy, so I lost interest fairly soon after buying it. I do hear it gets more difficult as the game goes, and I'm itching for a 3D platformer to play, so I'll probably force myself to continue. It's not BAD by any means, just didn't hold my attention the first time, so maybe I'll be in more of the mood for it now.
Hopefully all that keeps me busy until Super Mario Wonder in October. The longer I wait for that game, the more pumped I get for it. Cannot wait.
> It's gonna be so hard to replace someone who only says "It's a me, Mario!" and "Hu
> huh!" and other nonsensical noises.
Right? I've never understood how much attention this guy gets from fans. I mean, he seems like a nice person, which is great, but I don't think his contribution to Mario games has really been that significant.
There were rumors that he was not reprising his role in SMB Wonder since the voice in the trailer really didn't sound like him. I don't get the love either. I'm sure it will be fine.
> Let's say Waluigi got his own game, what would it even be?
Stealth Action Fashion Simulator Point and Click Adventure Cooking Game Space Shooter Katamari Waluigi Psychological Horror Dating Sim (see also Psychological Horror) Endless Runner Floppy Physics Game
In all seriousness, I would like to see a game called "Too Bad! Waluigi Time!"
The main crux of the game could be Waluigi inviting himself into other Nintendo IPs and making a mess out of them.
I actually just watched this video a few days ago where they translated old articles of interviews from Japanese Nintendo gaming magazines in the late 90s. "Waluigi was created to basically annoy players and get them fired up for matches in Mario Tennis." I don't think Nintendo expected anyone to actually want to play as him, you're supposed to want to kick his ass. They talk about it a bit at 22:30 in this video. They were going to make girlfriends for Waluigi and Wario but Miyamoto shot it down.
> I don't think Nintendo expected anyone to actually want to play as him, you're supposed
> to want to kick his ass.
Wouldn't that be true of Wario as well though? We've been able to play as Wario for a long time. He was the villain in SML2 and then boom, they follow it up with a sequel where he's the main character! Makes no sense.
I think the world is ready for a new Excitebike. Make it like the N64 version though, that's the only one I really liked. The last one on WiiWare that went back to 2D got boring so quick. Keep the track creator and let us share them online.
We'll likely never get another ExciteTruck or ExciteBots and I'm still a little bummed about that, but I'd be surprised if most people even remember those games. No need to kill off the Excite brand completely.
^^ Absolutely. Excitebike 64 is one of the gems of N64. A bit difficult at first. But once you nail the control, the physics feel so awesome. We need another one with the same dedication to nailing the same type of difficult to master but fun physics.
I've actually never played Excitebike 64 myself, so looking forward to trying it. I think this leaves Mario Party 3 as the only previously announced N64 game to not hit the service yet.
Loving RDR2010 on Switch. Had a funny glitch where an NPC was sitting backwards on a bench, then stood up into a wall and got stuck. Likely could've happened in the original release as the game has played solid otherwise. Still holding up. Such great storytelling. Sadly getting close to Mexico which imo gets to be a bit of a drag.
Nice! Me and my kids are so excited for that game. I'm kind of hesitant about watching a 15 minute video of it though. 2D Mario games aren't super long to begin with, so I'd rather not see too much of it ahead of time and instead, be surprised when I actually play it. However, I can't help but wonder (pun intended)...since they're clearly breaking free from the NSMB formula, what else will be different? They seem to be hyping this one up more than they ever did for any of the NSMB games. Maybe we're about to get a much longer/feature-packed 2D Mario game than what we're used to? I would love for that to be the case!

When Nintendo first announced their Switch Online Plus Expansion Pak with the Animal Crossing DLC, a lot of people were laughing, saying there's no way that a handful of genesis and n64 games and one DLC were worth the price (and then bought it anyway as Nintendo fans do).
At the time I said to be patient because it felt like that would only be the start. I felt vindicated when they added the Mario Kart packs, but kinda was soured when some other high profile DLCs were omitted like Xenoblade and Fire Emblem.
So yeah, my expectations for Wonder's DLC are pretty low. I just hope we get something that feels like a whole game without the DLC.
I'd expect about a much content as NSMBU minus the Luigi DLC. I don't see Wonder blowing the doors off typical 2-d Mario content, especially considering it looks like there are many new game elements.
And rather than have DLC for Wonder, I'd much rather they add Wonder DLC to Mario Maker 2. There are still amazing new levels, even some worlds being generated in that game.
Wonder looks like a real trip, I'm still pumped for it. All the neat little additions to classic Mario gameplay is welcome for sure. The only thing I'm not super jazzed about is that all the characters play exactly the same - would have been nice to see Luigi get a longer jump or Peach be able to float, etc. I also wish Yoshi wasn't the game's "easy mode" as I enjoy his flutter jump, but not taking damage unless he falls into a pit ensures I never use him unfortunately.
I hope they add challenge (hard mode? beat the level using x & y or under so much time) modes because all the new characters, power-ups and features make this game look like it will be competing for the easiest (mainline) 2d Mario competing with NSMB2. Also I hope like hell you can turn off the stupid helper scattered throughtout the game. Got some serious Navi vibes there. (Hey, listen!) "I WonDeR hOw YoU gEt OvEr ThEre?" Lastly it looks a bit smaller than NSMBU, but I'm guessing there will be more to unlock so likely a non-issue.
On a plus side it looks fun (even if it is easy). Lots of options. Should be great for the kids. The short challenges change it up even if they borrow from past Mario and other games. Will be interesting to see, but seeing new enemies and abilities this game needs added (in limited fashion) to Maker 2. Mario Maker 3 (well, 2 Dx anyhow) incoming to Switch 2.
From IGN: "We played an hour of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Nintendo's upcoming new 2D Mario game, and were left so impressed – with both the single-player and multiplayer – that it seemed like Nintendo could've gotten away with calling this Super Mario Bros. 4"
I won't spoil their fun by telling them that technically in Japan Super Mario World is Super Mario Bros. 4. I liked what I saw from today's Nintendo Direct overall. Still disappointed in the lack of true online co-op. but I'll still be there day one. I really hope the rumors are true about the later levels being very difficult because what was shown today looked like most of it could've been early in the game.

I actually thought NSMBU was good enough to be considered among the All Star line-up. Good to hear positive impressions on Wonder.
It looks like the wonder flower activates a harder section of the level.
Hopefully they do ramp up the difficulty without sacrificing the ability for the kiddos to do it on their own. I think that will be possible, will have to wait and see if they did it.
Watched DGR's reaction video. You can see in the facial expressions a lot of joy and disappointment.
Re-watching it it reminds me of what I saw of Galaxy before release. A lot of new ideas in a similar format (2d this time around... not referring to gravity). At that point the Mario franchise was pretty much dead to me. I played the demo of Galaxy at a Gamestop and was like they may have something here. Turned out to be by far my favorite 3d Mario at the time, and reinvigorated my interest in the series.
Our Nintendo Live day is tomorrow. Demos are supposed to be available, hopefully get to try the new Mario game. My kids are looking forward to the character photo ops, I guess there’s supposed to be a ton.

They did have a demo of it and the game is pretty fun. A lot going on I wasn’t familiar with but we tried a few 3 star difficulty levels and it was a bit challenging. Kids have already put it on their list for Christmas
Overall the event was pretty cool. A lot of demos and a lot of cool swag after you tried the demos. Was actually shocked at the amount of free, interesting items they handed out. Even got a nice elephant Mario keychain from the Wonder both. Plenty of characters to take photos with as well.
> The game is large enough as is, so don't really need it.
I really enjoyed BotW's DLC, so I'm kinda bummed about this. I at least wanted to see Trial of the Sword in TotK, that was my favorite part of the BotW DLC.
I just figured there would be DLC, since BotW did, and they've been offering at least some form of DLC for most of their 1st party games, for a while now.
I'm a little surprised as well. It couldn't have been too difficult to add some more sky islands and caves, but hopefully they are working on its sequel for Switch 2.
I wish they translated the Japanese games. Most don't matter that much, but I had no idea what that RCR game was.
> Is any source credible these days? All a guessing game.
Nintendo Direct videos are typically a pretty credible source.
Rumors and speculation are just... I don't have enough time to play games, so why wouls I even bother with chasing rumors on them?
If I had completed every game I owned and there were no other games out that I was interested in buying, then I might feel the need to read up on rumors. But I don't think I'll ever get to that point.
I would just save Metroid Prime 4 for a Switch 2 release at this stage. Why release a brand new game on a near 7 year old system that’s had no real mid gen refresh?
> It's Metroid, any and all possible leaks/rumors are worthwhile (IMHO).
I am of the opinion that all leaks and rumors related to future games are bad.
> If it was Nintendo Direct, then it wouldn't be a rumor, and we wouldn't know until
> much closer to release.
Not being a rumor makes it much more valuable. And being closer to release date is better because then you don't have to wait as long! If Nintendo hadn't teased MP4 years ago there wouldn't be as much demand for rumors! They should have waited until they actually had something worth showing.
> The time you took to post about not having time to chase rumors, took longer than
I mean, do we really need an ambassador? Cool and all that he did the voices, but I personally have zero value in meeting the guy. This feels unnecessarily over the top and odd. Is this how they are welcoming Chris Pratt to step in? Haha
Oh well, good for the dude, hopefully he made some good money off a few lines!
They forced Charles to film that at gunpoint. I swear it feels like there has to be something more to this. A week or so ago at some convention he said he doesn't even know what they expect him to do as Mario ambassador, so it's like they didn't even discuss it with him, they made the decision for him.
At least he didn't make a big fuss about it the way the Bayonetta voice actor did when she was replaced, but can't help but feel like there is some kind of drama they are not sharing,
Given how little Mario actually speaks I find this all pretty hilarious. I'll admit he's pretty good at the Mario "wah-hoooo" but I feel like he could probably re-record all Mario voice work for every Mario game ever made in less than an hour.
Nintendo's really good at keeping secrets these days. Any rumors I completely ignore and just resume enjoying Switch, the best portable game system evar!
> Nintendo's really good at keeping secrets these days. Any rumors I completely ignore

I don't know if they're good at keeping secrets or there's just too many people making crap up and being vague about it just to use as clickbait. But some people definitely have inside sources, like that one guy last year who talked about how close to being canceled Everybody 1-2-Switch was a year before Nintendo ever announced it. He had the title of the game right and that it would support smartphones like the Jackbox games with support for up to 100 players, etc., just too much ended up being correct for it to have just been a lucky guess. But because so many people make stuff up because they're desperate for views/clicks, the legit leaks sometimes slip under the radar.

That makes you wonder if that is intentional. They know leaks get out so either hire people to spread fake rumors or “leak” false information on purpose lol
The leaker that said Mario Wonder and SMRPG would be in the last Nintendo Direct is back at it. I'll use a spoiler tag for those that don't care for rumors, or don't potentially want to be spoiled with the upcoming Nintendo Direct (not officially announced, but I think they pretty much always do one around the second or third week of September)
Some kind of Donkey Kong game, and also F-Zero. But while sites immediately started putting up stories about a new F-Zero game as if it's a new full retail game, the leaker has been liking other people's tweets that guessed it being a battle royal type game for NSO subscribers, like Tetris 99. Twitter handle is @Pyoro_X
I know the new retroid I'm getting talks about "hall sticks" which I think uses magnets? I don't know enough about it but I vaguely remember hearing they are much less likely to drift. Can you give a summary of what this patent is?
It does say it uses magnets and "hall sticks", maybe the same thing as the retroid you're talking about? I know a year or two ago a 3rd party released a set of Joy-Cons that said it would never have Joy-Con drift, maybe they were using the same thing.

I was watching Digital Foundry the other day, and that had a lot on the potential Switch 2. And in passing they mentioned that Nintendo might want to announce the switch 2 to get ahead of things because they like to set the news/narrative or something like that.
Basically what they meant was, since talk of switch 2 is heating up, they might feel the time is right to have a sizzle announce trailer for Swith 2. Do you guys think it could happen?

well it's back in stock, I was able to get in a preorder. I noticed "max 1" so perhaps they cancelled a whole bunch of people who tried to order 50+ or something like that. Get a pre-order in just in case I guess, if you really want those cards.
nevermind about the switch 2 during the direct. They say it's for switch games in winter. So Dec. - March. Switch 2 is probably a Summer '24 release at the earliest. I guess there's a minor chance of a switch 2 trailer still.
Would be nice is Switch 2.0 comes out spring to summer of 2024 but I think they may save it for fall 2024 to rake in holiday sales. Especially if it launches with a heavy hitter like Metroid Prime 4 or perhaps a brand new Mario 3D title. Just imagine the bundles. Switch 2.0 designed Metroid console! Ah. A boy can dream.
I was hoping they'd stick to March again for the next console launch, and for that to happen the time to announce it would be within the next couple of weeks. Switch was in March and we know not being near the holidays did nothing to stop it from selling out everywhere.
I'm glad they didn't let the poor launches of 3DS and PS Vita in March scare them off. Releasing in March wasn't the problem, they were just overpriced (and it didn't help that the 3DS launch lineup was one of the all-time worst).
> And risk their holiday switch console sales? Not likely.
>
>
This. Probably more info on holiday releases, some early 2024 stuff, and a preview of Switch's swan song flagship title (which they obviously won't advertise that, and is likely is a Switch 2 launch title).

just keep checking multiple times a day. Because I am still able to order. I did that for lego star wars deluxe and some popped back in and I got my copy.
ok guys make one realistic hope for the direct. Not guesses so much as something you'd like to see, that has a realistic shot to actually be announced. (No Earthbound remakes, Diddy Kong Racing 2, etc!!!)
Unicorn Overlord, MY GOD! It looks like Ogre Battle and Vanillaware had a baby. I am SO hyped for that one! It looks as close to an ogre battle 64 sequel as we'll ever get.

Never a shortage of RPGs to play. I never beat TTYD so that remake looks great, then Unicorn Overlord, and Eiyuden finally coming out in Spring. Hell yeah! Excited!
Not that great of a Direct overall (for me, at least). Most of the games/DLC they discussed were already announced, we just got new info and release dates. I can't believe the Expansion pass for Splatoon 3 isn't coming until Spring 2024 (which you know means it's going to be at the very end of Spring). The game came out a year ago already, and the first part of the DLC was basically nothing.
As for new stuff, I've never played any of the Mario/Donkey Kong games, but it looks kind of fun. That new Contra looks good, especially since it has 4 player co-op (can't wait to make my family play that one with me!) I would have much rather gotten a brand new F-Zero game, but F-Zero 99 does look really fun. I kinda wish it had been based on F-Zero X instead though. Hopefully this is to rekindle interest in the series, and then we'll get a brand new F-Zero game next year. Not much of a Paper Mario fan, so Thousand Year Door being the big reveal at the end did nothing for me. I actually tried to play that game for the first time a year or two ago, and was really enjoying it first, but about 10 hours in it just got too repetitive for me and I lost interest. Maybe I'll try it again on Switch, idk.
Here are all of the highlights (IMO):
Splatoon 3 Expansion Pass "Side Order" - Spring 2024
Just saw that Another Code Collection and the Peach game are $60. Gonna need physical versions if I'm buying those full price. (And yes, I was expecting $60 for the Peach game.)
> Hope Ogre Battle 64 comes to NSO. I meant to download that on Wii U but never did.
ever play it? It's the reason I'm so hyped for Unicorn Overlord. I definitely want to play it again, it was one of the only N64 games to use a battery instead of flash memory. I'm probably going to play it again on a new emulator handheld I have coming in soon that has much better N64 emulation.
> Not that great of a Direct overall (for me, at least).
Same. Almost no excitement for me. All the remakes of old gen games that frankly didn't need to happen imo. Now to complete my hypocrisy, the Contra announcement was my favorite. Normally not a fan of Warioware, but Move It looked intriguing to play with the kids, as did oddly enough that Trombone game and as a bonus it will really get on my wife's nerves.
The Paper Mario remake, of all games, was an odd choice. It was ok, but I immediately sold it when I bought it new as there was zero challenge. The humor was the only redeeming factor.
I got SO excited when I could tell it was a Mario game that they were about to show, thinking it was going to be a new 3D Mario game (which we're overdue for), then I realized it was Paper Mario and was so disappointed instead.
I also was not that excited by the Direct. But this one did have a couple of games that stood out to me, so at least it wasn't a complete disappointment like that one that felt like it had a hundred farm sim games.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, I am way more excited for that than I am for Super Mario RPG, but I'm probably in the minority there. With TTYD I got up to the end boss battle all the way back in 2004 and then saved my game, played another game (I think whatever that year's WWE game was that released around the same time) and then never went back to TTYD. So I feel like I have unfinished business. However, I am disappointed that they aren't remastering the first Paper Mario with it (same with Luigi's Mansion 1 not being remastered with LM2). I just don't like Nintendo's habit of remastering single games so they can charge full price for them individually instead of remastering multiple entries together, like Uncharted Trilogy or Halo's Master Chief Collection or ya know, the Tomb Raider remaster that was announced in the same Direct where you're getting the whole trilogy remastered instead of just one of them. I think it would feel like an even bigger deal to do more than just one game.
Most excited for Mario vs. DK because even if the gameplay of DK 94 is still superior, I do love the puzzle style of that game. Then about a single notch down in excitement for anything else Mario-related (Peach, MK8 DLC, RPG, TYD). Then no real excitement for anything else.
So that first win I got didn't count as a victory in F-Zero 99 mode. It was actually the first race in a mini prix I won. Still against 98 other players, but makes sense that the Prix modes would have their own stats. I finished 8th in that Prix overall. I did win in F-Zero 99 after that, and it just unlocked a new color for the Wild Goose vehicle I used.
Definitely a fun game. Will be interesting to see if I keep playing it, or just stop like I did with Pac-Man 99.
>> Mario vs. Donkey looks to be a remake of the GBA which was fun but didn’t have
>> the best graphics.
>
> Yeah, it's a remake of the GBA game.
On one hand that is good, because the original GBA game is the one I liked the most, and each one released after that seemed to be less fun than the one before it. On the other hand, they're charging $50 for a GBA game? At least they're adding a co-op mode to it and I don't recall them mentioning that during the Direct.
Actually, I am a bit more pumped for Thousand Year Door than I initially thought. I was only half watching the Direct so it didn't even register to me that it's a remake, not just a port. Rewatching that segment and it looks gorgeous.
I never played through the game. I have it for Gamecube and started a few months ago but it's not practical to have my Gamecube hooked up at all times so didn't get far. It's still not a huge day one want or anything, but I will be snagging it eventually.
It was one of the easiest games I've played since it was released. So it was more about the experience. The original had no replay value imo. Good on those who are excited. I'm not one of them.
I'm excited for people who never got to play it on GC since that version's $100 now, and internet know-it-alls have been complaining about every Paper Mario game since then because none of them followed the same formula.
(Sticker Star has its flaws but is mostly pretty great. Fight me.)
Biggest heartstopper moments for me were Trace Memory/Another Code R remakesters and Contra. Also happy about Mario & DK getting some love.
I watched after the fact so I also had the privilege of fast forwarding through anything I didn't care about. Off the top of my head that was Splatoon 3 DLC, Among Us, and whatever had farming/crafting in it.
Got a 3rd first place victory, in Team Battle this time. Every time you win a race, it adds to the total on your badge. So my badge has a 3 now. It doesn't matter which mode you win in as long as you finish first. Would like to win a Grand Prix now.
I've played about two and a half hours now and am not really much of a F-Zero vet. So more experienced players could get really good at this game. Just got to figure out how to use your boost efficiently. Getting a KO helps because it refills your meter and increases power.

Thanks for the detailed post/highlights. I wanted to know what they had talked about on the direct, but am in a rush at the moment and really can't watch the full thing right now. Your post made things easy, and satisfied my curiosity. Thanks for that.
Thousand Year Door Remake? Hmmmm. Wouldn't have expected that.
Another Warioware game?! Stop. Just give us another Wario Land game Nintendo. Wario LAND, not Wario WARE. Wario LAND. L...A...N...D...
Don't get me wrong, Warioware is fun and funky, but I really enjoyed the Wario Land series and it's been so long, too long, since there was a Wario platformer.
Yeah I agree on that front. We need a new Wario Land game. Wario Ware they charge almost full price for a game that’s more of a do it while you’re on the bowl dropping a deuce for a few minutes at a time. Warioware would probably excel more as a mobile game at this point.

You can go to Nintendo's youtube page and look at the last 20 videos or so (just view the thumbnail and video name) to see everything they revealed. And then you can watch a 2 minute video for the ones you're most interested in. Don't have to watch the whole direct to find out.
I didn't watch the direct, only saw highlights after. I haven't heard anybody mention a new Contra until reading through comments here. Holy crap, that looks awesome. It's the first REAL Contra since either Contra 4 on DS or that Contra Returns game on WiiWare.
In today's gaming landscape, when indie developers are churning out tons of amazing, 2D pixel art games at a rapid pace, why the hell has or taken Konami so long to capitalize on one of their greatest legacy franchises? What do we have to do to get more 2D Castlevanias similar to the GBA games?
I think it was Nintendo who recently came out and said that 2D pixel graphics “aren’t practical.” I don’t know what the frig that means from a developer’s POV considering indie developers with a fraction of a AAA studio’s budget seem to be able to make successful, critically-acclaimed games using pixel graphics. Maybe it’s just a “general audience”/mainstream gamer thing?
Just won a Grand Prix in F-Zero 99. Didn't actually win any of the races, but making the top 10 every time gives you a chance. I just need to get better on Silence. Barely managed to get 7th place on that track, but that was enough to maintain my overall lead. Won by 8 points total. Hope they add the other eight tracks to this game soon.
dragon quest monsters the dark prince was the final game from the june direct I was waiting for a box art. Found it so that's added to the GTZ database now.
For the Sep direct, I am now waiting for box pics for Eiyuden 100 heroes and TTYD remake. All others are in the system I believe.
I also miss Super Mario Bros. 35, it was the only one of the battle royal type games that I enjoyed and had the most realistic chance of a 1st place finish in, though I admit it did get old after a while just like the rest of them. I played the Tetris, Pac-man and Bomberman ones each for a couple of days before deleting them, but SMB 35 I got a few months of fun out of it at least.
I haven't even started F-Zero 99 yet, once I saw it was using the graphics of the SNES version I was less excited, because I assume that's the version they're basing it off of and that's the one I enjoyed the least (I pretty much only liked the N64 and GameCube versions).
I watched a streamer play it and saw some people in chat hoping they'd make a Star Fox 99 and/or Excitebike 99. I think we shouldn't just suggest that they give the battle royal treatment to all of their neglected franchises. As cool as this F-Zero might be to some (or Excitebike 99/Star Fox 99 could be), it isn't quite the same as if we had gotten an original entry in the series. Hopefully there will be a new one on the next console and they were just using this one as a way to introduce the series to a whole new generation of players.

I don't care for the SNES game either, but 99 doesn't really feel much like it. It's a lot faster and chaotic with all the players. I've been playing it a bit too much myself lol. I'm trying to stay on the leader board so I can earn the badge associated with it. If I'm not on there after the weekly standings, it will be the only time I attempt it. I've got other games I want to play haha. Already kinda forgot what I was doing in Tunic.
Does everybody else's eShop run at a snail's pace or just mine? Whenever I want to browse the selection, it loads so slowly and the pages have wildly noticeable hang-ups. Gets to the point where it just doesn't feel worth it to scroll through the games unless there's something you already know you want so you can just search for it.

This is pretty standard in my experience.
Basically you have to check for new interesting stuff every week or it goes down into the pit of lethargic eternity, never to be seen again unless called upon by name.
All the estorefronts are terrible, but N's is terrible AND slower than molasses going uphill in winter.
Yah it's rough. Happy to know it's not just my system crapping out though.
Anyhow, switching subjects: I got back to Red Dead Redemption finally. Pikmin 4 and a few other games(/real life) dragged me away from it for a bit. I just got past what I believe is the last Bonnie mission, at least for now...
...when the bandits try to hang her in exchange for their buddy...
...and did a few more missions with the group of fellas that John is apparently going to use to go after Bill. I still feel like I'm fairly early in the game's story, but what I've seen so far has been good, classic Western stuff.
However, I will say that there's one major issue I'm having with the game and it's not the game's fault at all. I just feel like I jipped myself out of a truly wonderful open-world experience with RDR. I imagine if I got RDR back when it was released, I would have spent hours upon hours exploring the open world and getting lost in every little extra thing. But having played RDR2 first and spending way too much time exploring THAT game's open-world, I find myself being wholly uninterested in exploring RDR's. Everything from the size, to the scope, to the graphics, to the interactivity and NPCs... it's all just so much better realized in RDR2 (for obvious reasons). So now when I play RDR, I really just want to experience the main characters and the story and never find myself going off the beaten path to just exist in the game world. In the couple instances where I did, I just found myself missing RDR2's exploration more than fully immersing myself in RDR's.
I can still definitely see why folks love the game and the story so far has been awesome, but it pretty much just amounts to a linear Western game for me. Which, again, isn't to say it's bad, it's just that I spoiled myself by playing the newer, bigger game first.

I can see where RDR2 took some of the luster out of RDR, but in my very biased opinion RDR is the better game overall. I could not stand the main story in RDR2, and the missions oftentimes were damn near rail shooters with how they forced your hand. I enjoy taking my time on missions, looting every body. You can do that more often than not in RDR. In RDR2 you pause to loot more than one or two and it's mission failed as some dumbass got killed. Rob a bank and the entire town is out front? Can't go out the back door. Slip out the side unscathed to your horse? Nope, that's a mission fail cause your gang just runs straight into gunfire. I would never want to play the main story of RDR2 again. I'm on my third play through of RDR. The world was great. I'd love to revisit it one day, but I would hate to have to play through it again just to unlock it.
Also, do the stranger missions, the black ? marks. Many of those are great mini-stories, I can think of 2 that imo are more memorable than anything in RDR2.
RDR2 is probably in my top 5 video game stories of all time, so ya won’t find me relating to your experience too hard haha. I didn’t mind the looting thing in RDR2 either - it just added a sense of realism/tension to each scenario in that one wouldn’t really have the time to loot a couple of bucks or gold watch from a body in the heat of a big ol’ mishap. Plus I sorta hate how 9/10 times, the camera angle switches when you loot a body in RDR, making the simple animation more of a tiny cutscene. Sorta hinders the flow to an extent.
As for the gang running into the heat like that, I sorta always just looked at it as blind loyalty to Dutch and his wild need to make a statement with anything he did. I suppose it is a little strange/unrealistic that nobody would ever just try to escape unscathed but I loved the gunfighting combat, so I didn’t mind being forced into it.
I’ll keep my eye out for the stranger missions. I have done a couple but I don’t know if I’m doing them right. I’ll achieve the goal but the question marks still appear where the mission began until I get close enough to them, then they disappear. Am I supposed to be able to return to the stranger to close out the mission or no?
Dutch, Arthur, and most of the rest are a big reason why I hated the story. Damn near every decision Dutch made was the wrong one. It got to the point when riding from A to B I'd constantly be trying to shoot the other gang members in the back of the head. And the shipwreck island part shouldn't have even been in the game. Arg! /rant
The ? is big at first so you see it on your map. When you get closer it becomes much smaller and moves to the person of interest, usually a press of the down "arrow on the d-pad" reveals it. A cut scene should signify you activated it and the person gives you a task. Some are multiple interactions with the same or different people. Also did you know you can switch which shoulder you look over while aiming? Right or left on the "d-pad" while aiming.
I was just watching a video of Horizon Chase 2 on the Switch, which released last week during the Nintendo Direct. They made it so if you want to race online the game requires you to make an Epic Games Account if you don't already have one. I don't like when games force you to make accounts for an outside service. I assume it has to do with the cross-platform multiplayer, but even Fall Guys leaves that optional and lets you only match up with other Switch players. But whatever, that's really not a deal breaker, I do have an EGS account anyway.
But it feels like they might have rushed this game to get it out in time for that Nintendo Direct. Not only are there some performance issues that hopefully can be fixed in a patch, but what also needs to be fixed in a patch is that the on-screen button icons are incorrect. For example it tells you to press the RB button to cycle between the maps you want to play on, but there is no RB button on Switch, that's an Xbox thing.
I just picked up the physical release of Pikmin 1 & 2 and fired up Pikmin 1 today. Sometimes it's easy to forget how much this series (and games in general) have improved in regards to controls and the user interface. I keep fighting with the controls and zooming in and out. You can't select the necessary Pikmin. And controlling large groups of Pikmin usually results in unnecessary deaths. I lost 20 Pikmin in the water trying to cross a bridge. Playing this after Pikmin 4 is painful.
Speaking of Pikmin, did you guys see the headlines "Miyamoto wonders why the Pikmin games don't sell more" over the summer leading up to Pikmin 4's release? He suggested it was possibly because of the games' difficulty, rather than the first three games releasing on their worst selling consoles ever.

To me the audience is just small. It's too complex for young kids, and too flowery/laid back looking for older kids. So that leaves a niche market that enjoys it, and a large market who won't give the demo more than 1 day (in game) to get hooked if they even download it.
If they want more buzz, they should make it a free weekend game with Online sub.
With me finally starting over and giving DQV remake a go again, I'm in the DQ mood so I got Dragon Quest Treasures sealed for $27.50 shipped from an ebay seller. Glad I checked ebay, Amazon has it for $34.99 which is already a decent price. DQT is definitely an interesting sounding DQ gaiden game I want to play at some point. With that and DQ Monsters coming, lots of Dragon Quest fun to be had!
@theJaw RDR2 just rated for Switch in Brazil. I hope this is for a Switch successor coming next spring and not some crapty massively downgraded port or cloud game.

There is a demo for Dark Prince, but I'm just going to wait til it come sout. Not as interested in Infinity Strash but I'll watch some reviews. It seems more geared toward the elden ring style difficult parry/dodge type of action which I don't like.
> @theJaw RDR2 just rated for Switch in Brazil. I hope this is for a Switch successor

Oh pretty neat. I imagine it'll just be a port for the current system if it's already getting rated, but I honestly don't know how that stuff works. To be honest, I already have it on PS4, so if I really need to play it in mega ultra HD or whatever, I'll just do it there. If they can get it to run on Switch, even if it performs/looks like the RDR1 port, I'll probably snag it just to have it handheld. But yah, I'd need to wait for reviews to make sure it's not just a lazy port to capitalize on the current hype RDR suddenly has again.
On a somewhat related note, I bit the bullet and snagged the GTA Trilogy for Switch -- for significantly less than full price of course, used from eBay (still shouldn't be spending the money but whatev). Got it mainly for the lady but obviously I've been playing it more haha. So far so good though, I don't really feel like it's as bad as folks were making it out to be when it first dropped. Just another case of "it's cool to have handheld" so I'm fine giving it certain allowances performance-wise. I do think the patch that released for it fixed a lot of things. Only played a bit of Vice City so far though, as that's the only one I'm super interested in revisiting (my favorite GTA next to V). But again, it's cool to have the other two on handheld if I ever get the itch.
Yeah I heard they've patched a lot of the problems people were experiencing at launch in the GTA Trilogy. I might pick it up myself if it's on sale during Black Friday or something.
As for RDR2, not sure how legit it is because I read it on Discord and didn't look further into it, but it seems like RDR2 will be a real port and not just a cloud version, because apparently Brazil doesn't rate cloud versions of games because there are no cloud servers hosted there.
I dumped my Switch earlier in the year because I was tired of the rehashed junk and didnt see anything coming that interested me. Now Wonder has slapped the mess out of me and forced me to GS yesterday to preorder the game and a Switch/Mario Kart bundle coming out 10/6. I have always really enjoyed the main line Mario games but the 2D ones (old and new) have always been more enjoyable for me. The Badges in this game almost make it like a Metroidvania type of game. Man if they would give Mario a full on Metroidvania title that would be awesome.
Pretty pumped for this little late game Mario push coming to Switch. Wonder, Thousand Year Door, RPG, Peach. Fun time to be a Mario fan.
Other than spin-off/sports games, I think the only Mario games I don't have for the Switch are whichever NSMB game they rereleased for it and the second Mario+Rabbids game. I plan on snagging them both at some point but they aren't a priority. I also only have Bowser's Fury digitally and am kicking myself for not just getting it physical.
I still feel it's definitely worth owning to have these games so easily accessible, but man, part of me feels like I should have left Vice City in the past. I still love the atmosphere and the overall vibe of the game -- the 80s Miami-inspired setting and all the neon lights that come with it. Still awesome. But what once felt like a huge, endlessly explorable world now feels VERY limited, especially after having played through GTA V like 3 times. It's a little heartbreaking to see how small this game is when it felt like such a huge undertaking back in the day through the eyes of a 90s (early 2000s) kid. And then of course there's the gameplay itself, which is obviously just not nearly as polished as it is these days. Shooting and whatnot doesn't have the weight it does in later installments and just feels sorta hollow.
Unlike RDR, where I definitely feel its age when compared to RDR2 but still find it vast and engaging, Vice City feels like a Gameboy game compared to where the series eventually got with IV and V. A game that's fun to play in real short bursts, but put back down before you really feel disappointed by how you don't get the same satisfaction from it as you used to. Oh well, I still love the game, it's just different nowadays for obvious reasons. I figure if I just get past the early portions and keep pushing through, I'll get reacclimated enough to look past its age and just enjoy it for what it is.
Related: Got past the Fort Mercer bit in RDR before GTA arrived. I'm definitely starting to get used to that game's age too and enjoying it on its own merits. I was surprised to learn that Fort Mercer is already like 30% through the story, so I figure I'll be wrapping the main game up sooner than later.

Interesting! Mario Metroidvania? I'll call it Mariovania.
While intriguing, I think for me that would take away from the Mario experience. Would make it more like Metroid. Though the idea is very interesting, and not bad at all. I wonder if there have been fan made Mariovania games.
@nonamesleft maybe I'm thinking about a mario themed metroidvania because I see all these other genres of mario games that I don't prefer, fighting, sports, rpg, party games. If settle for a mario fps though hahaha.

I will forever hold Vice City in high regards. It was so amazing for the time...easily my favorite GTA game. For some reason, I could never get into GTA V. I tried to go back to Vice City a few years ago. I think I quit about 5-10 minutes in. It's like Goldeneye...sometimes it's better to leave these games in the past where we remember them for being so much more amazing than they actually were.
Yah, Goldeneye was like a chore when I went back to it a while ago. I can at least still play a mission or two of Vice City before the sinking feeling starts to creep in haha. I'm with you though, I'll always hold Vice City up there. For the time, it's a classic and it's still dumb fun even if it's not as engaging as it once was. I do think V is my all-time favorite GTA, but Vice City takes the #2 spot and is easily my nostalgic favorite above all others.
With the GTA trilogy and RDR on the Switch with RDR2 possibly on the way, I'm surprised Rockstar hasn't ported GTA V over yet. They've rereleased that game so many times, I find it baffling that they'd pass up another opportunity to -- even if it'd probably perform significantly worse.
Mario & Rabids opened the door to Mario to weapons. I would think that they would probably go with a 3rd person shooter, like Plants vs Zombies. Who knows, maybe Ubisoft has already pitched it.
> Yah, Goldeneye was like a chore when I went back to it a while ago...
Definitely in the minority, but Goldeneye on N64 Online might be my favorite shooter on Switch after changing the controller scheme to modern controls.

It's not 100% modern style, but it's close. You have to change an option in game and also remap some buttons in the Switch menu. Good thing is you can save button mapping configs in the Switch menu.
I'm not pretending it holds up to modern shooters, but it has always been my favorite fps since I first bought it. The gameplay has a slower pace than modern shooters which I enjoy. It feels like every shot counts. The 4 player MP was my high school, and the single player with 4 difficulties and cheat unlocks lead to 100's of hours of gameplay.

Had so much fun goldeneye multiplayer so many years ago with my friend. I forgot the level we always played, warehouse tunnel or something like that? Would definitely play if I had switch online, but I just don't need more gaming options to take time away from all of my single player games.

I was shocked at how bad the Switch Online classic games multiplayer worked for me. I tried playing game boy tetris with a friend online and it was so unbelievably laggy that it was near unplayable.
So then I tried local wireless with my wife and it was only marginally better. Still tons of lag.
If they can't even get a simple 2 player game game like Tetris to run well I don't have high hopes for more complex games like Goldeneye.
Nintendo may be the king of couch multiplayer but their wireless/online is useless
Disgaea 7 release snuck up on me, from what i've heard they listened and fixed all the issues Disagaea 6 had, and made sure it runs good on the switch as well as undoing a lot of the popular changes.
There is a demo I need to try tonight, but i pre-ordered it as I really enjoy them.
Nintendo is ending online service on 3DS and Wii U in April 2024. I might go and revisit Animal Crossing on 3DS until then. A lot of my overseas gaming friends went back to it because of the Switch version of ACNH feeling so boring in comparison and lacking features.
As for Wii U, I just played another run through 100 Mario Challenge in Super Mario Maker around 3 days ago. That game might as well be used as a coaster after April but until then I'll continue playing the heck out of it..
Gonna suck it up and hold off on buying any new Switch game until that Switch 2 comes out. It’s gonna be rough but I think I can do it. Got a lot already in my Switch backlog to keep me occupied for many months.

That's what I've been trying to do as well. I've skipped Zelda, Pikmin and whatever else they've released this year without a second thought, but I gotta make an exception for mah boi Mario.
> I have all the upcoming Mario games (+Peach) pre-ordered already. Very ready to get
> shroomed up.
I have enough of a backlog where I wasn't going to order right away but walmart had a little pack of mario cards and that will slightly increase the value of something that will always sit on my shelf, and that matters (/sarcasm?). Anyway I'm looking forward to it and it won't take too long to beat.
Say one digital purchase. I just can't do switch physical honestly those tiny carts and with travel... like I can't be switching those tiny carts all the time especially on planes etc
I don't do day one for digital ever unless the game has no physical release. Most cases carry like 10-20 carts and it's pretty trivial to swap them out. I love that I can carry around a postage stamp that I'm able to resell/trade.
I paid $40 for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and man I wish I had it physical to try to get some money back. If that had been a $60 or $70 game I'd be fuming and it would just be a huge wasted money. At $40 I even feel bad.
Digital is cool because the first party games are $40 tax included (vouchers, can get eShop for 20% off very often) so it just makes more sense I think, but definitely personal preference
I don't change my switch carts very often. And all of the carrying cases I have, have a dozen or so slots for games. It's been that way since the PSP and DS. I will continue to do that for as long as Nintendo sticks with physical releases.
