Preseason is over. Fantasy football drafts have started. Cut day is tomorrow. The NFL continuing down the pay-per-view path. Figured I'd open another thread. Who are your fantasy must own or sleepers?

Don't know about must own, but I got first round pick in my FFL but couldn't join until a few minutes in. Auto-draft got me Justin Jefferson Jefferson (yay) and Jonathan Taylor (boo, but maybe not? we'll see after tomorrow.)

This is the first draft I'm doing without knowing what position I'll be drafting until right before the draft. Pretty excited for that. I'm not sure who to draft if it ends up top 3 or so. Tempted to take Kelce in the middle of the first. All my mocks are running wr's before rb's. I think it will be top 4-5 rb's, top 3-4 wr's and Kelce in mine. Should be fun!

Not specifically NFL related, but anyone watch the show "Ballers" with the Rock? I just started it up last week. It's a lot of fun so far - kind of like the show Entourage except for pro football. I am about half-way through the first season. Check it out if you like sports, it's a fun dramatized look at a lot of off the field stuff players deal with.

It's going to look better than it is due to being an 8 team league, but here's my first team (No ppr):

QB Herbert
Wr Diggs
Rb Mixon
Te Kelce
Wr/Te D Adams
Wr/Rb Mattison
K Mia
D Phi
Bench
B-Rob
J Taylor
D Cook
A Cooper
M Evans
Tua

If Taylor can come back to 90% of what he was after week 4 this team is going to make a run. If he Leveon's should still be competitive. Cook, Evans and Tua are my drop candidates, and possibly B-Rob depending on what Bienemy does. I badly want to pick up Justyn Ross, and maybe even Rashee Rice of the Chiefs. By years end I think one of them will be KC's wr1 (besides Kelce). I don't trust their staff enough to get them enough reps early in the year to justify a spot though.

Yahoo fantasy says he's out in an update, but they still have him listed as questionable. Need him switched to out so I can put him on IR and pick up another TE.

Tempted to pick up LaPorta, but KC's LB core is legit. If he were to go off, would be good trade bait.

Edit: They initially put him NA (like he got benched not for injury) making him ineligible for IR. Thankfully it got corrected. Rolling with the unknown in LaPorta.

Deshaun's guaranteed money is what is so painful. Sure, give the guy a 2nd chance if you can rationalize that and live with yourself. Ok. But handing him $230M no matter what is just another feather in the hat of Browns bad decisions.

Pretty sure Watson said he didn't want to go to Cleveland before they agreed to terms. I think the contract was the only way they'd get him to waive his no trade clause.

On the radio they said it was the Giants first (offensive?) TD since Sept 21st.

Loud mouth Buffalo fans. There was that one guy here years ago, but my dislike of Buffalo sports team's predates that. Went to school with an obnoxious Bill's fan, worked with some nut ball Buffalo Sabres/Bills fans. they just rub me the wrong way. I feel you Feeb, I feel whole heartedly that this is the worst Pats team the nation has seen in 25+ years. Usually I feel like the Giants are the "what the hell is this team doing" team. This year, it's the Pats...the personnel is wrong, players aren't living up to expectations, finding new and interesting ways to lose. It's the Pats this year.

Terrible in FA
Terrible QB options. Mac Jones is making high school level embarrassing decisions, coaching staff embarrassing themselves putting in Zappe in a two minute drill after the starting QB made a debacle of the whole thing.
No true WR1
Run game I like and the defense is good, except our two best skill players are out for the season, Judon and rookie Christian Gonzales.

Just a rough, rough season. Pats had it coming.

In other news, Josh Dobbs and the Vikings are rallying and have a lot of momentum, I'm happy for them. Stroud is the first Ohio State QB to hit the ground running in the NFL in a long long time....maybe ever. I hope he keeps it up.

I think it’s because there is an abundance of young QBs and “sheltered” QBs. Those that came up on bad teams and worked with untrusting staff and limited playbook. Falcons (smith philosophy in general) are a prime example of a system that makes / shelters bad QBs the last few years. They never grow and/ or are not allowed to and it’s awful to watch.

K-State had 32 first downs on 102 offensive plays. Iowa State only had 10 first downs on 35 plays (K-State nearly had as many first downs as ISU had offensive snaps). They both had nearly 500 yards of offense. Cyclones averaged 13.9 yards per play. Aside from one 33 yard pass, their next shortest score was 60 yards. Their RB had scores of 60, 71 and 77. I just saw that. Looks like a $40-50M cap hit next year if they release him as reported. Are they going to try to trade him, and if no suiters they take the cap offset? Who signs him if free? He likely wants to start still. A handful of spots open on the cheap with Denver paying his salary. Screams of Belichick's last stand in NE. Titans, Bears, Vikings, Giants, Raiders as other options. If none of those back-up to Watson in Cle or Purdy in SF if the price is right.

This one was by far the shadiest. The flag was SOOOO LATE and out of place. The ref fudgeed up by not getting clarification on the UNTIMED down after having two linemen requesting to be eligible. This one needs investigated and a response from the NFL. There is 0 chance the refs didn't fudge up.

No surprise they are blaming the player while (reportedly) quietly demoting the ref from the play-offs. Complete bullcrap. Someone who lost a decent amount of cash who is loaded should sue the NFL just to get the audio and any conversations behind closed doors exposed.

I believe the ref just fudgeed up, but that should've been the response. This was not on the player, this was on the refs. They missed 2 penalties and failed to call a third until presumably Dallas players protested well after the play. They thought he was eligible by not throwing any of those 3 penalties. Not a Dallas hater nor a Detroit fan, have no real rooting interest in the NFC aside from a light hearted 'I'll root for them' (9rs this year). Bad look for the NFL, and is the first time that seriously makes me wonder why be a fan?

Time after time the league covers the crappy refs by putting out a worthless yeah they got it wrong statement, our like this ref squad demotion, while not doing much of anything to improve officiating. As much money as the league makes why not make ref jobs full time and train the hell out of them? Or add a ref or two to each ref team. What really irks me this time is there was 0 chance the ref didn't get it wrong, yet they put 0 blame on the ref. Literally the ref fudgeed up multiple times on a single play any which way you slice it that likely determined a game with major play-off implications, and publicly the league blamed the players. Hot garbage.

Falcons fire smith about 10 weeks late. He seemingly had no concrete plans as evidenced by the QB waffling and indecisive play calling. He did the same with mariota. So we now know the result of the botched Lions/Cowboy ineligible call. Cowboys take the 2nd seed, Lions the 3rd. 49ers were able to rest yesterday and ultimately lose vs the Rams, where as a Lions win would have meant the 49ers would have been playing for the 1 seed yesterday...who knows what transpires if that's the case, maybe they win handily, maybe a star player gets banged up. *shrug*

Jaguars epic collapse ultimately allows the Steelers to sneak in.

Chiefs and Eagles playing less than ideal heading into the playoffs.

If I could have it my way, I'd pick the Texans or Browns to rep the AFC; I'm more forgiving with the NFC, so anyone but the Cowboys, Eagles, or Packers.

Ultimately I'm thinking it will be the Ravens (ugh) from the AFC, and hoping for the Lions in the NFC. 49ers or Bucs (no chance, but my son roots for them) would be fine too.

I've been very outspoken on that call, but I rewatched it with audio and my stance has softened a bit. Don't get me wrong, the ref messed up multiple times which ended up escalating things to where they got, and the NFL poured fuel on the fire by publicly (seemingly) absolving the ref, but the Lions were just as guilty for the mix-up. They were trying to fool the 'boys by having 2 line-men report as eligible at the same time (which can't be done). The ref clearly stated 70 was eligible, and Decker didn't do much of anything to get the ref's attention to correct it nor did 70. Had the flag been thrown for illegal formation or illegal man downfield or illegal touching immediately the Lions wouldn't have celebrated as long, and it wouldn't have been as much of the clown show it was.

As for the play-offs, no one is hotter than the Ravens and (a mostly healthy) Rams. Nobody is unbeatable, and I may be wrong but I think 3 teams in the AFC can beat the Ravens (doesn't mean any will). I still say the 9rs are the favorites in the NFC if they stay healthy. Rarely do two 1 seeds play each other, so expect at least one upset.

Rooting for the Chiefs for obvious reasons, but honestly if I wasn't a lifelong fan I probably wouldn't. Too much exposure and praise, and not enough admission of faults. If not the Chiefs then the 9rs for Purdy (go Cyclones!). The only teams I'd rather not see win it are ones that have won it in the past 15-20 years (Bal, Pit, Sea, TB, Phi, GB) and Dallas... because Dallas fans are insufferable. I actually wouldn't mind the Rams oddly enough because that would be a good story, they were supposed to be terrible, and I like Stafford. Also would pull for Hou, Det, Cle or Buf to finally get one.

Pete Carroll said after it was succeed that he wouldn't be the coach, that he has lots of energy and he "competed pretty hard" to remain the coach, also said it was his intention to return.

Now this is nuts....
PFT is reporting that the Patriots have a contract in place with Jerod Mayo to be the next successor to Belichick. That's interesting for sure, what's crazy is that the contract was put in place before the session started. So now, the Patriots may not follow through with Mayo, going with Vrabel instead.

I'm hoping the Pats bring Mike Vrabel back. However, it looks like Jarod Mayo is the front runner for head coach, I like him too, but I want to see a HC with previous HC experience.

More than another ring, I think Bill is just chasing that all-time win record. He's just 15 wins away, if he can land on a playoff ready team, he can achieve that in his final two years, when he'll ultimately retire.

Yeah, Bill isn't chasing rings now, he has them. And did nothing without Brady in New England.

It's other long-term records that would be the incentive. I didn't know about the 15 wins away, that sure seems like it's worth his time for 2 more years somewhere.

And Vrabel should be welcomed everywhere. I think he did an amazing job with what he had. Tannehill has been barely adequate since Mariotta was out, and the new QB (forget his name, Willis?) is not going to be the guy either. But both QB's have exposed how bad the team build has been.

I want Justin Herbert to get some support. Would love Vrabel or Belichick to come to the Chargers and get them to not lose all their games by 7 points or less.

Dolphins-Chiefs will only be available on Peacock outside of their respective markets. Even Sunday ticket subscribers won't be able to watch it without subscribing to Peacock. I wonder how many fans and sports bar owners know this? I heard it would be exclusively on Peacock all week, but I assumed Sunday ticket would still get the game much like ESPN and Amazon Prime games.

Jarod Mayo is officially the Patriots' new head coach. I can't be too upset about not going with Vrabel. Mayo has been with the Pats a long time. He definitely appeals to the players and should be defensive-minded enough to keep the Patriots defense rolling.

I have YouTubeTV with Sunday Ticket and I'm certain the Amazon games are still exclusive to Amazon. At least those were mostly notoriously bad TNF matchups. This exclusive playoff game nonsense is obviously worse. At least Peacock is cheap I suppose...

I'm right there with you. I'll stop following the NFL if they keep going down this path. I've already stopped watching the NHL, MLB and college sports because it became increasingly more difficult and costly to watch my teams.

Another bad NFL PR move:
Detroit is excited to host a playoff game since I don't know when. A theater wanted to throw a free watch party at 8 theaters. The NFL caught wind of it and put a stop to it. Another group was holding a jersey swap at a Twin Peaks. They were going to take in Stafford Lions jerseys and give out jerseys for current players, then donate the jerseys they take in to LA homeless shelters. The NFL stopped that too, though I don't know how legally.

NFL is turning into Nintendo... lol

Good win for the Chiefs. This might have been the first game I've seen Josh Allen lose some poise. Two wide open receivers underneath for 5-10 more yards and he takes two ill-advised shots to the endzone instead.

Thoughts this weekend:
It's fun seeing Taylor Swift's TD celebration when the Chiefs score instead of the player's. NOT

Jason Kelce shirtless and pounding beers was fun. He's way cooler than his brother.

Kelce/Mahomes eclipse Gronk/Brady for postseason TDs. Well earned.

Now I'm forced to root for the Ravens in the AFC for a change of scenery, but GO LIONS!

Maybe he demanded too much power in ATL? If he did so what? Roll the dice and give the man whatever he wants. Its not like ATL has an awesome roster, or amazing history. Instead they go with Morris. I hope he succeeds but seems like a cop out. Then you've got Vrabel still out there. Maybe one or both will get a shot with the Seahawks or Commanders.

That's what the rumor was. He wants to be commander in chief, but I'm not sure any owner would go for that today. He hasn't even interviewed with Seattle or Washington.

I don't see him in Seattle. Washington would be a decent fit with their defense, but they just went through an ownership change, will likely want to rebrand and have a say in the direction of the team. Plus I feel this would end up a lot like the Ron Rivera hire. A handful of years of mediocrity and out the door.

No doubt.

Why would any owner give Bill total control when his draft track record isn't great, his record post-GOAT, and he blundered into Brady thanks to 1 scout who reportedly stood on a table during the draft and threatened to quit if they didn't pick him after 5 rounds of passing on him.

Even if the 'Boys fire Mike next season, Jerry won't turn the reigns over to Bill. Bill is going to have to give up his power to chase Halas. I think he retires rather than further tarnish his legacy as a HC. I could be wrong, but I don't see him taking any other role, not even as a figurehead.

It's all speculation and talking heads presuming why it didn't work out. No one from either side has said why it didn't work out and we may never know.

Why wouldn't Bill give up his front office power? I doubt he's looking to build another dynasty from the ground up at 71. This is simply about 15 more wins. Two years with a team that's already built and I think he's off into the sunset. As long as we're speculating, there's mine.

Not having the greatest QB in the history of the league certainly hurts the team; any team. No surprise there. It's also no surprise that Bill is a defensive-minded coach. So I'll say this, 7, 2, 11, 15, are the overall defensive rankings for the Pats in the years post Brady. Despite having the 3rd worst scoring offense and 2nd lowest ToP in the league, the Patriots were able to hang around in most games this season.

Lost to the Bills by 6
Lost to the Chargers 6
Lost to the Giants by 3
Lost to the Colts by 4
Lost to the Commanders by 3
Lost to the Raiders by 4
Lost to the Eagles by 5

Lots of bad football, especially by the offense this season, but to me, this screams get me a QB/WR more than get me a new coach. A more effective QB picks up half of those close losses and maybe the Patriots have a shot at a WC spot.

Thoughts on the game:
- Why abandon CMC in quarters 2 & 3??? Especially when you're ahead!? Drain the clock, maybe get up by another score. You knew the Chiefs offense wasn't going to be at 0 forever.
- Greenlaw and Deebo both go down with non-contact injuries...can't make this up. Man, Kittle went out later in the game as well. Tough stuff
- Angry or not, why is Kelce nearly knocking down his coach/a senior because he's mad he was open? More bad look type stuff.
- For all the gripes about the refs this year, warranted or not, I thought this game was well officiated, but I doubt it will be brought up much if at all.
- While Usher didn't sound the best, the halftime show wasn't bad and the cameo's outshined Usher. Great set list
- The commercials this year weren't extremely funny, but also weren't obnoxiously bad. I'm fine with that.

So without further ado, congratulations on another one Chiefs' fans. First dynasty in 20 years. Call it what it is.

But now, the glory days are over. Chiefs don't pick up any more band wagon fans from here. There will be less kids buying Mahomes' jersey simply because he's the best at the position right now. This is where the Chiefs move from the NFL's sweethearts to the most hated team in the league. Mahomes' antics this year and the constant winning is changing the NFL fan's impression of the Chiefs. Can't wait for the first [insert bogus catch word]-gate to explain away why they keep winning. It will happen.

It's been cathartic seeing the dialog change this year. For years my friends and colleagues have praised Mahomes, Reid, and the Chiefs. The past few months now it's, "the Chiefs are whiners & crybabies". Everyone I knew was rooting against them throughout the playoffs. Heck you can see it in the GTZ poll above.

You'll have less meaningful conversations about your team because people won't be realistic about it. If there is any -gate type stories, no one will believe your side because it's easier to believe a half truth/lie from a journalist looking to make a splash because they already hate your team. Your team/QB will be the biggest whiners. You'll have the worst fans. The refs will cater to you always. The hate train is coming. You may find it easier to say little and take solace in the fact that your team is making everyone around you so mad. The hate will drive the Chiefs to want to win even more. Let your team speak for itself.

I say this all from experience as a fan of the last dynasty we witnessed. Welcome.

The Chiefs were already the most hated team in the NFL, but unlike the Patriots they have a coach and qb who has no reason to be hated on other than they win. Maybe with Mahomes his family. I get the Chiefs fatigue. I'd be tired of them too if I wasn't a long time fan. Also I'm embracing the dark side and everytime they show t-swift it brings me joy inside knowing it pisses off Chiefs haters.

The turning point, to me, was the insanely random Greenlaw injury. He was #1 shadow for Kelce and kept him in check until he got hurt. At the point of injury, Kelce had 1 catch for 1 yard. The second he got hurt, you can tell they exploited the injury and back up linebacker who had to cover him. He went from 1 rec/1yd in first half to 9/93 overall. If Greenlaw plays, the 49ers win.

I also didn't like the 3rd and 4 call for SF in OT when they were on I think like the 12. They had the ball for over 7+ minutes at that point, and you can see the D-line was gassed. They should have ran it to the left behind Trent/Kyle/Kittle blocking down field.

As a SF fan, they should be back. They are returning almost everyone from this year (except Young, who they might resign, and who knows about the Greenlaw injury). As of right now, they are the favorite for Super Bowl 59.

I enjoy games decided by what goes wrong more so than what goes right. I especially love / hate when the coaches or game plans strongly affect the result. Dudes like Reid have that big game mind- but he went through his trials to get here. Shanahan is unfortunately the loser of two overtime / momentum shift loses.

As obnoxious as this may come off, I love this more than anything. The first bulletin board material for the 2024-25 Chiefs. Not even 24 hours after winning the SB, the champs can keep playing that underdog role.

Will be interesting to see what the offseason brings. The Chief's pretty much can't sign Jones and Sneed. Sneed, despite being snubbed all-pro, arguably had the best season of any corner. Only allowed 2 50+ yard games and 0 TD's during the season while largely shadowing Jefferson, Hill, Diggs, Adams (x2), Chase, Moore, Allen (x2), Brown, St Brown, and Ridley. Chief's secondary was scary good this year.

The draft will be fun. Many QB's, 2 darn near locks at perennial pro bowlers in Harrison and Alt. Looks to be pretty deep.

Chief's signed "punt god" Matt Araiza after he apparently proved his innocence. Great signing! Townsend wants to be the highest paid punter. This guy averaged almost 52 yards per punt in college, former Ray Guy award winner, and hit an 82 yard punt in preseason for the Bills before getting cut due to the accusations. I have a feeling this was Toub all the way.

Man, the Broncos cutting Wilson... what a disaster. $80M+ In dead money over the next 2 seasons. That's roughly 20% of their cap for a player that will never play for them again. They gave up 2 starters, 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks to get him. Then they gave up another first and second to hire the coach that cut Wilson. I don't normally call for peoples jobs, but how nobody got fired over this is beyond me. Imagine giving up 3 firsts and 3 seconds in 3 years. Insanity.

Russ at least should come cheap since the Broncos are going to pay him $35-40M next season. He really has no reason not to play for the vet min, and he darn sure better be motivated if he wants to stay a starter.

If I was a QB needy team I'd kick the tires on Russ, then draft a QB like Spencer Rattler in the 2nd or 3rd, and finally take the money you saved by not paying big QB money to sign 2-3 free agents.

Russ a Steeler and Kirk a Falcon. Free agents flying fast. Chiefs resigned Jones to a fat contract through wizardry only accounting for $7M against the cap this year. Really interested to hear Cousins contract. He's made so much money already.

Wow! Looks like another great deal for Kirk! He's a solid qb, so not terrible for Atlanta. Better than the Giants paying that kind of money to Daniel Jones. I've said Cousins is a more aggressive thus more mistake prone Alex Smith. He can win that division, but they need to take a massive step forward as a team to contend for the SB.

Henry was 2nd, 2nd, 9th, 1st, 1st in rushing yards in the past five years. The Titans' o-line in 2023 was one of the worst. It's been bad for a few years at least.

Ravens on the otherhand had a top 5-10 o-line. I think he'll do just fine there. Even so, his stats probably take a hit with all the Lamar scrambles and the fact that he's now "past his prime" as far as the NFL is concerned.

I've mostly been concerned about what would happen this off-season to support Justin Herbert. He's clearly the guy to build a team around but it seems the Chargers are basically going for a full reboot of the offense. Consistency is not something he's had much of and a new coach, approach, removal of key play makers...doesn't look great on paper. I don't expect much in 2024 but 2025 is likely going to be pretty good.

They were/are in salary cap hell. They had to do something drastic to get under the cap. Harbaugh is likely going to try to establish a defense based team with a more run heavy offense.

Oof, another offseason. Rashee Rice racing on highways, well bumper cars anyways. His Covette and rented Lamborghini SUV (why is this a thing?) damaged. Leaves both to get the heck out of dodge with his homies while allegedly hiding firearms. Good things to come.

Diggs traded to the Texans for a costly amount... for the Bills. They are eating $31M of his salary and giving up 2 picks to get rid of him and receiving a 2025 2nd. Diggs the next AB?

5 Qb's going in the top 15 of the draft?

XFL Influencing the NFL with the new kickoff rule. Way to go Vince!

New extension of sales tax voted down by Jackson County. Chief's brass have stated they aren't afraid to move. It was a mess of a "plan" anyways with being tied to moving the Royals. Kudos for voting it down. We'll see what happens.

Looking forward to the draft.

QB Salaries are destroying FA and trade values. One of the best corners last year going for a 3rd in next year's draft and peanuts. I wonder at what point does a team trade off a top qb for a cheap rookie to grow their team?

This offseason can end anytime now. wry smile

Yep, I have a few relatives coming into town, and some friends coming over. Pizza, dips, an assortment of beverages, as is tradition. Patriots picking at 3 I was hoping Jayden Daniels would fall to us. Not interested in Drake Maye....maybe Nix. If I had it my way, I'd have said grab a QB in FA like Cousins, heck, even Fields, and draft Marvin Harrison Jr....but that's why I'm behind a computer screen and not in the draft room.

I actually thought that for the Pats too, then take Spencer Rattler in the second or third. They could sign Ryan Tanehill for Spencer to sit behind for a year to learn so he doesn't get exposed right away and build up the team around him.

I think there's a decent chance 6 qb's go in the first. I'm really looking forward to this year's draft despite KC drafting last, a problem I'll take every year lol. I think Veach trades up again to around 20 to get one of his "first round graded talents". I'd like them to trade back and get more picks though.

Definitely, as a Lions fan and multiple fantasy dynasty leagues haha. I'm cool with whatever the Lions do this year. They had an amazing draft last season, got some solid FAs for holes we had, and secured St Brown and Sewell for a long time, so I am pretty happy. We need some defensive pieces, so we will see. I wouldn't mind another decent WR as well.

For months me, my wife, and a couple...couple friends (only one of us is a true Lions fan, but we all pull for them) were seriously considering going to the NFL draft in person, but not a lot of details of the actual event were available at the time. We live just over an hour and a half away from Detroit. As time went on and people tried to secure the time off for work, the prices of course skyrocketed, and getting a hotel or BnB nearby was less and less likely. Those plans just fell through last month. Now that all of the details are out, it sounds like it would have a blast. We regret not solidifying the trip sooner.

I did really enjoy the Bills Mafia reaction video to the trade. So there's that.

Edit: Spencer Rattler in a good situation. I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up the best QB this draft if things fall in place.
