1) Have you ever watched America's Funniest Videos and wonder why the winning video is almost NEVER funny AT ALL?? We were watching some older episodes on Disney Plus and the final 3 videos are always stupid and not funny, and the worst one ALWAYS wins.. WTF..
2) How have cereal bags NOT been made with zip lock technology??
3) They need to make a container that can keep to-go french fries from getting soggy...
You are 100% wrong about everything on this issue. You're a moron and should rethink your life choices.
That's not my statement to you, but that's the attitude you project when you say you understand but the other side is being irrational, and that your way of thinking is obviously right.
When you start your argument with an attack on people's strongly held beliefs, they stop listening. Period. Doesn't matter who is right at that point.
John's point is that the way you are trying to argue the issue is exactly what the pro-choice argument has been for decades and it just doesn't work on religious pro lifers. So a new strategy is needed if they want to make any headway.
Much like the hard right are currently strategizing after their losses on Tuesday on how to make their message more palatable.
I'm not under some goofy impression that my opinion is going to change anybody's minds if they feel abortion is the same as murdering a baby. That was never my point. I'm not TRYING to make anybody believe me. I’m not a politician or activist over here. I completely understand the point John was making that me bluntly stating my opinion isn't going to "work" on pro-lifers -- I literally never disputed that fact.
My point is that attempting a new "strategy" doesn't work -- because it historically never has -- and I'm over pretending that there's some magical new approach that will suddenly change the religious right's opinions on this matter. That's a fairytale. Again, the belief that women should be allowed to make their own decisions will remove 0 human rights from anybody, whereas the stance that "every fetus is a life given by God and should be protected as such" will effect people's lives and livelihoods. It is not the "same" just because both stances are unwavering despite your suggestion that it is.
I'm sorry I have a hard opinion on this as formed by my life experiences -- but that's all it is: an opinion. I know not everybody is going to agree with me and I was never trying to make that the case. I've just seen how this garbage affects people on a human level past a political campaign and am entirely over trying to reason over something that takes personal autonomy away. Super sorry if that's tough for people, but I mean no ill will.
My bad for bringing up the topic at hand, I take fault for going there. I'm a real Mcbutt-hole.
Also, it's insane to me that my 6 year old started wrestling this week. At practice and I'm just amazed because they never did that crap for us growing up (at least I don't think so, we were poor and didn't know any better).

Wrestling and boxing were great for me during the ol' school years. Keep that 6 year old at it, hopefully they grow to love it. So satisfying getting some wins under your belt back at that age.
> EA needs to farm out a 2d remake with updated rosters. Easy $20.
... I was wondering if they had already done this, but nope - EA released "NHL 94 Rewind" for PS4 and Xbone back in 2020, which was the old Genesis game with updated rosters.
I do wonder why they never did the same with 96. Rights issues? Too difficult to hack? Who knows. I don't think there's even any fan-made roster update hacks for 96 out there.

I don’t know why I always preferred 96 tbh. I’m not even sure if there were any mechanic changes between those old NHL games. But 96 will always be a top 10 game for me.
Which makes it weirder that no one has been able to make a roster hack. People seem to LOVE that game. Guess not enough Genesis nerds like it though. :p
'94 was the first one I owned. The only thing I wished they kept was smashing the glass with an errant slapshot. Otherwise '96 was my jam, as apparent by '97 and '98 being identical on SNES. (And 2002 on GBA)

Ohh yah I forgot about the smashing glass.
I actually just found a rom hack that makes NHL 96 wider -- so you see more of the rink at once without as much panning. I don't know if that'd have a huge effect on how much I enjoy the game but I think I may give it a try, just to see.
The OLED is supposedly an all around better picture, but is prone to burn in, and bad in rooms with lots of light (my family room is insanely bad with direct sunlight).
If all goes well, we'll move at some point, so I had to omit the OLED based on current room.
Also, we just dropped $3k on a washer/dryer, so saving money is prob smart.
I think at this point I'm torn between the 83" and 85". I may wait to see if the 98" gets a bigger price cut for Black Friday though. This whole "black friday month" crap is confusing and annoying.
Well... I guess everyone already forgot, but I mentioned a few years back that I don't actually live in Calexico; I live in Mexicali, the city across the border, at my old family home. (Hence the old "I live in South SoCal" and online regional issue comments I make once in a while. And I don't pay rent since the house is technically mine.) I asked Bill, he said it was fine.
But anyway. My entire collection and the things I sell are there, so when I cross the border, the ICE agents typically ask me what I'm bringing in from Mexico. I tell them exactly what's in the packages or envelopes, and I usually bring them all open so they can check them.
But the one time I figure it's safe enough to take a sealed envelope with CDs? That's the day I get an agent who asks me all sorts of questions. He asked me what was in the envelope (3DO CDs.). What is a 3DO (a gaming system from the 1990s, and he actually looked it up online?) What games I had in there (I tell him.) Who am I sending them to (@Porksta.) Why am I sending them (A trade - yes I didn't say I sold them for reasons I'll explain later.) What am I getting in exchange (DVDs that have games in them.) Where did I do the trade. GameTZ.
And that made him curious. What was the site, aren't I scared I'll get ripped off (No, I've dealt with the guy before, I've been here for over a decade) He finally decided to let me pass after holding me up for like five minutes.
And that might happen every time I cross. The lines to cross by foot are insanely slow, and usually by the time I get to an agent, they're too tired or bored to care much about what I'm bringing in with me. But since today was a holiday and there's no schoolkids holding up the line, the agent (who looked half my age) was probably bored enough to figure out why this old dude is crossing the border on a holiday at 5:20 AM.
As for why I told him it was a trade instead of a sale? Allegedly, if you're crossing the border for business reasons, you have to pay $20. But that's bullcrap. There's no such law for US citizens. It might apply to Mexican citizens who do business in the US for all I know but they can't really force me to pay. Since I don't want to deal with that crap I just say I'm sending things to friends in trades or gifts. It works most of the time.
I didn't see the aurora last night. But, just now I saw a line of Starlink satellites go by. I found a site that tracks when you can see them and sure enough there they were. It was a lot of moving white dots that passed through part of the night sky. They just fade out after a bit. There were a lot of them, I lost count. It was over after about 4 minutes.

This happened above my place a few days before Halloween. Got a call from my buddy who lives downstairs telling me to go outside. We were pretty confused for a bit haha
I typically think of DBZ when I think of the show, and Chichi is obviously presented as a much more mature woman than Bulma, it's weird when I see them point at each other and call the other one an Auntie-type after they got dissed by a younger woman, because the initial response is "haha yeah chichi's definitely got the Auntie-energy" but technically Bulma's got several years on her
Bulma is only four years older than Chichi and Goku.
She was supposedly 16 years old at the start of Dragon Ball. Goku and Chichi would've been 12. Which makes no sense since they look like pre-teens. I dunno.
Edit: Chichi's got that more mature thing going on because of how she was raised, and her own feelings about being a housewife. Yes, she's a badass and everything, one of the more powerful non-Ki using humans in the series thanks to her dad and her training, but IIRC she mostly likes to do housewife stuff and take care of her kids. So.
Ben and Bean - they need to be full sized cases since these have art. Thanks though! I still need to finish my inventory so I can see how many cases I need to get.
I just got a bunch more things so I'm gonna spend today working on that.

Are you strictly talking DVD or do you need Blu-Ray too? I had a bunch of Blu Rays that came in cases where they stacked the discs (mostly TV shows). This causes scratches so I bought a bunch of 4 and 6 disc Blu Ray cases from Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/256090880873
I ended up buying 3 orders of the 4 disc cases (multi-buy discount) and 1 order of the 6 disc cases. The guy was really cool and ended up sending me over 10 extra cases. He packed them well and they all arrived in good shape.
Not sure if this helps you or not but thought I'd share. It was so much cheaper than anything I had seen from online stores.

The ones from OMGcon would be full sized. We did a bunch of game-themed cases to put our program guides in. Have done Xbox style, ps2 style, bluray style.. if you need a lot, the board is looking to make room in the storage unit
I was listening to a video game soundtrack compilation. Music from Pokemon Colosseum was in there (the music from Pyrite Town). Brought me back almost 20 years. Played that game for much of the summer with a friend. Reminiscing about this is painful. But why? We had a great time. Why does nostalgia hurt so much?
I just wish our generation had more of our memories recorded. I had such an amazing experience in my adolescent years and prior, but 98% of it is only in my head. Those details get more and more jumbled over the years. Kids nowa days, their entire life is recoded.
There's a beauty of not having it all digital though either. Those are your memories, and how you chose (or not) to remember/cherish/anguish, all up to you and your brain.
That and, well some of the crap we did, I'm glad it's not recorded! Haha
Still, I can't help but live in the past more than I should. I miss the 90's!

I live WAY too much in the past than I should. Can't help it. Miss it so much. Just recalled a cold snowy day where my cousin and I were drinking milkshakes outside. We were freezing, and hiding behind garbage cans because we didn't want his brother to feel bad that he didn't have a milkshake.
You're right that there's a certain beauty to not trying to capture every moment on camera. Live in the moment. I think that trying to capture a moment to save for later takes away from the experience of the moment.
There's also something different about having a special spot to video from that is different than most others.
If you've got side-stage access, then you can get some unique footage. I get that.
But when there is a crowd of thousands waving their arms and hundreds of them holding up video cameras to get average footage and average sound that looks like 100 other people's average video and average sound that'll be on YouTube the next day anyhow, then it might make more sense to just enjoy the moment and watch...
My wife and I just got back from two weeks on Kauai. We have a timeshare in Princeville, so this was at least the 12th time we've been there. Except for special pictures like one or both of us doing something or seeing something unique to the current trip (like we were at Poipu when several turtles came ashore), I stopped using a camera years ago. On the other hand, almost every time I looked at my wife, she had her phone in front of her face taking a picture or video. At one point she even commented on how many times we have photographed or taken video of a particular spot and because of the weather we probably have better shots from a previous trip. When I got home and took her phone to transfer the files to the computer for editing, there were over 700 files. Several years ago, after a vacation, I would put the pictures into a digital photo frame for us to enjoy, but it really wasn't worth the effort.
Be honest with yourself, admit you'll never watch it, and delete your video of the Disney fireworks display.
> Be honest with yourself, admit you'll never watch it, and delete your video of the

haha, we all have 'em, and will never watch them ...
What I do appreciate more than anything though, is having pics/videos of the kids growing up. We have them displayed on smart devices / TVs and it's so awesome revisiting kid pics on a regular basis just to see how much they've grown in such a short time.
Whenever I go to shows, I usually take at least a couple 15-30 second videos of songs that I particularly enjoy, just to have that moment saved to revisit later. I don't really care if the quality is great or anything like that, as long as I can watch the video and get "transported" back to that moment so to speak. They never show up on YouTube or anything -- at most one will be posted to my Instagram story so my friends can see and that's it.
It is sort of annoying when folks are clearly only at the show as a way to gloat about an experience on social media though -- recoding every song, holding their phone in front of their face more than actually enjoying the performance they paid to see. But alas, that's the age we live in.
I actually regret not recording more stuff back in the day. I think back to all the Warped Tours I went to and wish I had videos of some of those sets now. Although I’ve recorded a ton of bands in the last three years, I still enjoy the shows at the same time, and it’s great going back and watching them again. The sound and video quality are often pretty good too. Phone cameras have come a long way. I do have a fair number of views on my YouTube channel, but I didn’t post there for clout. I was using it as a way of saving my concert videos in one place and making them accessible for me, and other people happened to appreciate it too, so that was cool. I’ve actually had some of the bands themselves reach out and thank me for recording their sets.

I'm still going through old photo albums, scanning pictures that have meaning to me. I definitely agree with Tony that many of the old photos are worthless. Vacation pictures of sights and such... I just flip past them. People in pictures are more often worth saving for sure. Sometimes I save places I used to live as well and I have some connection to that. Also, because I barely remember it otherwise.
I'm also noticing the complete lack of pictures I have for certain people and times in my life too though. There can be too many pictures but also too few.
My grandmother traveled extensively and had 7-8 slide carousels full of her trips to Europe, The Holy Land, etc. When she died, I borrowed a friend's slide scanner and went through each of them. I only scanned and kept the pictures of her, Dad, and other family.
We make yearly scrapbooks through snapfish.. we have hundreds of photos that we narrow down to about 100 or so and put it in a book.. makes it easier to not have all those heavy ass photo albums...
Woke up this morning, signed onto work, fiance took the dog out into the yard to let her poop and pee. I hear "oh my god, get away from it" so I grab the leash thinking the dog is trying to get a squirrel or rabbit. I go out there and... nope, big old 8 point buck (at least I think 8... it was big) dead as hell in the fenced in yard. Animal control is called to cart the poor boy outta here but they send one dude in an SUV, so I offered to give the guy some help because he was struggling. A double struggle later, we get him in what is essentially this dude's trunk. Felt terrible for the goofily departed.
Animal control guy thinks he got hit by a car and somehow leaped the fence... I'm pretty sure the sky trumpets I was hearing last week dropped him there. Aliens.
So THAT'S what my brother and them saw some time awhile back.... Starlink satellites... Dunno if he and them ever figured it out, but I sure did point him in that direction cause I think he was giving me some conspiracy theory stuff...

It was pretty wild to see for the 10 minutes that preceded that fateful Google search. When my pal called me it was "dude you need to come out here, there are UFOs..."
Awhile back I got a bunch of pairs of the same exact sock. After they're washed I throw them all in a drawer. No need to sort them or look for pairs. Problem solved.
My brother was always talking about getting these hot dogs from the deli at Walmart for lunch during the week... $1.50 each... they're Nathan's Famous hot dogs... I saw some in the hot food section of the Walmart deli today and thought "Well he said they're damn good, so let's see how they are."
I grabbed 2 of them. They're actually good. didn't even bother to add ketchup, mustard, and such to them.
At Sam's you get a trough of pop to go with it for the same price.
Speaking of Walmart deli, at my local Walmart you can get a white meat chicken dinner for $4.97. It comes with a wing, a breast and a side. Good value. Alternatively you can buy a breast for $1.98, a wing for $1.48, and a side for $.98. Why do places do this? It happens far more often than it should. Is it a test to see how stupid or lazy the general population is?
> First usb-c, now rcs, finally... Way to be slightly less dicks Apple.
I wouldn't give TOO much credit to Apple here. They were pretty much forced to do USB-C by the EU Commission.
As far as RCS, there are two current theories (and both are probably somewhat true):
1. Google has been doing some advertising talking about how outdated Apple is because iMessage has to fall back to old SMS instead of RCS. Apple users don't like to hear that their stuff is outdated. For a while, Apple users would just go "Well, Android users without iMessage should just switch to Apple devices", but that is eventually growing old. People are starting to catch on that when an Apple users sends a video or image to an Android user, it looks like crap because of APPLE'S side, not the Android side. So I think this "Apple is outdated" advertising is working some. Supporting RCS allows Apple users to still keep using iMessage all they want and feel superior as long as they are talking to other Apple devices -- without being subject to the "you are outdated" talk when they do send to non-Apple users.
2. After just being forced to use USB-C, they may be trying to stay ahead of future regulations so that they don't seem forced into anything again. Granted, it is unlikely the EU would force RCS, but it still gets them ahead of potential future regulations that might somewhere else (like the USA).
So, again, I wouldn't give too much credit or thanks to Apple here. They still want to be as proprietary as possible (i.e. "dicks").

That's pretty much what I have done, but I have two distinct sets of socks: one is for work, the other is for everything else. They're easy to tell apart.
To each their own, but I'm not going to risk my job when traffic made me late for lunch. What about dinner? I can't get a frozen pizza, or any type of take out after working a fourteen hour shift? Shane on me for being "lazy"
They are heavy duty merino wool socks. They are durable and breathable and are great with my steel-toe boots at work. I'm on my feet for 12 hours a night, so having good socks is very important for me.
That's all I wear. They have always lasted way longer than any other socks I've owned. Whenever I do eventually get holes in them, they've always replaced them for free, so I've been a very happy customer.
-Laundry needs to be switched over. But I don’t want to. -My Facebook reels are basically all clips from the old and new version of Whose Line is it Anyway?, and it’s glorious. -I’ve made 4 deals this year on this site. Maybe choosing better words would be been beneficial, but no regrets. -I’ve lost almost 100 lbs. since March or so. It’s the best movie ever made. Everyone should have seen it by now. -Needing to poop is basically an emergency situation now. Byeeeeee.
My drying machine door keeps popping open mid operation. Every now and then clothes fall out onto the floor. More often than not however the door is still shut but the clothes tapped the door hard enough to trigger the switch that makes it think it's been opened. Either way the machine stopped and I have to come back to press the button to start the machine..
This is really annoying bc it ends up taking a lot longer to dry my clothes than it normally would. I can't just set it and come back when they're finished drying, I have to return to the machine multiple times, and bc I'm using my phone or w/e in the meantime there is a lot of time wasted where the machine is not running and I didn't come back to check on it yet.
Is there is a hack for this? I've actually been jamming snow shovel against the door but it helps only somewhat. The shovel is not heavy enough or doesn't have enough traction on the floor.
The washing machine has a knob that fastens the door shut, if only the drying machine had this as well...

It sounds irritating that when someone at work is acting like a complete >'fill in with your choice of words'< that you have to "acceptably" call them out on it. Why can't things like this be normal? If someone is acting like a _, didn't they practically ask to be told off? Ugh.
Whose Line is it anyway? Wow. Haven't watched that in ages. Pretty entertaining.
And yeah, Princess Bride is great. Haven't seen it in a while.
Hinges are fine. It's the latch. It's like it's barely keeping on. It feels secure when you close it and you can feel the latch grabbing the door when you do. So I always assume there is nothing wrong with it, but apparently that's not enough to withstand 30+ minutes of clothes tumbling around inside.
And when I put it that way, it really ought not to be that way. So there is obviously something wrong with it. Maybe a repair or part replacement is possible.
It's kind of like a fridge door w barely any suction. Comes right open. Doesn't seem like a big issue, until one day you think it was left slightly open and nobody noticed.

> Duct tape? Not a convenient fix, because you'd need to do it each time, but maybe
> it would hold?
I had considered mailing tape but am afraid of damaging the enamel on the door or the machine. But I am still considering it. I'm mad as hell about this and something needs to be done.
I should maybe try to find the mechanism in the door and poke around, maybe I can pop something in place. But maybe there is none and it's just magnets holding the door closed. Would explain why it doesn't stay closed very well, and why there isn't really any sound it makes when it closes, just a gentle thump when the door presses against the machine. you don't hear any mechanism inside, like a lock or a latch.
Oh, that reminds me. I had the idea to put velcro mounts on the door. But you gave me another idea-- I can stick magnets to the door. Either should be easy to find at a hardware store. Although, this would technically increase the gap between the door and the machine and therefore might cause the door sensor to trigger even more easily. It depends. We'll see!
Look for the latching mechanism. If you google the make/model of the dryer and "door latch" you can likely find a place to buy it and a YouTube video on how to replace it.
YouTube is very helpful for troubleshooting and fixing most things. Find a video or three, read for positive comments, and watch the best one. Decide if you can take that on.

Absolutely! I fall into the category of, I know enough to be dangerous already. I remodeled three bedrooms and a bathroom at my old house. Had to re-texture a ceiling after removing popcorn. Never did it before but you tube was super helpful.

Bizarre. But kind of funny. Made me smirk. Thanks for that. Been having not such a great day. Gave me a slight humor boost.
"The court suspended Blakeslee for one year, with six months stayed, for the gross act, and said his conduct “adversely reflects on his fitness to practice law.”
Surveillance video shows Blakeslee driving by the parking lot, slowing down, turning around and passing it a second time. He then tosses the poopy can out of his car and drives off to the courthouse.
A witness saw Blakeslee throw the can and discovered its contents. She filed a report with Cambridge police.
Blakeslee eventually pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and littering, and paid $248 in fines and court costs, according to Court News Ohio.
At his disciplinary hearing this week, Blakeslee denied that he intentionally chose the center as the target for his poop-filled Pringles can."

> Absolutely! I fall into the category of, I know enough to be dangerous already. I remodeled three bedrooms and a bathroom at my old house. Had to re-texture a ceiling after removing popcorn. Never did it before but you tube was super helpful.
>
I thought I knew more than enough to not be dangerous today, and I still managed to have problems. I needed to replace the power window switch on my 2003 Suzuki. My stepfather was a mechanic and he taught me a lot about all sorts of repairs to cars. I looked at a YouTube video and this repair should have been an extremely simple exchange of switch assemblies and wire harness connections. I couldn't find my exact vehicle in the salvage yard, however the switches on a 2006 looked identical although the assembly was a different size. The YT video showed putting a flat lever under the front of the switch assembly to push back the spring to pop the assembly out. When it came out, there was a spring on the front and a fragile clip on the back. I also saw that the switches were in cartridges that could be easily removed from the assembly. When I put the lever under the front end of the assembly in my car, I heard something break. Even though the YouTube video showed the spring on the front, on my car it was on the back. I had broken the fragile plastic clip at the front. I don't recall if the YT video said it was specific to my 2003, but clearly the YTer must have been demonstrating with a different year vehicle. I easily exchanged the switch cartridges and reinstalled the assembly in my car, but now when I pull up on the switch to close the window, the entire assembly comes up out of the door. I may have to glue it down or something.
I miss the 90s. Things seemed calmer then than they are now. These days, alot of people are on edge. There's a certain calmness/simplicity that was around in the 90s that simply isn't here now.

You like that time because it is within your life's memory. Almost everyone's early days were "the good old days". Your grandparents will probably tell you the 50s were the best time of their lives.
I heard a quote the other day that kind of sums up the experience. This is a paraphrase: "None of us is living in the world we were prepared to live in."
The world moves faster every year. New inventions save time, but then you don't have that time to rest and relax because you are expected to do more.
An article in our local paper this summer said that one of the hottest business opportunities of the last few years is the car wash. This seems counterintuitive given how the media also states that most people are complaining about high inflation and seem to believe that "the economy" is bad. One would think that paying to have a clean vehicle would be one of the first expenses people would cut, but our area has seen several new car washes open in the last few years.

You make good points.
I will say though that there's a certain non calmness/craziness currently around that simply wasn't there in the 90s. And I don't think it has to do with "the good old days" being memorable. Sure there were some nutty stuff in the 90s too, but I feel that there's a certain lack of calm these days/this decade, as if there's a lot of tension in the world.

Yeah. Those vape shops keep popping up. There was this local newsstand that's been around for a long time. They closed. What's there now? A smoke shop. Less than 2 blocks away from there, another one opened. And on the same block, across the street, yet another one.

There always has been, most people were just more shielded from it when they were kids.
Lots of adults in the 90s were scared that Pokemon and Magic the Gathering were tools of Satan, and that violent video games were poisoning kids minds and turning them into future real life murderers.
Lots of adults in the 70s and 80s believed the same things about Dungeons and Dragons, and some were even convinced that a pack of regular playing cards or a pair of dice would lead to irrevocable gambling habits and ruination of your soul.
In the 50s and 60s, my understanding is that commies were hiding everywhere, constantly trying to infiltrate American society and and they were something to be fought and feared.
Ask your parents what caused them the most worries when you were growing up, and I bet the answer will be pretty similar... what kind of world were you (and your siblings if you have any) growing up in?
What bothers me is the fact that my city has four big Wal-Mart centers, not to mention two little Wal-Mart grocery stores, yet only has two post offices. Two for a city with nearly 160,000 people!

That's sad. If a place has a kiosk, it should be user friendly. I don't understand why some of these self service machines are not intuitive. What's funny though, is the maker of that machine probably thought it made perfect sense.

Weed shops are legal here now, so there are a ton of them popping up all over. It's wild. Almost all of them paint the outside of the building black. Like, I saw two businesses that were empty that suddenly were painted black and my wife and I were like "Looks like two more weed shops." Sure enough -- the signs went up soon after!
> The newer car washes are automated and have confusing kiosks for paying. I tried

A few years ago we gave all of our employees a 1-year unlimited car wash subscription for Mr. Carwash. Most of them (including me) seem to like it. We've renewed it every year since. 👍
I definitely go much more often now that it is free/unlimited. I used to use a manual thing where you put quarters in still.. But now it is all auto since it is free!

Yeah something my dad told me ages ago always stuck with me (paraphrasing) - people aren’t nostalgic for the past, they’re nostalgic for their own youth
Sometimes I think I hear lyrics differently from what I read them... such "Move Along" All American Rejects
"All you got to keep is strong, move along, move along... even when your heart is gone..."
and "Blinded by the Light" Manfred Mann's Earth Band
"Blinded by the light, Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night" sounds more like "Blinded by the light, Revved up like a douche, another runner in the night" on the radio.
Several years ago, I was shocked to learn that Bruce Springsteen wrote "Blinded by the Light". The Manfred Mann's Earth Band version of that song is all I'd ever known growing up and such.
Random thought... Having sweaty hands sucks! Have had hyperhydrosis my whole life. As I got into my 30s, taking on leadership roles, consulting and traveling... Shaking hands with C levels and getting the look after they got a handful of sweat was/is the most embarrassing thing ever in the professional space.
Covid was a damn miracle for me because we either stopped shaking, or moved to fist bumps. Yet that's all passing and we're reverting back to traditional ways.
Have a big meeting today and tomorrow with a lot of colleagues that I've not yet met in person. It's the silliest thing (unless you've lived it) to get anxious and embarrassed over.
Thankfully, after many years of trying various meds, I found one that works for a few hours at a time. Hoping it doesn't fail me tofay!
I had really hoped that not shaking hands would stick with everyone, but nope. Also, if you have sick symptoms, stay home! My wife and I have always been that way so it was nice when (most) people finally started to respect that. But that's already gone out the window.
Walking up the stairs a stabbing pain in my knee. Ligament tweaked. Hobbled up the remaining steps. Put on a knee brace to get around. Getting old sucks.
December is the first month I've been able to pay my rent on time, pay off the Auto Loan, and catch my bills up since I started my new job near the end of August.
I've never seen white licorice sticks. I've seen strawberry, chocolate, black, other colors, but never white, which I guess could be vanilla or coconut.
I’m always baffled that this is even a thing - why not have to sign for the package, and if you’re not home (even though you should be able to set a delivery time when you ARE) , pick it up from nearest PO or like some kind of delivery station or something
Well... this was FedEx... TYPICALLY, the driver leaves it at the lease office, but this must have been a different driver. USPS and FedEx (the regular driver anyways) leave packages at the lease office. UPS and Amazon (and probably any other delivery service I can/can't think of) leave at the door or leave it where it shouldn't be left (I've seen Amazon toss and go and I've had UPS packages for other residents in the building dropped off at my door and I had to go deliver them myself or take to lease office).
I don't have issue with USPS since they have to leave mail at the mailboxes location and if the packages don't fit or envelopes say "DO NOT BEND," they leave with the lease office. So, what I have done last night while waiting for the officer to get my report, I set up account on FedEx for future deliveries to make it so I can pick them up at a secure location. Amazon I'm going to make sure I have them delivered to a secure location like a nearby Amazon Locker. This way I can get my packages when I am able to (which is Sat/Sun) due to my work schedule and commute.
I did go to lease office this morning, told them what happened... I just got back home so I'm filling out a form and they're going to check the videos to see if the cameras caught anything.
I ordered 2 Official PS4 Dual Shock controllers off Walmart.com for my nephew as his mom was telling me he needed a new one. I did report it stolen to the police, to the lease office this morning, and notified Fedex and Walmart the package was missing. Walmart says they won't do anything for 48 hours because it's "normal" for delivery drivers to mark delivered and actually deliver within 48 hours of marking delivered.
Lease office is going to have their IT/Courtesy Officer review the camera footage to see if there's anything that could useful to finding the thief.
No, I wasn't sure we were allowed to have Ring cams on our apartment doors, but I noticed a couple of neighbors with them when I had to personally deliver their packages left at my door, so I might actually do that, but at the same time I probably don't need to do that since I have future package deliveries set up for secure locations now... or set up to let me know I have a package on the way to me and I can re-route it somewhere more secure.
I mean, technically speaking, it’s not wrong though. Doesn’t mean you, personally, are an incapable gun owner — so no need to jump on the defensive. But just about any statistics back that video up, as corny as it is.
Regardless, I think the point is that “thoughts and prayers” do nothing when faced with such tragedies and only some attempt at remedying the situation will change anything for the better.
Anyhow my refrigerator is making a wild noise that I need to get to the bottom of. Random thoughts, and all.
I think thoughts and prayers are perfectly acceptable for people who have no viable way to affect the situation themselves.
It just makes me angry when politicians, the very people who write laws and make policy, use "thoughts and prayers" as an alternative to any meaningful action on a problematic issue.
This guy came up to my bar a few weeks ago who had a gun in his pocket, I didn't notice it but other employees did and the manager came and whispered in my ear that he had a gun. We have a sign on the door that says no firearms and she wanted me to do her job and kick him out so ok I guess. I told him he had to put his firearm in his car and he yelled "who'd going to protect you in the war," went and put in his car, then ranted about the illuminati and kept asking about my religious beliefs for an hour and left no tip.
There are a lot of things that can go wrong in this scenario, even if the person who has the gun is being responsible. The business has the right to tell the customer to keep that outside of the building.
Technically, if you're in a bar and you're drinking (or even not drinking), you shouldn't be in possession of a firearm... But hey, let the adage "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" occur.
I imagine it is a crime anywhere if you drink while armed. Here in VA you can carry all you want, but once you sip some alcohol its a felony (I believe).
I don't have a strong opinion on whether the guy should have a firearm or not. Didn't really feel threatened by him, he probably would've been on my side in the unlikely scenario that someone decided to shoot up my workplace. I personally don't own one because I don't have any need or desire to, but anyone can in Arizona. You can't buy it from a store if you have a felony but there's zero paperwork required from a private seller. Don't think there's a way to get rid of all guns because there are already so many guns. And maybe it's different in Europe or whatever but I'd like to have the right to have a gun if the police can have guns
> I imagine it is a crime anywhere if you drink while armed. Here in VA you can carry
> all you want, but once you sip some alcohol its a felony (I believe).
You'd think so, but that would be too logical and, apparently, infringe on 2nd Amendment rights.
Only FOUR states have a law saying that you cannot consume any alcohol while carrying a gun. (Although there are more states that ban consuming AND being under the influence, which can confuse things a bit, but they probably just mean consume at all -- hopefully.)
Then a bunch say that you can't be "under the influence" (and define what level of alcohol that is, but it isn't just above-0). So, again, in those, you can likely drink and carry as long as you don't reach some limit.
Then like a dozen states don't address it at all -- which means that it is not illegal to drink and carry or even to be DRUNK and carry.
> Edit: Google says it’s like Twitter? Didn’t really dig any deeper than that.
Yah it’s pretty much a new Twitter that’s far less of a “wild west” with all the problems Musk is causing for that site.
This is a quote I found: “ Bluesky was described in 2021 as an initiative to develop a decentralized social network protocol, in which multiple social networks, each with its own systems of curation and moderation, interact with other social networks through an open standard.” So ultimately: you “follow” topics that interest you and interact with others in that general bubble. Very much Twitter-like, but seems a lot smoother.
It’s in beta but a roll out is coming eventually, so folks need an invite code to sign up. Like ben said, it is pretty quiet there for now, but still plenty of folks to follow. I use it mostly for CBR/comic related stuff.
Fudging hate media that doesn't allow you to skip to the main menu. This isn't the 1980's, I'm aware of stuff coming out. Don't shill your stupid crap I'm not interested in.

Mercari is such a joke to sell on. I hadn't listed anything in a while so I put up several items last night. I had one item up for $125. I immediately got am offer of $80. When I said no they replied "*sad objection sounds*". I had another item up for 200 and was sent a 100 offer. Site really is a joke for selling anything.

Those scam listings pop up all the time. "First one to text me at xxx-xxx-xxxx will get this free" or "my child died in a wreck and I am pricing this cheap so I don't have to look at it anymore." They are always from 0 fb sellers.
You can certainly find some good deals on there if you watch regularly. However selling is another story. If you have something fairly uncommon and it's the only one listed, you might have some luck. But most of the time you only get terrible offers for like 50% off.
I got to the point with CL and FBM that I put a line in my ads saying I would ignore low ball offers and messages that simply ask "do you still have this?".
Turned scoring on for a bit. Read through a few topics. Hated seeing the plussed and negs so I turned scoring back off. I like it so much better without scoring. I wish I could get scoring turned off hard coded onto my profile so I never have to deal with it again.
> I got to the point with CL and FBM that I put a line in my ads saying I would ignore

I did once had someone asking me on CL why I was pricing something so good 😂. I think they added that I could get more.
(It was a set of adjustable 20lb dumbbells. Needed to declutter and they weren't being used much, so I listed them at $10, which was apparently a steal of a price. Several people wanted the set. The buyer showed up on a skateboard and put the weights into his backpack. Then skateboarded away.)

For CL and FBM sales,I have multiple stories of people wanting a much better deal. Our church had an old slate pool table that they said to just give away. I offered it for free, but it had to be moved out of the church basement without help from us. I had people ask if I could deliver it. I listed an item for $10 and had people ask if I would deliver it 20 miles away.
Some of them try the hustle of "so it was $(10 bucks lower than the agreed price)" once they meet you, or say "I only have $X on me" despite having agreed to the higher price.
That's why I always insisted on meeting at Walmart. I can tell them to go inside and buy something small on their card and get cash back so they can pay the full amount. And then I leave as soon as they go inside, and block them on FB because I don't want to deal with someone who tried to pull a fast one on me.
Haven't sold on FB/CL in years because that kind of behavior was constant. Just not worth it.

As someone who used to have a full sized pool table, it's taking advantage to ask for that monster to be delivered. $10 is a fantastic deal. Yes, it's super heavy and bulky. But for that price, the buyer should figure out how to get it. Or at the least offer a nice incentive to have it delivered.

But if you wanted to sell the item, and they were willing to go inside Walmart to get cash back, notwithstanding that they tried to pull a fast one on you, wouldn't you rather just sell the item and get it over with?
One time, I sold a game to a guy on Facebook Marketplace. He drove up to where we were meeting and said, "Sorry, I only have ($5 less than we had agreed upon)," so I just walked away. Then, he shouted at me "Wait! I found $5!" Sure you did...=)

I don't understand why people are that way. Generally speaking you are getting a deal anyways, why risk pissing off the wrong person?
I personally know two people who got ripped off through online initiated transactions that found the scammers home address and confronted them at their home. While not smart both were refunded with little/no resistance, and I'm guessing the scammers got in a good amount of trouble for it from their family for allowing it to escalate. One was a husband who's wife must of knew about it as she immediately gave them the cash difference and apologized for her husband('s scumbaggery).
I haven't sold much of anything in quite a few years, but *knock on wood* I've generally had really good luck with Craigslist. I only recall getting less than the asking price one time on a meet-up, and that was understandable as they assumed a piece of furniture/art was in better condition than I advertised. Even that was only a small percent difference, like 15%, which was still higher than my target final selling point.
Would like to try to get dates again.... problem is... wasn't successful before... ever... don't think this time would be any different. Seems like my options are VERILY limited with my "status."

In the early days of CL, a guy had work got scammed out of a vintage car he had restored. The guy gave him a bank Cashier's Check. As far as I know, they never found the scammer.

I actually have... surprisingly, the rejections were more positive rejections... as in not personal, more they were already in a relationship with someone and thanked me for the invite.
Downside for me to do it IRL is only women I have encountered are at work. I'm very careful about that though because you never know what would happen.
My bank account is showing either one or two incoming Apple payments and I don’t know why, but I don’t like it. I’ll have to call the bank tomorrow and find out what’s going on.
Incoming as in you're getting money? Reminds me of the time I got $700 sent to my PayPal account from someone that meant to send it to a different Govey (their email is similar to mine). I reached out to them out of concern to make sure they meant to send it to someone else... the person supposed to receive it responds with a demanding attitude to send it back. No thanks for reaching out or any form of politeness... I looked them up... supposed to be some kind of executive in New York or Baltimore... can't remember exactly where. Go figures. LOL
Yeah, as in I’m getting money. 2 of them for $92.67 each. It’s oddly specific. I called my bank and the guy I spoke to had no idea what was going on. I did end up doing some research after I posted and I wonder if it’s part of some class action thing from a few years back. I seem to remember there being some stuff about iPhones and batteries and Apple throttling something or another, but I don’t remember if I did anything with that. Apparently I did.
Seems like a high amount for a class action suit too. Most of the time those end up being $20 payouts or less for anyone who isn't one of the main plaintiffs or a lawyer for them.
Is it from Apple themselves? Or is there a buyer (or seller?) name attached like with Paypal?
They say ‘IN RE APPLE INC PAYOUTS’. When I called the bank they didn’t know what it was about. That does look like something official. I don’t know. A class action lawsuit is all I could think of, but yeah you’re right in that those are usually miniscule. I’m going to keep an eye on my account. I don’t need anything dumb happening.
I was going through my dvd collection and feeling a little nostalgic and a little annoyed about the time when felt like every single DVD movie was labeled as "special edition" even when there weren't any extras or anything.
Aw crap, my Ys IX is ps4. I have the limited, keeping it sealed. Went to buy the deluxe... Fudging GameStop wants $11 for shipping on a $40 game? What in the actual hell?
Bought a PS4 over Xmas holiday from a pawn shop. Store couldn't get the update to work, so they were selling it "as-is" for $60. All I had to do was buy a USB drive and download a file and bam! Works great. Well, I still need to put a game in, but it boots to the main menu! Now I can finally test these five PS4 controllers I have been sitting on for years...
My sister is driving through my area tonight and I’ll get to see her for a little bit. I haven’t seen her in like a year and a half. She’s driving from Nevada to Philadelphia somewhere, picking up a friend who’s going to be moving to Vegas and living with her, and then driving back because the other person’s car didn’t start.
My sister called me yesterday, mad that I didn't call to check up on them. Apparently the ice was so bad she couldn't go to work for a week. (Her family lives in a home on a hill, cars were rolling downhill and a tow truck got stuck in a ditch.)
So, it rained really hard in SD. We only got a tiny part of it. My bathroom got flooded, more water damage from the drains not working, getting overflowed by all the water crashing down from the neighbor.

I never understood and still don't understand putting a hot sauce on food that overpowers the taste of the food itself and actually causes physical pain.
The company I worked for hired a guy who had already retired from another job. This guy wouldn't eat anything that didn't have some sort of "hot" ingredient. All of the sandwiches he brought from home had jalapeno or some other "hot" cheese. When one guy went out to pick up fish sandwiches at Captain D.'s, he put shrimp sauce on his sandwich instead of tartar sauce. When the company had a meal that included a crawfish boil, he sat at the table eating crawfish with the various hot sauces provided all night. I thought I was joking when I said it, but I now I firmly believe that he had burned out his taste buds and needed a hot ingredient in order to taste anything.
I like putting hot sauce on stuff and making things spicy. I don’t want to overtake the taste of the food I’m putting the sauce on, but accentuate it. Eggs are boring. Cholula helps make eggs less boring.
I'm not the man I used to be. Have always loved super hot stuff... But nope, I'm old. I was surprisingly impressed with how hot this was. I get hot stuff everywhere and criticize... No big deal. This stuff, Oooffff, went right through me and now I live in a world of regret.
Oh, it was amazing. I finished about 90% of it... Had some fun follow ups, haha. Thank God for immodium! Christ I'm old. Still won't slow me down from doing it again!
If you like a kick but also like flavor and not just all hot, I highly recommend Tiger Sauce. If I had room in the fridge, I'd buy a gallon. It's both sweet and spicy. Not too spicy, but it has a kick. Very flavorful. That's a sauce that I think was done right.
@BucketofJustice My wife and I both hate grocery shopping too. A few months ago we switched to having our groceries delivered, and it's been a game changer. Saves us so much time, and it's easier to keep the grocery bill down that way when you see the price going up as you add stuff, and can easily edit the cart before checking out. Also, no impulse buying. It requires a Walmart+ membership, but the money we save on gas alone pays for that.
We use DoorDash over here to get groceries delivered. Maybe a little bit more money due to delivery charges and whatnot but time saved/gas saved makes it worth it. Plus not having to interact with people = simply wonderful.
As much as I don't like going to the grocery store, I can't have other people pick out my fruits, vegetables, and salads. Then there's the fact that I'm constantly changing what I purchase due to availability or possibly a better deal or a clearance item. I usually get a few clearance items when I go to Kroger. As far as dealing with people is concerned, it really isn't an issue for me because I go in the morning and check out a little after 7 a.m., so not a busy time to go. Also, deep down, I just know they're going to screw my order up somehow.

I agree with the not wanting someone else to pick out my produce. We've gotten food deliveries with produce that was damaged, that I would never have picked at the store on my own. The way I view it is that it's a way for the workers in the store to get rid of non prime produce without having to throw it out, by putting it into the delivery of a customer. Just my opinion. Perhaps I'm wrong.
Non produce though, I'm definitely a fan of getting things delivered sometimes.
I've never liked grocery shopping... especially if I know what I'm getting, but still gotta deal with people being stupid and then there's the people just standing in the aisles or walking area chatting... it's understandable to socialize and catch up with people you run into but don't block the way!!
I've also come to the realization as a single person living by myself, it helps I don't go grocery shopping because I end up eating more food than I should because I don't do much when I'm not at work. So I guess I'd save myself money in the long run to just go get what I'm going to eat for dinner and lunch the next day when I come home.
As for pick up and delivery options... never really had an issue on pick up but delivery I've had stuff delivered and just sit outside for 5-10 min w/o a notification my stuff is delivered or a knock on my door. Luckily nothing got stolen or gone bad in the time frame.
Grocery delivery rules. Made soup. I found a marry me chicken soup recipe and I followed it exactly and eh. It was OK. Not great. Not terrible. I’ve eaten two meals today. One was an omelette from a breakfast joint here in OKC and the other was that soup, and both sent me to the bathroom for extended periods of time and neither were particularly enjoyable. I also found a screw in my tire yesterday and I brought it to a Hibdon tires and they fixed it for free, so that was cool. Today was lazy and I pushed off a bunch of stuff I should’ve done today, like cleaning. I’ll do that tomorrow. I’ve been saying that for at least a week. We’ll see what happens.
Bucket, a recipe is just a starting point. You make it once, then the next time you figure out what to add or remove.
That's basically how I ended up making my own style of ramen bowls with cooked pulled pork, dark and slightly aged soy sauce (a brand I use for cooking gets much tastier a month after I open it), some veggies, and the latest experiment was a bit of chili crisp. That really made it taste much better.
I’m glad those modifications worked out. That sounds really good. I don’t know if this soup I made yesterday is worth modifying. It was OK but that’s about it. I’ll have to try again at some point. My immediate modifications would be to add the mushrooms I meant to add this time, make it spicier, less salty, and thicken it up. Might add some soy sauce in there for a little umami as well.
There are so many cars near where I live. Endless flow of traffic. Terrible for trying to listen to messages on your phone as you walk. The trucks, cars, and busses just don't stop.
I never had Rock em Sock em Robots as a kid. My cousin had it, but I only interacted with it a little. Got it for my kid. It's much smaller/cheaper than I remember, probably a combination of me being bigger/35 years later and it actually being cheaper/smaller. Love this game. My strategy is legit, and I feel like I have an advantage... but my youngest wins maybe a little less than half the time. This game is great.
Any game where I win a little over 50% of the time is great for me. Less than 50% and I feel like I suck too much to keep playing. But, if I win too much, it's too easy and I lose interest.
re:father son gaming - a friend of mine in college had a story about playing chess with his dad as a kid, always losing. He finally won and they never played again. Excellent parenting!
Oh hell no. I relish the day my kids beat me in chess.. I had 1 scare, but none of them have reached 10 yet. They've known how to set up the board since 4 or 5, know the moves. On the flip side, I've lost to my 5 year old in checkers... lol
Once my daughter got old enough to truly understand the games we were playing, I never let her win. Sometimes I would discuss the strategies we were using so that she could learn how to get better.
We didn't play Monopoly very often, but she played several times with a high school friend. Both of them used the strategy of never selling property to anyone who could complete a set and start building houses on them. This usually made the game pretty long. When she got married, she called me and complained because her husband's friends would sell/trade and let others get all three properties in a set.
I've regaled GameTZ with this story before, but it has been a while. My favorite "who was that masked man" kind of story involved chess. One night when I was a senior in college, I was walking past a room near the cafeteria when I see a couple of tables lined with guys playing chess. I enter and after a game ends, I ask one of the players what this is about. He tells me it is the Southern Indiana Chess Club tournament. He points to one of the games and tells me it is for the Championship. I quietly explain how I played chess on my high school chess team, but hadn't played more than a couple of games in college. A few more games end, and it turns out a few of these guys went to the same high school and had the same Chess Club sponsor. The Championship game ends and the winner leaves. The runner-up asks me to play. A few moves into the game, almost everyone in the room is watching us. I beat the guy fairly easily and get lots of offers of "play me next". I walk out while I'm ahead.
> Are modern games getting boring or am I losing interest?
I say it's more likely the second one.
I loved video games as a kid. Would play games I got thoroughly. Hundreds of hours spent sometimes on one game. But gaming itself for the past few years hasn't grabbed my attention as much. I still do play video games, and I do enjoy them, but I don't put nearly as much time into it as I used to.
There are some great modern games. Metroid Dread was excellent, Super Smash bros is great fun as a multiplayer, Tekken 8 seems great from the gameplay I've seen.
For me, I think it's loss of interest/other priorities.
But when a game comes out that grabs my attention, I really enjoy it. So overall it's not a total loss of interest.
For me, modern games are getting more theatric and focusing less on gameplay/fun. That's why I enjoy Nintendo games more. Nintendo focuses more on gameplay and fun. They are ok with something looking cartoony so long as it is fluid and fun. Games have gotten so immersive, with cut scenes and realistic graphics leading to clunky gameplay it's getting in the way of having fun imo. Even Nintendo has shown this tendency pumping out a few garbage games like the latest 1-2 Switch game. It's all about that profit, but without it you get nothing.

Agree 100%. I don't even play that many non-Nintendo games, but when I do, I get so tired of cutscene after cutscene. I don't want to watch a movie in video game form, I just want to play. They're not even good video game movies. Compared to actual movies, they're garbage.
I’ll always prefer the gameplay-first approach Nintendo takes most, but I also really enjoy cinematic games — a lot of the time due to the attention they deliberately give the narrative. Ghost of Tsushima, RDR2, the Insomniac Spider-man games, the Jedi games… all extremely fun, gameplay-wise — but also offer stories that aren’t just “paint by number” experiences. There are fun games out there, just depends on what you’re into.
That said I’ll likely choose a 2D Mario or a pixel graphic Party Hard-style game over most big budget releases by default. Just how I’m wired.
> ...ashamedly still need to play Hollow Knight even one single time...
I tried it one time. Didn't do it for me. I was very surprised at all the overwhelming praise. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad. Just didn't capture my attention at all. I got bored very quickly. But when something gets so many consistently high reviews, I'd expect to at least enjoy it somewhat. I don't know what to make of it.

You’re not alone. Personally I’ve started HK a few times and while it’s a solid platformer/metroidvania style I thinks it’s a bit overrated. I think I put 8hrs in on steam and while I do want to go back to it one day, there’s always something else to play.

Your ending statement resonates very strongly. If there's a game that I really enjoy, then that's what I play. But if my view on a game is "there are other games to play," then I know it's not doing it for me.

Admittedly, I've not played very many non-NIntendo games. But, the ones I have played, the stories still weren't that good. It's like, they're trying to be like a movie, but the quality is nowhere near the same. The characters are stiff and really can't convey emotion that well. Most of the dialogue is weak. It all just comes off cheap and cheesy.
> That said I’ll likely choose a 2D Mario or a pixel graphic Party Hard-style game

That's because they're more fun, nothing crazy about that!

I felt the same way the first time I tried Hollow Knight, it didn't hook me at all. About a year later I tried it again and this time I was REALLY into it...until I looked up the length and found that it's like a 50-hour game. That's crazy long for a Metroidvania game. I stopped playing at that point, but one of these days I'll go back and finish it.
I've been more selective in the games I play these days and what I'm enjoying... I'm guessing because I'm older and don't really have the time to spend playing games especially with my commute to and from work. Right now I've been really into a back and forth between Mortal Shell and Assassin's Creed Black Flag.
I came to a tattoo shop today with getting a consultation in mind for a few things I want to get done. That got turned into doing it all today. I have no tattoos currently, and I’ll leave with 2. This escalated quickly.
@nonamesleft - I like it and Elden Ring much better than Dark Souls when I had played it on the 360... Dark Souls frustrated the crap out of me because it took me forever to get out of the tutorial and then just death after death after death. I'm going to go back to Elden Ring eventually, but one thing I'm liking about Mortal Shell is you don't "level up" but you can make your stuff stronger, and if you pay attention enough you can figure out how to fight and beat the mobs... definitely takes a learning curve.
@BucketofJustice - Yep, I got 5 tattoos total so far. My first one was 20 years ago and my last one was.... I honestly don't remember. LOL I've always been told "You get one, you'll want more." That was true for awhile, but do I still want more now? I haven't put thought into it, but maybe I'll get one or two more. I've been focused on other things, but tattoos are "lifetime investments." It really does help to do your homework before getting one to make it a worthwhile lifetime investment.
