Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara - ARCADE image
The Combatribes - ARCADE image I only have a couple more MAME games left to play this year on my atgames legends. After that I can put my favorite games of all time in my favorite list instead of just Ones to beat this year. I also can't wait to install my bitpixel marquee. It shows little animations on the top of the machine for almost every game, instead of just having a marquee that says "Atgames legends"
SSX - image I played this game all night with my friend during the PS2 launch. Great memories. Still a great game and one of the must buys for PS2. Looks even nicer now that I'm playing it with my retrotink and my 19" sony LCD! Finally my PS2 games look sharp. It was the weakest link (image wise) in my entire collection.
Yeah meant to say in the US. I'd like to use current and future rosters of the Chicago Cubs. Kinda boring playing with a team from 2008. I don't know what I stopped my thoughts there. I know it's called Powerful Pro Yagyu in Japan.
Had a hankering for some Genesis goodness and decided to beat Kid Chameleon on the Genesis Collection for Switch.
Well, I beat it, but it defies all definitions of goodness.
Slippery controls, but still requiring precise platforming? Check.
Lots of "gotcha" platforming moments and enemy placements? Check.
Bosses that take far too many hits? Check.
Incredibly labyrinthine level design towards the later stages to the point where even using the rewind feature to backtrack when I went down a wrong path, I still only barely cleared the level (one level even at the zero second mark on the clock)? Check.
I rented it way back in the day and just thought I was bad at it. Now that I have a much larger breadth of experience with games, I realize that this is a lesson in bad game design.
If you want to play a much better game with a similar costumes give you special powers gimmick, go play Balan Wonderworld.
Kid Chameleon might be the worst game I've beaten this year. Also in contention for the top turd are Yie Ar Kung-Fu Fu 2 for MSX and Double Dragon 3 for arcade.

This was my most anticipated game of the year and it delivered! What a ride! About 80 hours played so far and I'm jumping back in for some of the post-game stuff. And I'll be right back once the post-launch DLC drops. I'm still pretty blown away, to be honest. Props to the folks at Fireaxis for taking risks and trying something new. And as a bit of a comic book nerd, it was such a treat to see all these characters - from the established names to more obscure ones - brought together in a game like this. It's not perfect, but it's a genre mashup done right. It's Marvel meets X-COM meets Fire Emblem/Persona with a card-based combat system that works really well. I enjoyed every second of it and I can't recommend it enough.
I 100%'d Kirby's Dream Land 3 . One game left 'til the Godzilla badge! [imgt w=1280 h=720]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FkPLxbVaYAAVWCR?format...[/imgt] Love this game! It's so colorful, vibrant, and isn't afraid to damage you. The Animal Friends and Copy Ability combinations give you so much versatility and enhance replayability. I love stomping on fools with Rick, Nago, or Kine! Not as fond of the minigames, but they're more manageable on Switch.
Ok, God of War PS4 improves significantly once you get to go to Alfheim. The first few hours are a walking/axe throwing simulator. It still has a lot of switch activation which is very stale, but at least there is a semi consistent stream of enemies to fight with the somewhat underwhelming combat. I would have said 4/10 pre Alfheim. 6 or 7 at the moment. I'm just past the mountain summit section.
Haven't played my PSOne in a few weeks, now it won't power on. I've checked all connections. BAH! I ordered a 3rd party AC Adapter, I hope that's all it is. I bought this brand new so it has very little use. Hoping for an easy solution.

Sorry to hear about your issue. I try to avoid buying sealed older games and consoles for just that reason. Once you open it, the seller never wants to take it back if there is an issue.
Right on. It's not a bad little game. I'm saving the other games in the series for a rainy day.
I've been playing a lot of Hades lately, I know I claimed it as beat after my first sucessful run. There's so much more to it than that. I've now beat it with each weapon and even procured the Platinum Trophy for it. It's now officially beat.
#33 - War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius A roll for characters phone game based on FFT. I played it like crazy when it released in 2019. Picked it up again a few weeks ago...don't know why. Turns out I left off on the final chapter of the game. Finished it up today and got credits to roll. Count it. image

Yeah, new old stock or "barely used" old stock always scares the crap out of me, especially since recourse options are scarce because of the assumption that you're buying Schrodinger's Cat and why the hell did you open it anyways, I didn't open it, etc. I bought a BWC PS3 and it died in ten months, the thing was basically good as new when I got it, barely used, but for some reason when this stuff sits around on shelves for decades you can't really guarantee it was well taken care of, even if it's still sealed, so damage isn't just possible, it's likely. Especially if it's exchanged hands several times.

new old stock doens't scare me as I've had good experiences with it. This is a case of I got it, it worked perfectly, now it doesn't. It's old hardware after all. Also, I have 2 kittens that scuttle around everywhere. They could have done something to the wire. I'll take this way from my computer so I can examine the entire wire and I have a new one coming in this friday.
I also got a pink DS Lite from the parents of a girl that went off to college, they said she never played it. It didn't have the box so I got it pretty cheap. It definitely felt pretty brand new. Still have it and it's my main way to play DS games to this day. Should have never sold my White DS Lite but I was happy to get another new one.

Same! I had a beautiful launch DS Lite that I bought when I was working at GameStop. Sold it on here, actually. Ended up buying a crimson one from my cousin and it was in great shape too. I’m still partial to the original white color, though.
One more down, it's Wario Land 2 for Game Boy Color!
I've noticed there aren't a lot of super popular GBC titles out there. It's also kind of weird that some of them are hybrid game boy games and others only play on the color. Kinda like PS4 games with a PS5 upgrade versus straight PS5?
Speaking of weird, this game is where Wario really started to diverge from your normal platformer. In the original and VB Wario Land, the focus was definitely on exploring, but you still had the traditional powerups and lives as a holdover from the Mario series
Wario Land II does away with that nonsense. Instead of powerups, various effects can happen to you as a result of getting hit by certain attacks. Get stung by a wasp? You swell up and start floating until you hit the ceiling. Touched by a ghost? You're a zombie until you step into the light.
These effects are used as both a hindrance and a help. Take the sting for example. Some areas you need to float up to find secrets. Other times you need to dodge the wasps because the door you want is towards the bottom of the level. Really cool ideas, implemented regularly enough to be familiar but not too often to become overdone.
The Nintendo way, I guess.
As for lives, you don't have them. You just lose coins when you get hit (which for greedy Wario is probably like losing lives). How do boss battles work if there's no threat of dying? Getting hit by certain boss attacks will throw you out of the boss area and you'll have to make your way back and try again (or not thanks to the power of save states!)
I was surprised when the game ended as I had only collected 50% of the map pieces that you can get at the end of each stage. After the credit roll it showed a flow chart of stages and there are branching paths with several endings apparently. I had no idea this game was so forward thinking.
Definitely recommended and super cheap on the 3ds virtual console whole it still lasts.

I like it, but I definitely prefer having actual HP. Wario Land II and 3 are exercises in creative frustration--enjoyable enough games, but can be extremely aggravating on occasion. Wario Land 3's final boss is able to effortlessly kill you in a game where you can't normally die, and as a result, I gave up on it for years.

If you want to talk about a frustrating final boss, try Sonic 2 (especially as Knuckles when locked on to Sonic & Knuckles).
Not only do you need perfectly timed jumps to hit it, but sometimes instead of bouncing you back off after a hit the game will have you fall through it and land on a part of the boss that is deadly to the touch.

Probably around 8-10 hours. It's only a single player campaign. There are some funny points but you really gotta listen to Morty's voice most of the time. And that weird sense of humor that involves a lot of cussing and explaining the joke.

Is there one for extreme sports? (this would be dirt bike racing, rally, snowboarding, skating, etc. . ) separate from "racing". A game like Jet Set Radio, SSX, and Mx vs ATV could fit here.
I like earning badges and earned all of them this year, but, If there are going to be more badges, it would be nice if you could earn them by beating one game instead of two or if the badges could be broader. The more specific badges the badges are, the more difficult it becomes to find a game that fits that you’d want to play let alone two. Just throwing it out there.
