Well... they've been pushing this for quite some time.

Also many headlines are saying it's only for "thin people". I'm 6 foot, and my waistline is 34. Per BMI I'm considered obese... Good to see the media considers me thin while rail thin models are being depicted as "healthy".

Pretty sure I'm obese by bmi as well, 34 waist. Every NFL player is probably considered morbidly obese.

Yeah, BMI is crap for how basic it is. I had 3% body fat once and was on the fringe of overweight according to bmi. If I bulked up a little more (5 pounds) I would've been considered overweight despite being in phenomenal shape.

What's the outlook on the Switch 2 or whatever is next for Nintendo? I'm thinking about buying a Switch OLED but don't want to if Nintendo may drop a new console this year.

NES - 10/18/85
SNES - 8/23/91
N64 - 9/29/96
GC - 11/18/01
Wii - 11/19/06
WiiU - 11/18/12
Switch - 3/3/17

Their main console releases have always been about 5-6 years apart, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see the Switch's successor release at the end of this year. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if they milk the Switch even longer given how successful it's been. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Switch's successor is basically just a more powerful Switch, which could very easily feel more like a revision instead of a next-gen console for them.

I remember hearing the Switch was planned to be a 5 year system and that was in 2017. We’re almost at 6 years in 2023 so I guess Covid probably delayed their timeline on a new console but it should be soon I hope. The hardware of the Switch is so dated it’s so hard to play anything new anymore. Bayonetta 3 and Mario and Rabbids Sparks of hope are kinda awful to play in handheld mode. They’re very choppy.

I'd like a new console sooner rather than later. I don't buy multiplatform games on Switch anymore, I don't even take it out of the house anymore so the benefit of playing games portable is a non-factor for me at this point. All I'd ask of them is to make it backwards compatible because I still have so many unplayed games on it.

I wonder if they'll follow the competition and go the two SKU route at launch and have one for digital only at a cheaper price?

How they handle all the games we purchased Digital is how I will decide if I buy the Next Nintendo Console. Minimum like Sony, Day one Support if like Microsoft. I am not starting over again.

I know Nintendo always does their own thing but I think they would have huge success if they just released a Switch Pro at this point that was BC but had more horsepower for new titles and could at least do better with PS5/XSX ports. We're past the point where the lesser Switch version is still acceptable imho.

If the next system doesn't support Switch BC I think that would ensure the Switch sticks around much, much longer and would really impact new sales.

Yeah I mean if the next Nintendo console doesn’t support BC in some form I think they’ll be shooting themselves in the foot kinda. Unless they really want to be an evil corpo and continue on with a bazillion remasters 🙄

Wii played GC and WiiU played Wii and 3DS played DS, so I assume the New Console will play Switch Games but this is the minimum, I want much better support than Wii to WiiU digital and wont pay $1-$2 to upgrade each game or worse. Microsoft BC is the way I want Sony and Nintendo to go in the Future. If they must make a unique feature just make the portable docked and undocked Super Mushroom Power. We dont need to wave the wiimotes or joycons. Sony’s Dualsense if they must but their Pro Controller is just fine, MS basically kept theirs the same a round. At $500 they could make something amazing, they charge $300 now for a hybrid $200 for just a portable. Make the Next one $500 on par with the two competitors 3 year ole tech and Pop it out Late October or Early November, and we camp out in front of the stores…..

MS BC
Xbox SX n PS5 Power
OLED Portable with fixed Controllers no joycons (dualsense Triggers) Battery Life 4 Hours at least
Controller Current Pro
Dock features from Current OLED version
MSRP $499

Optional Dualsense Style Controller is the New Pro

I don't see Nintendo's next system being $500. The new special edition OLED Switches are the most expensive systems Nintendo has ever released, at $360. Enough power might push to $400, but Nintendo's not been about raw power for a while now…

-Kirby: Return to Dreamland deluxe

-have a nice death
-octopath 2
-minecraft legends
-megaman battle network collection
-digimon world
-fatal frame
-Atelier ryza 3
-fitness boxing
-trinity trigger

plus there could easily be one or two surprises (i'm thinking Advance wars and/or Pikmin). who knows, maybe they're get the exclusive date for Silksong! lol

I should have specified, I mostly just meant 1st/2nd party. So, Kirby and Bayonetta, and then maybe Pikmin and/or Advance Wars. I wonder if any unannounced games will drop in the first half of this year.

The first big trailer for BotW that showed off a lot of gameplay and stuff dropped in June 2016 during their E3 Direct, 9 months before the game actually released. We're already way behind that. The game comes out in 3 months and all we've gotten are a couple vague trailers that showed almost nothing. I honestly can't believe they've waited this long to show us more. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the game gets pushed back again.

I don't have any predictions, but I'll post my ongoing wish list:

1) Mario Kart 9 - MK8 came out in 2014! I know they ported it to the Switch, but still, it's time for some new Mario Kart! I'd love to see them go full Smash Kart in the next one, bringing in way more characters from non-Mario games. Not so much for the characters though, I really don't care who I play as, I just like that it would open up tons of new level possibilities. Unfortunately, we won't be getting a new Mario Kart any time soon since they're only halfway through the Booster Course Pass, but it's still my top want. I want a brand new Mario Kart, danggit!

2) 2D Zelda - Not a port or a remake, just a brand new 2D Zelda game without any (stupid) gimmicks.

3) Donkey Kong Country 4 - More like the original trilogy, not Returns/Tropical Freeze. I know this is incredibly unlikely, but it's staying on my list anyway.

4) 2D Mario - something new that breaks free from the tired NSMB formula. A 2D Odyssey with Cappy could be great!

5) 3D Mario - I'd be happy with 3D World 2, Galaxy 3, Odyssey 2, something similar to SM64, or something brand new! I do think the next one will be a sequel though.

6) Yoshi's Woolly World port - Besides TP:HD and WW:HD (which I do think will find their way to the Switch eventually) this is the only Wii U game I care about that hasn't either been ported or gotten a superior sequel. It's one of my favorite games, and I would really love to have access to it on the Switch.

7) Pokemon, Let's Go (Gen 2) - I loved the unique mechanics of the first one, and really hope to see more gens clremade in a similar way.

8) F-Zero - I had dropped this one from my list for a while after playing Fast Racing Neo and being very disappointed. But, it's back on the list now because I'm sure Nintendo would do a much better job.

9) Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons remake - After playing the Link's Awakening remake, I wanted them to remake these two games in the same style. Now, I'm not so sure that style makes as much sense for the Oracle games. They're a bit darker/grittier than LA, and don't have the whole dream aspect. Either way, I'd love to see them remade!

10) 3D Zelda ports/collection - Ideally, we'd get a collection of all the pre-SS 3D Zelda games, so the 3DS versions of OoT and MM, TP:HD, and WW:HD. But, it's Nintendo, so I know that's asking a LOT. It's hard to see them not releasing TP:HD and WW:HD as stand-alones, we all know they'd sell like crazy. So, I don't really know what to expect, I just know I'd like to see these games become available on Switch.

11) Metroid Prime Trilogy - I've wanted to give this series another chance for a while, and would really love to do so on the Switch if at all possible. I really hope we get the whole trilogy at once, not individual releases. Since they released the trilogy as one product on the Wii, I have hope that they'll do the same next time.

12) 2D Metroid - I'd be fine with a brand new one, or a remake. I thoroughly enjoyed Samus Returns and Dread, so I want 2D Metroid games to keep coming!

13) DS/3DS Player - something like the GBA Player, but for DS and 3DS games. Not exactly sure how this would work, maybe some add-on to the dock that could communicate with the Switch wirelessly, so the Switch itself would be the controller and bottom screen, and the add-on would display the top screen on the tv. It's not perfect, but I think it could work, and it would be great to be able to play ALL handheld Nintendo games on a TV.

As cool as this would be, it makes zero sense financially for N to do it.

The Super Game Boy and the GameCube GBA player both came out when releases for those respective handhelds were going strong.

3DS releases were drying up by 2018, and there were only a handful of releases in the first half of 2019. There have been a few novelty releases after that, but nothing from Nintendo themselves. Original DS releases ended in 2014.

Unless Nintendo just bought a big stake in eBay, they have no reason to introduce new hardware to play out of print DS/3DS games.

It's more likely they would just add a few select releases to Switch Online (since Virtual Console seems to be a thing of the past)

I think bare bones is the template for Nintendo's B-Tier releases nowadays (including sports games), relying on post-launch updates to keep people interested/playing.

Believe it or not, this is my biggest want (or the rumored remake of MP1). I just want to play this again with cleaned up graphics, widescreen support (without paying over $150 for GameCube component wires) and no friggin waggle.

Beyond this, my prediction is we'll get Pikmin 4 soon. I'm thinking of a May or maybe June release. And at some point, they are going to have to start talking about the 2nd half of the year. They need to keep people interested and excited for the future.

At the Feb direct last year they announced FE Warriors: 3 hopes, Mario Strikers, and Xenoblade 3. all 3 released last year.

so, not things that were on people's lists, but big budget 1st (or 2nd) party games nonetheless

I thought by the time the GBA Player came out, the GBA was mostly over. I just looked it up, the GBA Player came out in June 2003, and the DS in Nov 2004. It's definitely much later this time around, in comparison, but not entirely outside the realm of possibility. But that's just my wish list, and I understand that one is a huge long shot lol

The only expectation I have going into this one is that they need to show us more of TotK. Aside from that, I'll be happy with whatever we get. My list I posted is just my ongoing wish list, games I hope we get. I'm not expecting them to announce any of those games tomorrow (although, I would love for them to of course!)

...THAT said...I've been fairly disappointed in the Directs for a while now. Most of them have 1 maybe 2 things I'm actually interested in, and the rest is mostly 3rd party stuff I don't care about at all. I'm always happy to see Nintendo getting good 3rd party support since that was a huge issue with the Wii U. But, I just feel like the first party releases have in turn slowed down a bit. So if I'm negative after a Direct, it's simply because there wasn't much for me personally, not that I expected specific things and didn't get exactly what I wanted.

Don't forget the GBA SP also came out in early 2003. A lot of the GBA'S most popular games were released in 2003 or later. Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire and the Gen 1 remakes, Golden Sun 2, Zelda Minish Cap, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, Metroid Zero Mission, and more.
