Since I'm very busy this weekend, I managed to convince a woman on my garage sale site to open her sale early for me. For $15, I walked away with Very Good, CIB copies of Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers Charged, Mario Super Sluggers, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Wii Sports Resort. Those all range from $15-30 values, so I'm quite happy. Here's to a bountiful garage sale season!

Wow, nice finds. It's not often that I've found video games at yard sales.

I just nabbed CIB copies of Locoroco 1 and 2 for $23.30. I’ve been low key looking out for them since November. Every time I find a listing that puts both games together, I put it in my watchlist and it vanishes the next day. So when I saw this a few minutes ago, I made sure to jump on it. The first game’s box has a stain on it, but it’s pretty minor. This was a good deal overall in my eyes.

It's what convention-going people say: "If you see something you like and want, get it right then and there, because you never know if it's going to be there when you get back (either in a few minutes or the next day)."

Pretty good day of yard sales:

Each movie was $.50, about half are to keep. Needed sleeves on a couple of Korean films.

Buffy was $5, Skylanders were $40.

I found a bundle of ElfQuest books at the flea market. The first eight volumes for 20 bucks (down from $24).

A set of volumes 1 to 6 recently sold for 500 bucks... the books I got aren't in the mintiest shape, but they're readable, so anything I get is good with me.

Also I want that Ghostbusters 1+2 set. :p

Picked up Samus/EMMI and Zelda Loftwing Amiibos from Gamestop for $5 each. Mud boots for my kid for $3 at a flea market. Could've bought some decent Xbox/PS2 games for $3 each, but I'd never play them so I let someone else get the deal. (Nothing super valuable)

At the flea market I saw 3 tables selling 3d printed stuff. They had pretty hefty prices on them, and all of them had stuff that they weren't licensed to sell. Not surprising.

True. I'd say the disappointment and regret of not getting something you were thinking about getting, because now it's no longer available, is often much higher/stronger than the feeling of looking back at the purchase and deciding that it wasn't a great purchase after all.

Saturday morning yard sales were kind of disappointing - I hit 20-30 houses and didn't see any competition, but there were no video games to be found. There were lots of houses that said they were holding on to old games for their adult children, and while I can respect that it gets kind of frustrating to hear after the fourth or fifth time. The best I came home with was a $1 small Samsung flatscreen for use when I set up games at events.

Sunday was kind of great, though. I didn't go out in the morning, but in the afternoon some local kids were going down the street to let people know they were having a yard sale nearby. It was about to time to take the kids out to the park, so I figured what the heck and stopped by. Anyway, I mentioned video games and the mom (who we know a little from around the neighborhood) brought out a box with the items below. I offered $60, she said she was thinking $20, so we settled on $40 since she wasn't sure any of it still worked. A few hours later and with a little elbow grease I got everything working, plus she said they might have more stuff in the basement, so that's rad. So yeah, random kids came by my house to tell me about a yard sale 2 minutes away and I found good games for cheap. Peak yard sale experience right there.

I can't vouch for that, but speaking of Evil Dead and Japan have you ever seen Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell? It's often referred to as Japanese Evil Dead and it's absolutely great if you like classic Evil Dead 1 or 2.

I uh, bought a PC. Sort of.

One of my usual flea market booths brings boxes full of electronics on Tuesdays, and I usually go there to buy cables or other things I might need. I found a power supply that caught my attention and I pulled on it, and out came a mini PC thing.

One of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&lo...

I tried powering it up there but didn't really notice anything. So I asked how much and was told "five bucks." I got home, started poking at it, still couldn't get power so I opened it up. 4 GB RAM and a 128 GB SSD inside. Okay. I reset the CMOS thinking that might be the problem but then I looked at the extension I use and noticed... it was set to the off switch. So I turned that back on and got power. It booted to a fresh Windows 10 install, but I shut it off when it asked me for a country.

The thing has a Windows 10 Pro OEM sticker with a key attached to the bottom, so my guess is this had an OS at some point but was reset when it was tossed or donated or whatever. I'll poke around it a bit more to see if it has any issues, but it's nice to have a secondary Windows 10 PC I can use for capturing video. I just need to get more RAM and a bigger SSD...

Nice! The NUC PCs make great little HTPC/media boxes. Given the RAM and age, it might be worth running Atlas on it to remove the bloat and get best performance out of it - https://atlasos.net/

This is the third time I've seen this mentioned today, and the third time I'm going to say HELL NO.

This thing requires you to shut off ALL OF WINDOWS' SECURITY. No one should be using this -at all.- It's a massive security risk and people are going to get their crap hacked.

https://docs.atlasos.net/getting-started/installat...

I know you mean well, but this is extremely dangerous. Maybe if the system was kept offline. Maybe.

Thanks for sharing. Yes, Windows Defender is removed and the steps point people to disabling Memory Integrity (which Microsoft also recommends to do also temporarily for performance - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/option...). Both of these can be added back in if you want the added security. If you're like me, who only visits a handful of trusted websites and never opens a suspicious email attachment, then you should be fine. The firewall is on though.

Automatic updates and automatic driver installs from Windows Update are also disabled. It's debatable if this causes security issues as new drivers/updates can hurt as much as help.

A year or so back I went to a community yard sale and bought a guy's table of PS1 games for $100. The yard sale was held again today. Unfortunately I had a dentist appointment but and arrived 30 min late I still did alright:

image
Top row was $2 each. Prison Break and Home Alone are sealed. Three games were $5 for all.

This guy had good taste in movies. Got all of these for $15.

Well, first off it was promoted through a radio station I just happened to be listening to earlier in the week, I was one of many callers that was given priority access to attempt unlocking the chest. They also told me what cell phone store to go to, time, and day. So I was the first one there an hour early but when the radio station got there for preregistration on what order they would start with from all the callers throughout the week I became 3rd in line because I was too busy rewatching holes (03’. It’s the 20th anniversary of that movie lol). So a medium sized crowd drew to watch and maybe try their luck in case all the people who called in didn’t unlock it, but I got it on my turn, the 3rd attempt of the day.

The best part is that all the keys were numbered and I picked my lucky number off random.org (key #29)

That's really cool. So there were actual physical keys, and not all of them fit the lock? And you got the right one. Very cool.

that's what I got, for free. I actually thought it was the person whom I previously bought a ps3 where I kept a bunch of controllers and just about cut even, but had controllers and games for myself, and some extra. Turns out, it's the one where I bought the ps3 beforehand, and kept the one from him for myself. Both people I bought things actually said they prob have some extra things for it, and will let me know. Heard that before and never panned out lol.

The ps3 slim I sold from that big game and xbox 360 lot a long time ago, turned out not to run correctly. Turned it on for parts so was still lucky. Good I now have one that works, and I was thinking the gold controller kinda seems harder to press the buttons, so will test it out soon, in any case, got a replacement controller if that one indeed isn't right, and some extras.

Have been sick lately, had a fever for 3 days from 22-24, 25th, til today still kinda coughing and sometimes sniffly. Gotta get over it. In any case, not making too many good deals, and I shared it on some sites, that now, I may have more competitiion. All good, kinda slacking at taking the computer seriously, but money is tight now, so onwards and gotta get over and feel better. To bigger and brighter things lol. Need to do a contest run, skipped April but feeling optimistic now lol

I stumbled upon an eviction free-for-all today

got 2 working PS4 slims (FW 9.03 (1TB) & 10.01 (1TB), 1 xbone s, 1 animal crossing dock, a stack of Superman and green lantern comics from the 90s, 5 laptops including a gaming Lenovo one (IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ARH7) from 2022 that turns on fine and I found all their respective ac adapters, Harry Styles: Flat Line Vinyl, Demon Slayer 2 graphic novel, and... a handgun which I turned over to a policeman monitoring the free-for-all (I was blessed the policeman didn't freak)

Things I missed when they got evicted at 7a: a PS5, PS5 controller in a box, an Oculus, The animal crossing switch tablet and joy-cons and possibly switch games, Wii, anime statues for naruto and dbz

> I don't care about the haul as much as the story behind this insane thing that happened...
> details man, details!!

So the people that lived there did so for only 60 days in this nice house, but they ruined it with their cats, you could smell that cat pee smell as you sifted through the clothes, luckily these people were smart enough to not let the cats near the electronics I found yesterday and what I found just needed a wipe down with a Clorox wipe or two. There was so much stuff in the front lawn, two refrigerators, a stove and extra doors for it, beds (but I told people I noticed a can of bed bug spray nearby), drawers galore, basically anything you could think of they had, I found packaging for a nsfw blow up doll and the man next door whose also the property owner said “yeah someone early walked off with a box of dildos earlier”. The scene was crazy as this house is situated on a busy street and people were pulling over to gawk, some yelled obscenities like “it’s not your s#!+ a$$#oles” and others were calling friends to come help sort through everything. The police took this opportunity to park nearby and start running everyone’s plates registration that parked I guess to see if anyone had an outstanding warrant or no registration cause they didn’t care about what we were taking even after I found the gun. But were talking to people as they made their way back to their vehicles. So, a picture speaks 1000 words, i’ll post what it looked like when I arrived:

My friend loves board games and I got them that “What do you meme” that was on that tote, it was unused.

Oh, and there was this passive aggressive mother and daughter who drove their car in the driveway and declared the area closest to them was already spoken for and now they’re just trying to figure out how haul everything in their suv, it kinda sucked they declared that stuff theirs but they were already there when I arrived and were nice about it

The game systems were under those dirty mattresses and box springs, felt itchy just touching the beds but it paid off, the consoles all work flawlessly

Took the day off for the holiday, decided to spend it thrifting. Went to a city I have never been before. Went pretty well:

Everything here was about $40. The cases for Rome are shot, but it is for personal viewing so not a big deal.
