Took the day off for the holiday, decided to spend it thrifting. Went to a city I have never been before. Went pretty well:

$100 for the bundle.

Everything here was about $40. The cases for Rome are shot, but it is for personal viewing so not a big deal.

Finally visited the pawnshop at their new location and found:

Xbox Series X 1TB Expansion $50

PS4 Controller $5

Turned down a gen 1 switch for $100, the joycons didn’t match the color on the box, the left joycon had been removed incorrectly too many times and now slides off with minimal effort, the game slot is broken (easily replaced for $30), and the fw is 16

Thanks, Frank. I actually haggled them down from $80, two tips pawn shop employees have told me is that it's easier to haggle at the beginning of the month versus the end of the month when they have to meet sales quota & to also look how long they've had the product when possible, that expansion card had been in the system since October 1st 2022

Good tip, I've done this a fair bit at classic video game stores even. At some point most stores would rather move on from something and actually get it gone than try to get every last dollar out of it. Especially if it's something that's been trending down recently.

I think TI calculators are overpriced...the only reason why they can charge $100+ for them is because they're mandated by colleges and schools for classwork...

Agree. I only got it to sell. A quick $40 or so.

Even $40 is too much, IMO. I'd buy 'em at like $20-25...lol.

On my way back from my grandfather’s funeral, we stopped at an outdoor flea market. Dad was willing to shell out $23 for this lot:
[imgt w=640 h=640]https://i.imgur.io/eihD5h8_d.webp?maxwidth=640&sha...[/imgt]
River City Ransom goes for $45 and I got it for $2, so that’s something! I was low key looking for a cheap Power of Illusion, and I’ve been needing another 3DS cart holder. Add in a AAA PS4 game for $5 and a $26 Pokémon spin-off for $8, and you’ve got a good deal! The seller was even nice enough to let me switch out the dirty Mickey cart for a cleaner one he had in a bag of DS games.

My backlog grows and grows. Will it ever be conquered?

We finally had a dry weekend here in Baltimore, so I went out yard saling and had the best luck I've had since probably 2018. First up was a community sale in one of the nicest areas of the city that I like to hit up every year. There were less sellers this year than in the past, but this was made up for by the fact that some new folks were out. I spotted the BlazBlue games , Metropolis, and books at one of the first sales I hit. I grabbed those then asked about more games and the guy brought out some of his old GBA games. He wasn't sure if they still worked and, TBH, the contacts weren't in great shape, but I was definitely willing to risk it for such an awesome little cache. I ended up paying $60 for everything and, after a little elbow grease, I've gotten everything working again.

In the same community I picked up that cicada shirt for $1, and I mention it mainly because it turned out the seller worked on the SubNautica games, and it was cool getting to chat with him for a bit.

After that community sale I hit another one closer to my own neighborhood. The PS2 games were $5 for the stack so I grabbed those since they seem like my jam. After that I followed a map they had posted to a really out of the way sale, and I'm super glad I did. There was a young couple there clearing some stuff out, and when I asked about video games they brought out a stack of PS3 games and a DSi with some games. I grabbed the entire lot for $70, and they seemed to be grateful to be rid of the DSi since it reminded the woman of a bad breakup.

After that I hit up a flea market at a bar I frequent. No games, but I did get that Austin Powers lunchbox for $3 and the sasquatch doll for $1, and the'll make great prizes for the crappy movie night I host at the same bar.

Also, I made a great discovery. For years I've been trying to balance yard saling with childcare, since taking one of the kids out with me slows me down but leaving them both at home tires out my wife. This time, however, and I took both of them out and it worked pretty well! I just left them in the car with the windows rolled down while I hopped out at sales (I was never outside of eye contact/ear shot and the weather was cool) and they just entertained each other while I was out. I had a good time, they had a good time, and my wife got some much needed time off. So yeah, I'm excited to see if we can make this a regular thing.

I just bought the PS4 (free upgrade to PS5) Hell-A Edition (includes season pass, Tarot cards, pins, extra DLC, steelbook, map) of Dead Island 2 for $75. The guy even gave me the GameStop receipt and it had the protection plan on it too. His girlfriend gave it to him for his birthday, and he opened it up without realizing it didn’t have a digital version (when he only had the digital PS5), so he was just looking to sell it quickly. I lucked out and saw it right after it was posted, and he met me immediately. He even let me test the season pass and DLC codes there. The whole thing took less than half an hour from when I saw it on FB Marketplace. This just jumped up to the next thing I’m playing after I finish Star Wars: Survivor.

I drove to a nearby house to get a PS3 lot for a friend. While I was there, I casually asked the owner if he had any other gaming paraphernalia he was looking to get rid of. After a little hesitation, he offered me his NES for $25. I agreed to pay him $30.

(Excitebike is in the slot already.)

As you can see, there’s some great stuff in here! The whole lot’s in dirty condition—in fact, there’s disconcerting yellow-green gunk on an unseen item—but there are some valuable and fun items in here! My two favorites are at the bottom-center. Sadly, no Zelda II. Day ruined.

just went browsing in the US, and typed Charleston, West Virginia:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/21669416...

just typed in the tunnels & trolls game, and seems that itself is already worth the deal if close by, as he mentions pick up only, in Lebanon, OH

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/25901180...

this one is 1k, but over 100 boxed games. I see Daggerfall which is $200 CAD prob after fees and sale, see fallout 1 and 2, both them are $500 CAD, in first picture see all those Ultima games, I know those can be money, see wizardry too, planescape torment, others, do your own research, and I'm pretty sure it'll be hard to haggle him down when he's downsized it from 5k, but that might be a ploy. Big buck pc games, sell much faster than the cheap ones, but prob cuz they're in demand every so often. Lots of money, I'd say if he's hard on offer, I dunno, I'd do the math if it was local lol, unsure, in Murphy NC

not sure, next time, I'll make a post where I'll share better than average deals, but maybe if it helps someone make some bucks, one might be too big of an investment and there might not be enough quality. sorry for filling this up with a potential hot deal and one not for me, but I'm slowly getting back into it, and hope to score some more better deals

Probably good, but lots of people, I told about the trick, to ask for games, and ask for pictures. And sometimes, they have games posted, I ask for pictures, and they go unavailable already. They want money, there's only a few people who won't sell to others interested beforehand and want to do a full sale and not disappoint people, though the good stuff goes early. My uncle used to do yard sales, but not for games. He's no longer around, and I got into it and have a bike and did a driving or biking route and had a pack or duffle bag. That didn't last too long. I am sure some are good, but a trick for all you USer's, try to ask for a pic if they won't sell before sale, at least you know what's up. I might be trying yard sales at some point, but I'd have to go with mom and make it a thing with her prob lol

Sometimes, it's better to just go for it, rather than let a deal slip through your fingers and then you regret it every time you think about it.

Better to spend let's say $25 on something, and worst comes to worse you wasted $25, than to not spend it and then find out that you had let an opportunity slip through your fingers.

got this, initially it was $5 a game. and shipping. there's a dozen, but he didn't reply and was kind enough saying he had some problems and it was $70 shipped. Shipping was $21.50 but he did say he would round down.

the real winners are manhunt and prob po'ed along postal 2 share the pain multiplayer edition. the thing and kingpin are worth some too *(keeping kingpin in my collection)*. Got suffering ties that bind as I have a loose box for it, cuz it's missing a cd. Tribes 2 just needed the cd, same thing have box. And again for return to castle wolfenstein, have box, manual prob manual in others but don't remember. The rest I took too lol

looked around and know warcraft orcs and humans is easy $100 CAD, than I checked manhunter 2, rex nebular, the chaos engine, robinson's requiem though there's only one new at about $200-something CAD, it's gotta be worth it to a gamer or collector that doesn't want a new one, and I didn't even check it out fully. I dunno, unsure if I could resist such a deal if it was more local. This way, would be a first, and shipping would be a bit much. Got paypal, guess I could use that but gotta load it up. Nothing too exciting yesterday. A wii for $5 but no games. Quick game store dump for credit and wow this story seems boring but while it was being tested I started talking with the owner (we knew each other for like 8 years before he opened the store, not exactly a huge vintage gaming community here) and I find out he's going to sell his childhood Turbo Grafx system and grab an Analogue Duo. He slashes prices on stuff to where I can't refuse it really. He puts it on hold and pulls a couple games off their eBay page for me as well as I go back home to grab a V2 Switch and a few cheap games to trade in.

Ended up being $380 ($200 for system plus the everdrive, $100 and $80 for the games), but after store credit just $150 out of pocket.

Haven't counted. Here's the deal I got today. Offered $80. The real winner: transformers war of cybertron. The rest of the games, the half life counter strikes are prob worth something, gore in small box, might put it away for a bit, quake wars enemy territory limited edition. I asked to see the transformers game, had manual, disc a bit scratchy, but still good. When I was close to home, I went back and opened call of duty 4 game of the year edition, and it had a burn for halo retail was the heading. I was like, oh oh. Than I checked the games above, and all were complete. Well counterstrike had jewel and box, did the manual for those have some cd key? I dunno, still a decent deal. Had an oversized pizza slice at a good price. I'm like pizza = cheap dinner. It stuffed me up and I had eaten very light before going lol.

As for how many games, I got a lot of 1500+ new jewel case games, and lots have not sold. I think a lot are multiples, and I for one reason or another, list one at a time lol. No idea, prob a time consuming and not good strategy. I also am thinking of liquidating some of these games and doing multiple item listings and lowball all other listings and see if that works lol. The other games, have a lot. More than I can tell. Unsure. lol

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/19201043... that's the deal for $80 I got

and the deal I messaged (fell asleep in the day, got no reply back when I messaged, and sold today by 12 or so. So it must have been picked up today from someone yesterday. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/29366209... - I see like 4-5 boxes of tic tac royale, that's a bummer, but would have gone for the possibility of 3 boxes of other new and sealed jewel case games. Free is free, I'm not so lucky. 2 great deals, and the great is for new greats, not me, I'm an old timer in here with this pc game thing haha. 38 and counting! lol

I watched a LEGO sale on eBay, and the seller sent me an offer. I countered with a slightly better price, thinking he would reject it. He bit immediately, so I spent $74 altogether on Visorak Battle Ram and Piraka Outpost. They’re complete in great condition, with boxes and instruction manuals, and even a handful of other random BIONICLE pieces. Adjusted for inflation, each set would be $44 nowadays, so essentially paying $37 for each isn’t egregious.

I always liked BIONICLE, but the playsets LEGO released for it between 2005 and 2007 were super appealing to me. They were pretty dense with play features and minifigures. The Visorak Battle Ram, the smallest set of the wave, has all six heroes and eight Visorak spiders—that’s way more generous than they needed to be!

I wouldn't bite for more than $25-40 personally, but only because some are going in good condition for ~$100 these days.

Also depends on which model, too. OLED's are nice, but the screens are a bit on the expensive side sometimes. 2001's are good, I guess?
