Fallout comes out tonight on Prime -- all 8 episodes. I'm pretty hyped for it. Is anyone else tuning in? I likely won't get to watch except 1 episode (if I'm lucky) but it looks REALLY good.

I did buy into all the merchandise... Amazon sweater and t-shirts were pretty great quality. I got the figurines pre-ordered and even splurged on the Arizona Tea to drink while we watch. And... yeah I did pre-order the ACTUAL FUNCTIONAL Pipboy from IGN...

HYYYYYYYYYYYYPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

...

Also if this bombs, all of this stuff might be for sale or my husband might leave me. laughing out loud

I stupidly forgot I "suspended" my Hulu account, so it renewed for another month... I'm binging "Sherlock" w/ Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu and "Criminal Minds" right now. I did binge what was available of "Animal Control" and found that hilarious. I would like to watch more of it if more episodes come out.

Goggins is awesomesauce!! I'd like to meet him and definitely would check out this show for him.

Figured this was a good topic to post this in.

Looks like they are releasing new version of Fallout 4 later this month (free to anyone who owns it). Shouldn't this have been synced up better to match the shows release?

I was mentioning that if I hadn't forgotten I "suspended" my Hulu Account because I would probably have jumped on Amazon Prime for the month just to check out Fallout.

Got to see the first episode last night and am loving it. Also YAY to a FO4 update... the episode had me itching to replay it but now I will wait!

Spoilers for those who are 1-2 episodes in...

I just don't get how they could have visits from a neighboring vault... I guess they were connected underground? Also love the twist (but saw it coming) with the raiders. Still had me questioning things when they slept together but then I was like... oh.

Can't wait to see the rest of this game series come to life. Really well done!!

Just finished episode 5. Really digging the story, the intrigue the show's building is pretty awesome.

Just installed Fallout 4 on my PS4, gonna restart when I finish up this article. Played it upon release for XBOne (360? I forget.) and loved it at the time, but never got super far... so I'm gonna give it another go.

I also have Fallout New Vegas on my PC and started it up late last year. I do plan on going back to it but it didn't really hook me right off the bat. Is there a reason so many folks consider New Vegas to be the best Fallout or is it just nostalgia?

This has actually got me wanting to play Fallout again... it's been a hot minute since I played FO3, never did play New Vegas... and only 4-5 hours into FO4... So I ask should these be played in order? FO 3, NV and FO4? or does it matter?

All depends on the creative team they have behind it. Prime also effed up the adaptation for one of my favorite comics, Paper Girls, but nailed The Boys, Gen V and Invincible. In The Boys' case, it's better than the comics.

My only disappointment was that they did not begin with Ron Perlman doing the "War. War never changes..." narration.

p.s. New Vegas was meh for me. Maybe people like it because the original Fallout devs did it? FO3 was best for me (first one of the new gen).

If I remember correctly there are multiple endings based on different paths, triggered by dialogue choices.

I thought NV was great. Played through it a couple times “back in the day”. I also loved 3, the discovery was amazing .

Just finished it. Pretty good. Looking forward to a second season. A little annoyed this was only 8 episodes however. But only because I liked it and wanted more. Some bits felt like they could have been expanded on a little more. But that would have probably only really meant just one more episode. And for some reason people in TV really hate having an odd number of episodes in a season.

Honestly, as long as they keep lore correct they're better off making their own story and not following an actual game, especially the Bethesda ones. Bethesda's writing is awful since they don't hire actual writers for anything.

Ah okay. Now I get it. It reads as they read that they were supposed to like it.

I downloaded 76 tonight. Because I want to start playing FO4, but the new version isn't out yet. I Forgot I owned this. Played it for 2 hours when it came out in 2018 and really hated it. It was such an empty and bad game. But I heard its really changed, like No Mans Sky did. And it has. Its not the same game anymore. I just wish it wasn't a stupid mmo. I really hate mmo's. I was kind of getting into it for a bit. Decent quest setup and has NPC now. A lot more enemies in the world. And then this clown showed up and wouldn't stop following me around. Dude was level 128. I'm level 4. He thought he was being helpful, I get that. But he killed my enjoyment. He was killing every enemy and doing all the quest stuff before I could. And then he would follow me and emote and try to show me things. I was so annoyed. So I quit. Waited a bit and loaded it back up. Same thing happened with a different person. This person was level 1651. Yes, 1651. And they did the same crap. Just way faster, and more annoyingly. Way to kill getting new players from the existing player base. I uninstalled it. Not a good time, in what would have been a decent time if it had the ability to be played completely solo. Oh, but I can. For a monthly fee. $10 a month. Lets you play it on a private server. What a joke.

I played some 76 a couple years ago. I recall it had different shards, so you could solve certain problems like that by getting on another shard. I forget if there was some direct way to do that, though. In my case, it was more a problem to end up on another shard because my (carefully placed) home base might get moved because it was on top of someone else's base.

I thought that overall the early game was fairly doable solo despite it being a MMO. Later, I think you need to do raid-like stuff with groups to get certain mats, etc. (typical MMO stuff). I had stopped playing by then.

Opposite for me. Was super bummed with the quality at launch. The gameplay felt pretty inconsistent- still does- but it felt noticeably “jankier” than 3 and NV. The leveling system was oversimplified. Came back to it and platinum it a few years later. It’s still far down my list of favorite fallouts. It feels very linear and very generic- and very short. No dialogue option consequences- so it feels like “everyone gets the same quests” and focused on the action not the RPG and player choices as in other fallout games. And honestly- without the best parts of fallout it’s pretty average big budget FPS.

The window in which the game released. Some heavy hitters were on the market in that window- and it did not stack up. Absolutely Bethesda was a target for haters- rightly so- they put this out into the market with so much stuff that felt superior already on their resume. It felt like a rush / slap in the face- like something they just wanted to get there to put it to rest.

I can understand how they wanted to make this feel more arcade FPS to maybe mainstream it- and if it’s your first fallout it’s a great jumping in point- because it’s pretty, more current gen, vanilla and straightforward-which to fans is another legit gripe - it’s very same story brings nothing new to the series.

I think Bethesda has made some great games, but they are all so similar that it's hard to keep loving them. In my mind, it's starts with Morrowind then Oblivion, then Fallout 3. I loved all of them. Then Skyrim and Fallout 4 come and it's just more of the same. Now Starfield... dead face

Their games have a place. But since they do not innovate or move forward in their ideas in making games, it does make every single one feel the same. But Starfield feels like they took a huge step backwards. Starfield is so bland and boring. It is a worse fallout. It is a worse ES. They worked on that game for so long. Over a decade. And that was the product that we got. It makes no sense. It is so generic, and low effort. Morrowind has more compelling story lines and quests. Fallout 3 has better 'loot' and skill progression. These games came out 2002 and 2008. It almost feels like they got too big for their britches because of all the Skyrim love. Their ego got too big. And then just stopped trying. Thinking anything they do will be gold. They are so full of themselves now they refused to listen to fan feedback about Starfield. And blamed players for "not getting it", or "playing the game wrong". LOL.

I really love their older games. And I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do with ES6. But if its anything like SF, I think that will be my exit point for buying their future games. I'd rather buy remasters of their older games for newer consoles honestly.

I'm mostly tired of Bethesda's quest system. Close-up head with tree of dialogue options. It just feels tedious to me. One of the reasons FO3 is my favorite is that it's possible to just wander and avoid quests. In NV you couldn't do that either. I like the RPG elements and the open world otherwise.

Some interesting stats about Fallout, and Bethesda games on xbox. Taken from here: https://www.trueachievements.com/news/most-complet....

All based on global stats for people who played and unlocked the final main story achievement.

Only 10% of players completed Starfields main story.
Only 13% of players completed the Fallout 4 main story.
Only 17% of players completed Oblivion's main story.
Only 30% of players completed Skyrim's main story (360). (its gets worse with each iteration as you would expect, 9% for the special edition)
Only 35% of players completed the Fallout 3 main story.

Stats for New Vegas were not provided as it has multiple endings, but no definitive "you've finished the story" achievement like 4 does. And Morrowind didn't have them.

And I just pull the stats from PSN for the same "completed" the game trophies.
21% for Fallout 4.
27% for Fallout 3.
29% for Skyrim (ps3) (8% for special edition)
And Oblivion didn't have trophies. And Starfield is an exclusive.

Its always interesting to me that so many people buy games and just don't end up playing them. And not just to story completion. Like the shear amount of games people just don't unlock the the ones at the very start of the game. Like the ones that are basically "congratulations you just left the tutorial area". Which get you like 20 minutes to the game. So many games have such low % on those things. And pretty much every game has low % (under 50%) of story completions.

FO4 does have multiple endings. I think it has four endings if I remember correctly. But they are also all very similar too I think. Like just minor things changes based on the factions and who you sided with. Been while, I don't fully remember. But yeah, the best part about Fallout games is the open world stuff. Not the main story. Exploring, fighting and finding all the stuff on the map.

I started a new FO4 game on my PS5 and was just getting bashed up no matter what, so I opted to just track all my XBox One stuff down and continue my original play through haha. I think my issue on PS5 was that I was essentially just trying to speed run it to get to where I left off and we all know that sorta thing doesn’t really work out well if you eliminate all the exploration put in.

Should be interesting to see how well I fare without much memory of what was going on when I stopped the first time.

Week from today. Its weird being impatient to play a game again, that I've already put over 200 hours into.

I tried playing the PS4 version on PS5 after finishing the show. Crash city. Couldn't get past the load up into screen. Apparently a week or so before the show came out they put out a new patch in preparation for the big update. And it broke all the DLC. You can only play it without the 4 workshop and automatron/robot DLC. And some how me downloading it like that and loading the game up, deletes my old save file. Its still in the cloud. But every time I download it and boot the game up, the game deletes it from the console. I think due to miss match info from the missing DLC. Such a mess. So I'm just waiting for the PS5 native app since I'll have to start over in that anyways.

It got more serious as it went on. But the goofy/silly humor has always been apart of Fallout. I think if they removed too much of it they would have gotten more criticism for that. My favorite line from the show was a bit of the silliness, and a shout out to the games as well. When The Ghoul says "Yeah, well, the wasteland's got its own golden rule. Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullcrap every gosh darn time".

The finale episode was good.

I had some confusion about the father character.

The son finds that chamber full of sleeper pods in vault 31. Does that mean the father (Kyle McLaughlin's character) is a clone? I assumed so, though I don't think they said it clearly. How else could he still be around 200+ years later?

@bill

Hank entered cryonic sleep with other Vault Tec executives right before the Great War began. He and the other execs were chosen by Bud Askins... Betty and Stephanie were among them. They were being kept in Vault 31 and every once in a while, one would wake up and integrate themselves into Vaults 32 and/or 33 -- whose residents just assumed that 31 was another normal vault. This was ultimately done to create a generation of "super managers" for Vault Tec who could then take over the world and run it.

It was a little confusing, I had to watch the episode twice. But it was neat stuff for sure.
