Wow. Ordered Ys IX, new... Showed up, not only is there no package seal, the box is dinged, smudges on the disc, but also has an in store label that says new.

Called main customer service. They won't send a replacement until this one has been returned/validated and then 3 additional business days. So basically a solid week and a half after I should have already been playing.

On top of the clear deceit, it can ONLY be returned to a FedEx location at Walgreens or Dollar general. What in the actual fudge? Can't drop at GameStop, or any FedEx location? Sorry we fudgeed up, but let's put the additional inconvenience on you, the customer.

Oh also, they charged $11 for shipping.

Eat a dick GameStop.

I hate that it happened to you.

I don't think there is one person on this site who has nothing but good things to say about gamestop's online store.

Gather, everyone. Share in the sorrow of our hoodwinked comrade and share your tales of warning again.

Maybe next time there is a deal that seems too good to be true, we can have a thread from someone who ALMOST ordered from gamestop, but remembered all the forum topics here.

That sucks. I’m sorry Mr. Bean.

The last time I ordered from GameStop was the Series X almost 3 years ago. The box was a little worse for wear in some corners but nothing like Bean’s unfortunate nonsense. I have no desire to ever order from them again.

Did they charge you to return it? I stopped buying from them about a year ago due to that policy (even when they screw up, you have to pay to return it). I’ve been buying more from Amazon lately. However recently Amazon sent me a “new” game that had no shrink wrap on it and no game inside, just an empty case. First time I’ve had something like that from Amazon, they must have taken a page out of he GameStop playbook.

So, in a crazy turn of events.

After I requested an escalation to a supervisor, calmly told my story, and expressed my frustration and dismay... He offered me a free replacement order, shipping tomorrow, AND I don't have to return the existing.

I was/am baffled. I was not expecting to be 180'd. I said I have no problem returning the old, but he said it's fine - reality is, they have a crap ERP, and even worse processes, so they couldn't take it back.

Regardless, what a stand up move! I thanked him many times, and said I'd give away my current one to my fellow gaming community - and that would be here!

If anyone had a true interest in playing this game, and will actually play/not sell it, please let me know. If multiple are interested I'll raffle it away.

Hell, I probably should make a new thread but let's see how many are interested.

Way to go GameStop, I was not expecting that.

Glad it worked out. That return only at Walgreens or FedEx, but not GameStop, is strange. Don't know what to make of that.

Generous of you to offer it here. Would like to finally try out one of the newer Ys games, but I don't have a PS5. Hopefully someone here will enjoy it.

Happened to me once on Amazon as well. Giraffe and Annika bought new - not only missing the game but case as well. It was just the extras and outer box. I was able to easily return it for a replacement though.

This is a big part of why I shifted to Rightstuf (RIP, thanks Sony) for anime many years ago. Amazon has a system referred to as "commingled inventory" meaning no matter what seller you buy from, the inventory can be pulled from another fulfillment seller. These leads to what happened to you as well as buyers receiving bootlegs etc

That's extremely generous of you. You're awesome. People like you are part of what makes this place great. But I can't in good conscience take it because I don't have a PS4 either 😅. At the moment I just use a Switch. (Considered buying a PS4 awhile back, but talked myself out of it because I was content with the Switch)

Yeah that's pretty common when I worked for the Verizon call center the csrs and supervisors would tell people whatever and promise them free stuff to get them off the phone but not actually put anything in the system, then the problem would be passed onto someone else when they call back again. All that matters is the positive surveys and various other metrics and statistics to keep your job because the call center isn't actually run by gamestop it's by a 3rd party company who runs call centers for multiple divisions of different corporations and they use the statistics to keep their contact renewing, you're constantly in fear of losing your job from getting too many negative surveys for problems that there is no way for you to solve. they hire anyone with a pulse thousands of people and most don't last more than a few months .i wouldn't expect a new game if there's no record of it.

Ys I and II?

The games have evolved a LOT since then. I don't know that you would get even a remotely similar experience from the old ones.

I think the steam ones are remasters.
Otaku100

I'm pretty sure the Steam release is based off the PSP remakes, but the games themselves are still very basic and old school in a lot of ways.

I really like Ys I&II, but they have very little in common with modern Ys games.

Hmm, well I would rather not sit in my computer/everything gets tossed in that room... Not to mention my potatoe of a PC. That room is going to get redone this spring and it will be our computer/Lego room.

Anyway, what would you recommend as a good starting of point fo the series?
Otaku100

23-Jan(#26)
The Ys games kinda change up the gameplay style every so often.

If you don't mind it not being representative of what the series has become, and the basic nature of it, then Ys I&II are a fine starting point. Only Ys I,II,&IV feature bump combat, and Ys III totally does its own thing. Ys III received a total remake as Oath in Felghana, and IV received one as Memories of Celceta.

If you really want to see what modern Ys is like, then you might want to look into Ys VIII? I'm not really into modern Ys games, but the games started to develop into the modern style with VII. I've only played VII and part of Celceta, but I hear a lot of people like VIII.

I personally really liked the gameplay style they had prior to VII(VI, Felghana, and Origins), with Oath in Felghana being one of my favorite action RPGs.

It's hard to pick a great starting point for someone else, because the games have changed so much over the years. You might want to check out some videos of gameplay, and try one that really looks good to you.

It's 11 years old, it was a donation that was not working. I got it about 5 years ago. I had to replace the PSU, redo the thermal paste on the CPU oh and it needed some new Hard drives... that I replaced with SSD's. It ran pretty good but this last year or so it's been going down hill. The SSD's are fine, thermals on the CPU and GPU are fine but games like Supreme Commander 2 are just slogging along or crashing. I have tried fresh installs of the game and OS you name it. I think It's just down to 11 year old hardware. SC2 is a CPU intensive game as is ANNO... and while ANNO was barley playable before it's not even worth trying to load up.

I REALLY want to build a new PC, but every time I do something pop's up that takes priority or kiddo needs something. I am looking at AMD and something with a RDNA 3 built in graphics to save some cash on a GPU. My goal is to support 1440p gaming eventually but will need a GPU for that, I am OK with 1080p right now... though I mainly play RTS so I think that is just fine. I am hoping this year is the year, I can build something.

... I'm really surprised that only Origin, VIII and IX are available on current consoles.

Edit: If you're going to start with a game, don't start with Origin. The game explains the backstory of the events of Ys 1 and 2, as well as who the bad guy is, and it assumes you've already played those. Most of the other games are standalone stories, with some characters showing up more than once in a game or two.

That said? My previous PC had a 12 year old CPU on it. I just rebuilt the whole system thanks to a generous donation by some friends. But that old CPU still kicked in pretty well, I was able to run games as recent as Arkham Knight with little trouble and appropriate settings. The CPU was still being bottlenecked on account of it being very old but it was very capable.

And every single Ys game I own worked fine on it.

Yep, potato was a good description :)

I'd love to build a PC for the fun of it, but it wouldn't be practical for me, since I barely game on PC (mainly handhelds). Though it would be nice to be able to play the occasional PC game.

I currently use a laptop and it has a whopping 2GB of RAM. I originally got it for light work. Didn't intend it for gaming, so the 2gb wasn't a big deal. But then when I started trying to use it for games, it really didn't want to cooperate.

Your potato probably has more than 2gb of RAM though, right?

It does. Back in 2013 it would have been a sweet machine. It was a liquid cooled Asus RoG desktop.

I wonder even if I found an older MB, maybe a 1060ti I could probably buy myself some time. I only play RTS and older ones. I would love even a gaming laptop but I want to build a PC soooo bad lol.

My good gravy GPU's are still spendy. The price you pay for a 1060TI is what I paid 11 years ago for a higher end card. Sorry just having a Old man waves fist at cloud moment. Going just put that towards my original plan of going with a decent GPU/APU.
