For those who aren't aware, I'm in Townsville and due to our tropical weather we often have drastic weather events.
Well, Kirrily, a cyclone is slated to hit Queensland tomorrow and we're somewhere in the path.

Here is a link to track the storm.

Stay safe. Have the authorities called for an evacuation?

No, the city council is prepared for events like these. We cleared heavy things from outdoors and will stay inside

I don't think there is any place to live on Earth that is exempt from wild weather. I live in the Ohio Valley - part of tornado alley.

Please keep us updated.

So far the cyclone has downgraded to a tropical low but weather warnings remain in place. There hasn't been any major things except power loss for a few times.

Try northern Alberta. No Tornados, Cyclones, Hurricanes, Asteroids, Alien Invasion, Earth quakes. It's been a super mild winter, we had a just over a week of cold with 2-3 days of -40 to maybe -55 weather followed the rest of the week -25 to -35. It was +7 yesterday and is now +5 today. What snow we had is now pretty much gone. We have not even had a decent thunder storm in 2-3 years... its pretty boring weather wise up here....

Now that I have said this, the sky will probably fall this year.. We are expecting it to be pretty dry, but nothing wild like a Cyclone or Tornado.

Anyway, stay safe.

Where I live (southern Indiana - across the Ohio from Louisville, KY) the temperature rarely gets below zero, but it does happen. Our typical winter is a few months of 30s to 40s in the daytime and into the 20s at night. My philosophy on weather is the if it is cold enough to kill you, it is too cold.

The worst cold I've been in was when I went to Mackinaw, Michigan, in February to watch dog sled races. When I got up that Saturday morning, the weather report was 30 below °F with a wind chill of 50 below °F. I grew a full beard, dressed in layers, etc.

The only major weather we get up here around Boston is intense winter storms... but those only come once every few years it seems. Otherwise, it just gets cold with a normal amount of snow for the northern US. There were a few tornado warnings this past summer because of unusually high winds but those only lasted like 15 minutes and no tornadoes ever actually formed.

All in all, the weather in the northeast is fairly consistent... nothing too major other than, again, the occasional big snowstorm. I'd be terrified living in other parts of the country where earthquakes and tornadoes are a constant possibility, so props to you folks with the balls to tough it out.
