I'd prefer a GBA, but I'd be fine with a GBC or GB pocket or something similar. Also any recommendations on clones or similar basic handhelds with Gameboy emulation would be appreciated.

Why not get a cheapish android phone. Most android phones nowadays will run gba and earlier at full speed. Unless you already have one. I'd also recommend getting something like a razer kishi if you were to go that route. I love mine and I ended up getting a decent condition used one from ebay for $25

I want physical buttons. I have a nes emulator on my phone and it doesn't do it for me.

He mentioned the Razer Kishi to use on the phone. That should take care of your physical button requirement.

The Retroid Pocket 2+ is on sale for $90 on Amazon. Great little device.

Watch for the RG35XX on Aliexpress. I picked one up for $55 shipped a couple weeks ago and it's awesome.

a phone with a Kishi on it looks WAYYYY too much like a Steam Deck or a Nintendo Switch to a crackhead.

I can't speak for any of these sellers either but certainly still $55 shipped (or less):

Make sure the first thing you do is put on GarlicOS which is similar to what you would find on Myoo Mini.

I think I'm sold on the RG35XX after doing a little research. For that price there's not much to lose. Reviews are great too. Now trying to decide on ordering from Aliexpress or Amazon. Significantly more expensive on Amazon at $80 though I'll get it a lot faster. Are the shipping estimates on Aliexpress pretty accurate? Because that means I'll have to wait till May to get the system.

When I ordered mine, it was estimated to be 3-4 weeks out but I received it in a week (label showed it was dropshipped from New York). Can't speak for if all sellers are doing something similar given customs or not. To me, it was a no-brainer at this price as it provides a lot of value in a size that made sense and even if it took the full duration to arrive, I wasn't in any rush to get it. Your circumstances might be different.

Not so much of a rush as I'd just be impatient to get it ha. I like that you can hook it up to a TV and another controller so you can play 2-player games. I'm guessing 4 player is asking too much? Couldn't find much info on that.

My wife ended up gifting me a RG353M. This thing is pretty sweet. Still getting used to all the settings and controls but it’s a nice, high-quality device. I’ve been playing some of the 90s arcade games and it goes into TATE mode for those which is pretty awesome. I don’t portable game much so I have to get used to the small size. I’m thinking of getting grips for it.
I really want to try it on a TV once I get my hands on a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable. If anyone’s got any tips on how to maximize the experience just lmk.
