GameStop's website is the worst. They mark down all these games but nothing is ever available for shipping or store pick-up.

I feel you. The game i wanted most wasnt available. Still snagged 5 games for all under 20 a piece tho.

Though oddly enough, it does work on the B1G1 shirts, at least in store. For example. two shirts for $25 = one shirt becomes $25 and one is $0, and the $5 will come off the $25 = $20 for both. Weird-ass logic, but okay.

I can't stand those types of YouTubers. I've actually seen a couple of them IRL, with their body cams, acting like a big shot buying all the games.

People like that are partly responsible for the decline in the hobby.

Youtube in general has been both good and bad foe the hobby. Yes it gets people interested in games they may never have heard of, but with retro games in particular since in most cases the copied that existnl are all that will ever exist, it drives up the price.

Doesn't matter whether they are one of the "good" youtubers or one of the "watch me blow $3000 on this crap" youtubers. Any new interest in retro gaming increases the cost for everyone.

I think the larger increases were from:

1 - people getting into it thinking they are going to get rich because of the price manipulation scheme from wata and heritage auctions that Karl Jobst talked about a while back. I remember reading about a site where you can invest in shares of rare graded games and it made me want to vomit.

2 - Free pandemic money. Wealthy people tend to do smarter things with their money (and are helped by legislators making loopholes for then to avoid taxes). People who don't typically have a lot to spare and then get a sudden infusion of cash are gonna spend it. A lot of prices really shot up in 2020 and 2021. The market overall has cooled since then and most games have actually gone down in value over the last couple of years (even a good number of the higher dollar ones).

Echoing Benstylus. Youtube is driving the hobby in a specific direction! It's up to you on whether you like it or not.

Kids either had consoles or they did not. The finances of their parents had little to do with games a kid owned. This is evident by going to rummage sales. Every income type has games for sale at some point!

Today's kids don't talk much about the game options anymore. It's more about the game streaming. This leads to more Fortnite than Dark Souls/JRPGs
