When I use the site in Chrome in a private browsing tab/window, I get logged out the second I navigate to any other page of the site.

Everything works fine in regular browsing so it's not really debiliating. But I made this topic pointing it out just in case Bill wasn't aware of the issue. I thought I should also ask whether anyone else noticed it or if it's just me.

To be clear, when you switch to private browsing, you should already be not-logged-in. So then you log in and it shows you as in -- and then as soon as you go anywhere else on the site, you are logged out again?

Just want to make sure that is what you mean.

correct.

btw, it works now. I noticed that when logging in, above the name/password fields, it's written "switch to the secure site!". I click on that and notice nothing different about the site, except that the sentence is no longer there and everything works fine now. Huh...

I made a change recently that causes the cookies GameTZ uses to be more secure. It was recommended as part of a security audit I did. But, I should have followed-up better with the effects it might have.

As you indicated, this is likely more about whether one's connection to GameTZ is via http or https. https is the secure site, meaning communication between you and GameTZ's server is encrypted (good!). This is especially important and sign-on as your password is sent then. But, cookies also have sign-on info in them, so should be protected as well.

Since the change I made, http may not be setting cookies and thus the site signs you out on the next click. This may even happen when not in private browsing. That's not great, I think...

GameTZ has mostly used https for several years now, but still supports http as well (you'll just see that message about switching to the secure site). http is insecure... so not great, but it's not like we get people hacking into other's GTZ accounts either (almost never?). So, maybe I shouldn't be so tough about it.

I'll look into it more. Thanks for letting me know.

I adjusted how cookies are set to work again for http connections.

If you sign on while using private browsing (and http) it should keep you signed on now (as it did before).

Note that you really should always use https (secure) connections and avoid http. Basically, anything you type/submit over an http connection can be seen by hackers potentially. For example, if you type your password and submit it to login...

I'm getting the same error and I'm not using private browsing. I had to use Edge just to post this.

Used the secure site and it worked fine on Chrome.
