As far as I recall, the new layout never used topic icons. There's just no space for them. I think my intention was to remove them entirely. But, the old layout remained popular. I think topic icons are kind of dumb to be honest. Maybe I could remove them now? Would anyone notice? Probably this has been discussed before, but I forget why I didn't just get rid of them.
