Today (March 20) marks the tenth anniversary of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon here in North America, and I'm celebrating by replaying it. I frequently honor significant VG anniversaries by playing the game or listening to its soundtrack when its release date rolls around. Does anyone here do the same for their favorites?

If the publisher makes a big deal out of it (like with the Mario and Zelda Game and Watch systems, or the recent Atari 50 release) I may celebrate by buying them.

But as far as remembering every great game's anniversary? I got too many dates to remember as it is.

Um.... no. Never. It isn't so important to me that I'm going to bother remembering when a game or a console was released.

I've never done that. I do enjoy replaying a game from time to time but it's spontaneous.

Aside from the dreamcast release on 9/9/99, I couldn't tell you a single date that a game came out.

I remember Mortal Monday, Sonic 2sday, and Fatality Friday but I couldn't tell you the month or year of any of them off the top of my head

I also remember the Dreamcast's Japanese release of 11/27/98 because my dad's birthday is the same month and day (different year obviously)

The only other things I know off the top of my head are Skyrim, because it came out on 11/11/11.
And that From software releases games seemingly only in the first four months of the year.

That is it. That is all I know about past release dates. And I don't celebrate that. I just know those useless bits of info.

It makes sense you guys don’t. I used to run a video game wiki, and memorizing the release dates of all the games made editing and organizing easier.

The only game release date I know off the top of my head is Breath of the Wild, since it released the same day as the Switch.

I can't think of any examples where I played a game just to celebrate its release date anniversary, though I know 3/20 was the three year anniversary of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and I did almost play it for that reason, but decided against it. I played that game every single day from its launch up until my birthday this past December and I couldn't convince myself it would be worth playing again. It just didn't have the longevity of the 3DS game.

And like others have said, I don't remember release dates of too many modern games to care about their anniversaries. These days if I buy a game on day one I often don't even play it, it goes straight to the backlog for months (sometimes years, like New Pokemon Snap or Garage Game Builder).

Prior to GP I didn't really pay attention to new releases and their dates bc of my backlog. Plus after buying a few games for the PS2 at launch and thus full price, but not playing them for many months or sometimes still untouched, I decided to save my $$ and get them used or wait for sales... And then still didn't play them.

I used to run a Sega fan site and I still never memorized release dates. I just looked them up when I needed to

I don't do this but I think it's cool that you do.

I also think it's cool that one of the games you do it for is Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, which is a good but surprising game for someone to have such a devotion towards. Do you do this frequently, or do you just really love Dark Moon?

I have a good head for dates, so if I remember an awesome game’s anniversary and I’m in the right place at the time, yeah. Given how often the gaming industry celebrates its anniversaries, it’s not too hard to remember significant ones, and acknowledge them when they arrive.

I was actually mistaken: Dark Moon’s JAPANESE anniversary was March 20, with North America’s being the 24th. I just started a new save file for the first time in years, so I’ll be playing some tomorrow, too.

And yeah, I’m a diehard Dark Moon fan. cool smile

I don't celebrate a game's anniversary, but I do celibrate Nintendo's birthday. It's the same as mine!

Does this mean you were also born in the 1800's?
