I use to be a CIB only type of person. If a game was missing the manual or box, I was out. I know some people take it even further and want every insert as well. Over time I started to accept cart only but always wanted complete disc games. In the last several years even that has changed. With prices so high, sometimes getting just the disc is the only way I am going to get my hands on a game I want. The storage is pretty nice too, I use those slim jewel cases and they practically take up no space. From a presentation perspective though, the jewel cases and very blah and not fun to look at.

Now clearly I still prefer CIB and 90%+ of my games are like that. But I am much more flexible now. What about you guys? CIB + Inserts? CIB? Will you accept disc/cart only stuff?

I never cared. I was in it to play games, completeness and condition were a bonus. I wish I had foresight as sometimes a case or manual individually list higher than the game. That's nuts.

Thinking about this more, most who get to trade with me are lucky, I usually still have the plastic bag the GBA cart came in or the system wires and twist ties lol

I only want CIB, but I don't need any advertisement inserts. I only have one loose game (for PS Vita), and I'm keeping an eye out for a case to pop up on ebay.

Honestly, as I've gotten older, I've grown to dislike loose cartridges. I still don't have a good way to display them, and I ultimately just feel better about my games having a box as protection, and the box in it's own protection.

I've mostly stopped buying or trading for loose carts (always hated disc only). Obviously, if I find some dirt cheap in the wild I will make an exception, or if the game is of extreme rarity to where a CIB copy would cost a kidney & and a half...

Otherwise, I want my games nice and boxed so I can enjoy them from afar and get that little bit of nostalgia opening the box, flipping through the manual, and replaying a classic!

As for boxed without manual, I'm usually cool with that too. A boxed copy missing the manual will still ear a spot on my shelf. Now my empty cases I hope to one day find carts/discs for... those I refuse to put with my other games, and are secluded to their own shelf...

Besides the Mario Kart Wii promo case, I'm hoping I can complete some of the boxes on that shelf, and move them over with the actual games! grin

Prefer cib, but there are exceptions.

GB/GBC/TG16 loose is fine.

GBA prefer cib but will almost always take loose.

3DS 99% CIB but I will take loose depending on the game and then actively seek out the box/manual after the fact.

Switch/PS4 CIB only.

It all depends on condition vs console for me. On snes and 64 i really prefer loose becase i don't feel like going bonkers cib hunting and grabbing there. Most discs systems i prefer titles cib, but if you can snag some loose ones wether on price point or condition i dont mind them here and there. Titles do not necessaicarly be complete although it's preferably. I just expect the other trader to know what their cib entails prior to agreeing to a deal or once shipped.

I also generally avoid hand helds. I'm slowly getting into psp though.

Thought you meant 100% games since I sometimes either make the choice of beating the game or 100% it.

NES/SNES/N64, cart only. Genesis, box only is fine. DS/3DS, complete, PSX/PS2 complete, Xbox/360 complete.

Makes me think of when I see listings on eBay or elsewhere having "cib" or "complete" in the title, but in reality there are actually things missing, like other inserts.

This is where I'm at now with vintage stuff because if I'm getting something physically now I'm doing it to collect. When I just want to play something there are lots of ways to do that.

If it’s a disk, it needs the original case, unless it’s so rare that the original case will cost tens of dollars on its own. If it’s a cartridge, having the extra goodies is nice but ultimately unneeded.

I want to own every game I play unless I’m borrowing from a friend. That’s costly, so I prioritize price over all else in most cases. If that means Star Wars Episode I Racer is cart-only with no label, so be it. Bayonetta’s only $4 but it comes in a generic DVD case? Works for me. When we get into series I like, I wish to have as much of it as possible—Kirby Air Ride needs its box, manual, everything that can reasonably be there for a halfway decent price.

1 room holding 3 collections means space is always at a premium. Almost every cartridge system I prefer cart only. (I’m actually debating about the Intellivision, since I already have so many boxed.) Small carts (DS/3DS/Vita/Switch) tend to get stored in those multi-card holders to keep them safe in less space. But, except for the PSP, disk releases I want at least a cover. I can live with a repro cover so long as it is properly disclosed. (I do prefer original covers when possible.) Manuals are nice, but not required unless it's something in a jewel case where the manual is also the front cover, then I also want a manual. The little ancillary stuff usually gets junked…

My rule was always- if it’s a cart trash the package. If it’s a disc keep it all. Trash the packaging for systems etc.

I can’t imagine what my home would look like if I kept boxes.

That hurt me to read.

Reminds me of when most of my cousins' games were missing the manuals. Assumably thrown out. And the discs would just get thrown in bins. Over time many of the discs didn't work anymore. :(

Well I haven’t bought a cart in a box retail since GBA. So it’s not something I’d do with a compete game I bought to collect. That seems fairly obvious. Always keep the manuals. We aren’t buying carts in boxes at Walmart anymore- this was my rule back then.

This is me. I bought the games and trashed everything but the manual. Keep the clamshells seems like a no brainer. Last time I thought about CIB was GBA carts TBH. I have a few.

I've been running up against it a bit as I've been buying some more figures. Purging out some excess stuff lately, feels pretty good. Mostly extra copies of movies I had just kind of accumulated. Some books as well.

I try to buy CIB for modern stuff but am not super concerned with extra stuff like a bonus Keychain or whatever.

For older stuff, if it came in cardboard (e.g. all pre-gamecube Nintendo stuff) I don't worry so much about the box and manual unless its not much more expensive (Japanese games are often nearly as cheap CIB as cart only).

If it came in plastic (e.g. Sega games and all the disc-based stuff) I like CIB mostly because that's what I already have. If I were just now starting a genesis collection I would probably go cart only and save a ton of money.
