My 6 year old has really taken to the Switch lately. Like a big dumb idiot, I picked up Peppa Pig for my 3 year old... And now we're fighting.

Tack on that Dad still hasn't really played TotK and will be doing so soon, I don't know the best way to manage the stupid ass system that is Nintendo. We have a v2 and a lite, now debating a third SWOLED.

I created my kid his own Switch account, added to the family plan, still didn't help. Doesn't seem like both consoles can be online at the same time, playing ANY content from your account. Thought it'd be an issue if you wanted to play the same game... No, it's any game, dumb.

Is it that I have to keep the primary switch offline/airplane mode, to play on the other? What the hell can I do if I add a 3rd Switch into the mix?

I prefer physical games, but digital has been awesome for kids (avoid gross hands, loss, etc.). Yet now it seems physical may be the solution to enable proper play between multiple people and systems?

Also, how the hell does the auto backup/download always get out of sync? Constantly have to fix my kids save game states.

Thanks

Learn to share wink

Cheeky answer aside, I have a 6 and a 7 year old. They take turns playing on the Switch. I give them a hacked V1 and just load it up with all the games they could play on it.

No way I'd risk my own account. They do have profiles on my Switch for when we do family gaming.

Not gonna lie, Nintendo sucks with this hardcore.. they make it impossible to share purchased games.. My daughter wanted to play a game my son downloaded on his switch so I set up game share, now he can't play ANY of the games he downloaded without an internet connection.. so terrible..

Digital games can be played by anyone on the primary console of the person who bought the game.

On any other console, they can ONLY be played using the profile that owns the game, and it checks in online when you load it up.

Physical is definitely the easier way to go if you have multiple systems and want to share the games.

My son has the primary Switch and uses my account on it. We just have different Users/Profiles setup to deal with separate game saves. I don't play Switch so I renamed my gamertag to his, "my" friends are his list, and he just uses my account and NSO.

I recently got a Switch Lite though and use my account on it. But since it's not the primary it has to do a long ass check via the internet to ensure I can play my digital games. Kinda lame but it's always at the house so not too big of a deal.

But now my wife wants to restart Animal Crossing on my Lite, and I think that game is based on the hardware and your world doesn't actually transfer to other systems? Another annoyance.

You can't. The end... 😅

Joking aside, I know that there's a way to transfer games from console to console, I think as long as they're both under the same account, but to simply share the games, as of now I don't think there's an easy offline solution, at least not one that I'm aware of.

Well, I have figured out that if you take the primary console offline/airplane mode, a secondary console can in fact play as well.

How will this play with a 3rd console? Don't (yet) know.

The only viable plan as of now, seems to be that I play physical physical games and do the above with digital games for the kids. Looks like I get to buy a yet another copy of TotK, hooray!

Still, what a giant pain in the dick.

For me, that didn't work with demos. I downloaded a couple demos onto my switch from the eShop. Fast forward however long, and I turned on my switch to try them out, and they can't be played unless reconnected online. I think I downloaded them onto my secondary console. But maybe demos are different?
