I’m having an issue with COD: MW1 where even after installation on my Xbox Series S it’s showing that the campaign and multiplayer are not installed when I try starting the game. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it’s still saying the same thing. I’m pretty sure all packs are installed though maybe I’m missing something?

Does anyone here know of any fixes for this issue? I’m not having trouble with MW2 or any other game so far for that matter.

I had this problem too. MW1 was an installation nightmare. Long story short, you’re most likely missing some compatibility packs. View each pack from within the game but once they’re downloaded you’ll have to go into the games files from the Xbox dashboard and make sure they’re installed that way. Something along those lines. It was a huge pain.

I click "Manage game and add-ons" after selecting COD:MW with the menu button on my controller. It then shows me the base game (which is installed) and then under that are all the add-ons including campaign pack, campaign pack 1, campaign pack 2, multiplayer pack, multiplayer pack 2, multiplayer & special ops pack, special ops pack, special ops pack 1. There are also others like Black Ops Cold War and COD: Vanguard packs. @back4more showed me a reddit thread saying not to install the multiplayer DLC 2 packs but I don't see those. I'm thinking I should try installing just the base game and see if that works. I don't see these compatibility packs you're talking about. Is there another place to download them? I'm brand new to the Xbox and the last Xbox I had was a 360 so this is all very new to me and things appear a lot more complicated than they used to be.

Trust me, MW1 is the ONLY game I’ve seen this type of debacle with. 99.9% of Xbox games won’t do this to you. They just made a terrible decision with how to install this particular game. It’s been awhile and I don’t have it installed anymore so I’m just going by memory. I think if you’ve downloaded all of the packs and then told your Xbox to install them then maybe you have to go back into the game to “install” them there too? I know, it’s a lot. I was cursing this game when I first played it so I feel your pain.

Halo Infinite was a bit confusing as well if you want to play the campaign, especially if you're on PC.

Alright thanks, I’ll fiddle with it some more and see if I can get it working. Glad to hear the problem is only isolated to this game.

Whenever I've had issues with a game where I only want to install and play the campaign (and that didn't work), I've had the most success by going into "Manage game and add-ons" and installing absolutely everything. Then once it's all installed I remove the multiplayer stuff I don't want/need. It sucks to have to do that but it always seems to work. And by "always" I mean twice. I think it was for the Master Chief collection early on, and then COD Black Ops Cold War that I had to do that.

I’ll try that and see if it does any good. It’s bizarre that there hasn’t been a fix for this issue considering the hugeness of the franchise.

Reading this makes me glad I don't play this yearly release
