Anyone getting it or already playing the Deluxe Edition? I know it's a divisive game because of Rowling's past LGBT remarks, but it still looks like a pretty good game from what I've seen.
People are offended by just about anything these days. It looks like a great game, I'll wait until it drops in price but will definitely pick this up at some point. You guys will have to post your impressions once you get it.

Well JK Rowling does suck on a human level. Acknowledging garbage behavior =\= taking offense.
That said, I’m still a fan of the world she built before she went batcrap (or publicly went batcrap) and I very much want to play Hogwarts Legacy. I’ll probably snag it after a price drop or find a used copy in a few weeks. It does look great.

For the life of me, I don't understand why there is any controversy here. She didn't say anything hateful. I think some super sensitive and ultra-woke people twisted her words and claimed she hates trans people, which never actually happened, and then people around the world just read and believed that she is anti-trans.
Here is what she ACTUALLY said...
When speaking about biological women, she referred to them as "people who menstruate". Then, after some backlash, she went on to clarify:
“If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth. The idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women—i.e., to male violence—‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences—is a nonsense.”
“I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.”
Where is the "suck on a human level" and "garbage behavior" in those quotes?

I preface this by saying I don’t think she’s purposely hateful, she’s just missing the plot entirely.
She’s attempting to suggest that the simple existence of trans women somehow “erases” the reality lived by women. She literally says as much. That is 100% demeaning to trans people. I don’t even know if she realizes the weight of her statement, but remember that just because we don’t feel targeted by what she said doesn’t mean others won’t. They have valid reasons to feel her public denunciation of trans women in comparison to “people who menstruate” aids those trying to stifle their way of life. Given the way certain local governments in this country are approaching trans rights, the things a public figure says can go a long way toward demonizing or vilifying something for no reason. If she wanted to be an ally or “march alongside” them, she probably should have thought a little harder before making a statement that literally suggests her upbringing as a woman means they are lesser.
On this topic, I do need to say it’s goofy to see the same folks who were pissed at her for announcing Dumbledore was gay for brownie points way back when are suddenly defending her to no end because she suggested trans women are lesser than “regular” women solely based off her experiences as a woman (not suggesting you’re one of those folks btw, just mentioning it). That alone sort of illustrates the effect her words have had on how people view trans folks, whether she meant for it to or not. It’d be real easy to roll it back, but she just doubles down.
ALL that said, there are far worse things being said about and done to trans folks nowadays. Admittedly on the grand scheme, Rowling’s just entirely tone deaf to the situation and her garbage behavior may just be due to naivety. Doesn’t make it any less garbage though.

The game does look pretty good. Might have to trade my isshin for it after i am done with it or try to borrow a steam family share for a few bucks here lol,
JKR has said lots and defended lots of transphobic discussion / personalities. There are pages of well documented stuff out there. Personally it doesn’t offend me but I do tend to side with not offending others. I’m more offended by the 70$ entry fee.
More important than all of that other crap though, I bet riding a hippogriff would be pretty incredible. Just a super satisfying “horse with a bird face” ride with some pals, preferably with a beautiful sunrise setting to be the backdrop. Now THAT would be hella fun.

Actually it came in on Saturday... but I had it delivered to were I work. Of course they showed up 15 min before anyone was there and closed on Sunday... so I should have it today!

Probably the only way you’d be able to DL both versions and not need a disc to play them. It does say it includes both versions. You have to set up the sharing thing I think- which can make it impossible to play games if internet or psn go down.

Yes you can. You have to go to settings and setup to share games. I’m not exactly sure the process but it’s easy. You can use multiple systems with the same account. One of your libraries will be limited if psn is not online so watch out for that. Happens a few times a year it gets locked out- can’t verify license - error.
If you buy physical it will install but pretty sure you’d need disc for both versions that way.

Yes, if you using different profiles that would work just fine. You both could be playing the ps4 version. However, your profile has to be the main profile on that PS4, or it wont work. If her profile is the main profile, then she can't play your purchased game unless logged into your profile.

Yes. Since your profile is the master. You just need to create a new one for her now. Then she can be logged into that and play any game downloaded and bought on your account. Then just make sure your profile is not logged in on the PS4, just hers. Then you can also boot it up on the PS5. I do this with my nephew all the time. He has my old PS4 using his profile while mine is still the main/master account. And I use my PS5. I play games with him at the same time. And the games were all only bought on my account. But I also created his profile/account as a family account under mine. I'm not sure if that is the key thing, or just the sharing between the master/sub account. Its been a bit since I did it. But I know it works.
If it works that way then don’t fool with the ps5 sharing at all. I’m not sure it has an effect between generations? Just use your primary ps4 to download it from your logged in psn. This sounds like a much wiser solution from Archer.

Correct. You will either have to play the PS4 version your PS5. Or buy the digital deluxe copy to get both versions. Which I would recommend. Its $10 more and you get both versions.
@Feeb That is exactly what I told him to do. I just forgot the term Primary and instead used Master. I only got 3 hours of sleep last night. Stayed out way too late at a superbowl party here in Phoenix/Glendale.
I wasn't going to bother as I really want to go play Metroid Prime and Last Of Us ... but this game seems to be getting a ton of attention and the few quick videos I've seen, it does look promising.

So I got Hogwarts, PS5. Sitting next to Metroid Prime.
I keep hearing some mixed things about the game. Seems fun and all, but has some draw backs regarding the combat and inability to have macros/spell casting management, and general shinny/tedious junk.
To those that are further in, still happy? Think it's worth the time/investment?
Honestly- the time period and art style / realism make this setting look so blasé in regards to potterdom - it would have to be very special to pull me in. Everything about it screams bougie magic kids that suck.
I'd say save your money and pick this up in 6 months once they have some additional patches released. Seems like these big releases usually have a lot of bugs early on so why drop $60-70 now for a product that's not optimized yet.
@MrBean If you're lukewarm on the franchise it might not hold your attention. It has the same repetition problem all open world games do. Combat is pretty basic, but not bad. The loot system is junk, but just sell all of your crap that has lower numbers than what you have equipped. The world itself and all the attention to small details is definitely the main draw. I think the PS5 version was the lead development platform, because I haven't run into any major issues. It is a rather slow start with lots and lots of tutorials, though, so start it on a weekend when you have some spare time.
Sadly i'm having MAJOR performance issues to the point that its unplayable on PC. If i could get a refund I would. ALl I can do is play around with the settings more tonight and hope its eventually fixed
I started this last night. Played through the intro part of the game. Seems okay. Voice acting is really good. If you stripped the IP away, it's probably a mediocre game.
So far I've got about 31 hours into it. My wife kept talking about it prior to it's release, so I told her I'd pick it up if she wanted to sit and watch me go through it. She's in charge of decisions during the game and she calls the shots. So far we are doing all the Merlin trials to get all the storage space for items and we've been doing a lot of the side quests and growing lots of things in our room of requirement.
Its a little rough here and there, and there is a TON of fetch quests and extra crap, but I've really grown into the combat and really love battling.
My wife loves the feel of the game and she fills me in on all the little easter eggs from the books that she recognizes.
About halfway through it now, really enjoy the combat and voice acting, but the repetitive fetch quests are starting to get to me. Just unlocked the Vivarium, which seems cool, but I just want to jump through the main quests already! As someone who’s a fan of the books/movies, really enjoying it. Can’t see someone who’s not a fan of the series enjoying it as much though
Went to visit a relative today. Played through the beginning of Hogwarts Legacy. I think it does a great job starting off, getting the player intrigued. I stopped right after
I’ve got this on ps4 because i did the Home shopping discount trick. Only played the intro and it’s very intriguing so far. I need to try to upgrade to ps5 and continue.
I may snag it for the Switch when it releases, or wait a while for the Switch version to drop in price. I was excited for the game initially but after it came out, the general consensus was that it was a fairly paint-by-numbers open world game, but that fans of the HP IP would be satisfied. I love the HP books and dig the movies, so I'm sure I'd like it enough, but the "standard" critiques stop it from being a priority for me.
For the folks who have played/beaten it, is the story worth it on its own merits? Or is it like I've heard, fairly standard with the primary hook being the HP setting?
I’ve only seen about 2 hours of the story- but it’s surprisingly violent and pretty interesting so far. Standard chosen one type stuff in the potter verse for sure though. Combat is meh.
So, I started playing this ... overall, I was surprised by it - in a good way. I only put a few hours in, but already, I'm starting to feel like this is going to be a massive fetch and retrieve game. I flipped through some of the earlier comments, and appears that's accurate.
To those that finished - was it worth it? Sounds like it's a ~25 - 65ish hour game. This feels like maybe the right game to just focus on main quests and ignore everything else?
I dunno, I'm torn. I feel like it has potential, the combat is more fun than anticipated, but something just hasn't grabbed me that says "focus, play this game, it's awesome".
Largely because, there's just so much to play right now and picking and chosing the right time investment is pretty crucial.

I've watched the movies. They were just OK. I was overall disappointed as I was expecting a series that revolves around magic ... to have more magic! They were enjoyable, I honestly want to rewatch them ... but very little attachment/fondness in the grand scheme.
I know this is cliche to say, but the books are so much better than the movies. The movies leave so much out that made the stories as great as they were. Even from a pure narrative perspective, not just side stuff. At first I thought the idea of the planned HBO reboot show was silly, but the more I think about how much better each story could be told with the format a TV show would provide, the more I hope it goes all 7 seasons.
Also just found out Julian Sands, the actor who played Professor Lupin, died in January. He was missing for 5 months and human remains were found in the mountains where he was hiking, confirmed to be his in June. Geez. RIP.

On the topic of books, I don't usually read fan fiction, but there's an excellent one called Harry Potter Methods of Rationality. I won't mention anything, in terms of spoilers, but I thought it was great. Worth reading, at least trying it, if you enjoyed the books.

He was mostly known for the Warlock movies, but he was a character actor that was in a lot of TV shows and movies.
I only just saw that he played one of the bad guys in the old Jackie Chan cartoon. He also played Q in some of the James Bond audio plays. Now I'm sad. :(

Oh yah wtf, I knew that lol. Loved Thewlis in Sandman among other things. I must have seen some faulty report and neglected to put 2 and 2 together. My bad.
Hogwarts is a total fetch quest, but I will say do some of the side quests before doing the whole story because you can pick up certain Dark Arts spells when you do them.
I enjoyed the game a lot. I haven't picked it up since I beat it though.
