Welp, it's great so far. Binged the hell out of Fallen Order, so memory is fuzzy (watched a quick recap). Survivor already feels like it got a bigger budget!
Definitely have to binge this before TotK!
Playing on Grand Master, had my first death, and the game locked up at a black screen. Had to force close and relaunch, losing progress... Odd. Hope this isn't common!
Even on Grand Master, it's a bit too easy, like Fallen Order. Pulls some mechanics from Soulsbourne (like FO), and if memory serves... Feels better in this game, but parrying is just way too easy and forgiving to make this a metric to measure hardest difficulty.
I agree that it feels bigger budget. I haven’t gotten far (thanks to a crazy thunderstorm that knocked out our power last night), but I played for a bit, and the intro was quite good. I did have it crash once on me too, but that made me realize that there’s a nice option to turn on pressing x skips dialogue without skipping cutscenes themselves. The movement in this game is great. I’m glad it doesn’t have that solid, grounded feel that a lot of games have now where you move like you’re covered in armor. You can run, dodge, and attack quickly and even double jump with a little somersault in the air.

Yah, had to turn on performance mode. That choppyness got super old. Sadly it only kinda helps, still some really bad framerate issues. Surprised they launched with this.
I saw a post on reddit about turning off a setting about usage sharing. And apparently this is fixing many performance issues for people on PS5. Not sure about PC or xbox. I also don't have the game myself. They said its in Pause > Settings > Extras
Will wait for the $10 or less price point since game one is dirt cheap a lot. It wasn't that great and the combat was so super janky and..... not great. Plus,

Lol, I just switched to quality mode because I read that it may perform better despite being only 30 frames. I hear turning off the performance sharing option helps too. Unfortunately, the tearing and stuttering isn't something setting are going to fix. It's a flaw in the game they'll need to patch out.
EDIT- looks like someone else also posted about turning off the sharing thing.
> Is it recommended to play Fallen Order before playing this one?
A review I watched said that it wasn't necessary, but FO was pretty story heavy, while Survivor isn't, so you'll miss out and maybe not have an idea as to what's being discussed. FO you also start as a Padawan, so you more organically gain your skills and have that progression. Survivor you don't start back over without those learned skills and only add to them. So if you play Survivor before FO, you might not really want to revisit the first for those 2 reasons.

Eh, not particularly to be honest. You can catch up with a 5 minute youtube video. A whole lot of nothing ultimately happens in FO for the larger story.

The good guys and bad guys are searching for a list of Jedi-sensitive kids to train, good guy gets it in the end and says JK LOL let's destroy the list and be on our merry way. That's the story.
I would play Fallen Order first... no matter what Kommie says it was a pretty good game and worth a playthrough. It has some drawbacks like lack of fast travel but still worth it. By the time you play through it maybe JS will have it's issues sorted out.
Son of a dog. Twice now, I've died, and couldn't retrieve my body... Losing nearly a full level of xp each time. Shows the X on the map, but I died to one of the overgrown wookie type dudes, and attacking/killing them doesn't return my stuff.
PS5 as well got off Coursient and don't have any issues so far. I set it off performance mode and turned off sharing data as well. Chapter 1 was short 1.5 hours.
Minus the inability to retrieve my body (twice) and the occasional stutters... It's not horrible. Clearly annoying, but not game breaking (so far).
I'm enjoying it, but it's almost like they're trying to compete with elden ring and being bigger than it need be. Some of these later side quests just feel... Unnecessary. The flow and feel of the map is largely good but annoying that you can't fast travel without being at a meditation point. Just a fair amount of unnecessary hiking.
Ultimately this game is going to be twice as long as it should have been. Now I'm just feeling pressured to fly through it before TotK, but that's probably gonna require skipping a lot of the side questing which... I just can't do! Gonna come down to the wire here, haha.

Sounds exactly like the first. No real fast travel so you had to run around those maps far longer than needed, which really dragged the plat out. Running through empty space with no enemies or anything to do. Completely pointless back tracking. Also TotK doesn't come out for 10 more days. I think you are good. This game is like the first, it is only 40-45 hours long if you do everything. And that is 100% for the plat. Would only take you 25ish to just do the story and side missions.
These side quests, mini games, exploring... Are the worst rewards ever. It's fun customizing your appearance like... Once or twice, but I don't need 100 colors, clothes, beards, hair cuts, Droid outfits, accessories. What a pointless time sink just to make the game feel bigger.
Holotastic or whatever it's called is kinda neat though.
Yah there was this kind of collectables crap in the first, it did not bother me... I wanted the plat but I did not finish the collecting until I was done the story. So it really never felt like the game was being artificially lengthened. I don't recall many side quests in the first one though, it may have made collecting a little more fun. In JS there at least seems to be some side missions... so hopefully I will be able to knock out most of the collectables along the way.
Overall, I will say that the game has become more enjoyable. I think I'm around 22-23 hours in as I've left my ps5 on for awhile several times times now without playing.
I've completed everything possible thus far. I think I'm only missing two story items to finish the back tracking - which thus far wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. I doubt I'll do 100% though. Gonna try to refocus on story and make sure it's done before TotK before attempting more of the side stuff.
Dual Edge + Blaster Stance is fantastic, if not slightly over powered. Dual Wield is definitely more fun, and better for parrys.
Man, there is an amazing action sequence in the desert that was such a blast to play. Then later, one of the better platforming gaming moments I've experienced in many years. Both of these events really helped change my opinion of the game (coupled with various other elements).
The game has inspired me to get the BD-1 Lego set. Wish they woulda had him in different colors.
Definitely better than Fallen Order. I was a bit irritated in the early game, but it definitely grew on me.
I'm at the end now. Gonna finish. I only need 32 more collectibles to get platinum after this ... gonna try to do it afterwards. Just a pain in the ass.
