Lets say I have a nintendo switch, and an account (I do) and I want to sell my switch console. But I also have like 15-20 games downloaded digitally to my switch. Some to the console, some to an SD card. How does it work if I buy a new switch down the line? Is it like an iPhone, where I back up my files, clear the system for the new person buying my system and then eventually when I get a new system I can basically log back into the new system and redownload all my games? I’m considering selling my switch and replacing it in a few months but I don’t wanna lose all my games and data. Can someone(s) explain to me how it would work?

When I bought a second Switch Lite to replace my first, I performed a system transfer. It required both systems to be plugged into the AC at the same time (so two chargers are required!) and for both to be connected to wifi.

I hear you can also pay for NSO to back up your save data online, but a few games do not support this such as Pokemon, so the method above was my only option.

Your games are tied to your account. So if you pick up another switch your can just relink your account and get all your games again

You might even be able to plop in your SD card after linking and not have to re-download, though I haven't tried that myself.

Your save data is a different story. Nintendo locks that to the console, no copying to SD allowed. As egg mentioned, you can use cloud backup to preserve your save data if you have NSO, but there are a number of games where this isn't available.
