I find myself playing games, particularly RPGs, and then dropping them for a while. When I want to return to them I’ll have forgotten the story. I’ll refresh my memory with walkthroughs but I find this more cumbersome than I want it to be since walkthroughs usually include details about item locations and boss strategies among other things.

So is there a site where I can find just the story? Now I want the full story not just an abbreviated summary like you might find on Wikipedia.

Closest thing these days is watching a Let's Play on YouTube.

I would love to find a site like that. I'm bad about only half paying attention during cutscenes and slowly losing track of what the heck is even going on in the game.

I guess I could do that but it’s still a whole playthrough that I’d have to watch. I’m surprised no one’s actually done this. It seems like it would be much easier to write than a walkthrough and would be very useful. I guess people figure they might as well as be totally comprehensive and write a walkthrough if they’re going to put in the effort.

That happens to me and then I feel like like I'm losing the point of the game and the enjoyment as well. And then I just quit because I'm not going to play if it's just going to be some mechanical thing.

I look at RPGs and action-adventure games as kind of like interactive books so I want to fully absorb their stories. But when they're played out over 30 or 40 hours it's easy to lose the details. It's fine if I had the time to play nearly continuously when I was young with no responsibilities but now I can only play these games in bits and pieces.

There's a business opportunity here if someone took the time and effort to build a site with that type of content.

This is me as well. It's part of the reason I don't play RPGs too often, that and they're kinda long.

Sometimes YouTube will have videos that explain the game’s story in one go. Found one of those for Xenoblade 3, at least. It’s obviously on a case-by-case basis.

You could try using Open AI's Playground, feed it a walkthrough up until the point you're at and ask it to summarize it

That's a really interesting idea. I'll have to look into that. Thanks
