So far it's been weird one. I know we are still super early but a few notes.

Boston - Everyone, thought they would take a massive step back this year. I guess the Bruins did not get the memo lol. I can't stand the Bruins, but I have to respect them.

Ovechkin - Is this the year we really start seeing his age catching up with him?

Edmonton - They need to get there goaltending sorted. They do have a good one in Jeff Skinner! He is a true #1. They do however need a strong backup. Campbell is nothing more then a $5 million a year can of soup. Some games he plays and it's WOW this guy can play others well lets just say he has a hard time stopping a beachball. If they sweetened it, Montreal has the cap space to eat his contract and they could also send Allen back the other way. Allen to Edmonton for Campbell and a 1st and 3rd rounder. Edmonton rids themselves of a bad contract and they open $3mill in cap to go after defensive help. Montreal gets picks to help the rebuild and they either buy Campbell out or sit on the contract for 3 more years. By the time it's off the books Montreal should hopefully be fighting for a playoff spot.

Detroit - They have a good team, but those wheels have to fall off at some point. Maybe they do what Jersey did and shown they were actually a lot further along then all the pundits suggested? I hope so. The NHL is better off when we have a strong Original 6.

Berdard - This kid is good, but all this "the next one" talk I think is massive overhype. His top end maybe the next Marcel Dion.. the low end Martin St.Louis 2.0 I think it probably ends up somewhere in the middle. Berdard is pretty small. It's going to be interesting to see how he is when he hits 29/30.

That's what I have so far.

Lifelong Bruins fan here. Last year's finish was brutal but it was still an unbelievable season. Would have been incredible to see Bergeron/Krejci go out on top and it seemed like everything had aligned. 1st round loss was gut wrenching. Was basically pissed off during the entire off-season questioning the coaching and goal-tending decisions. When the new season arrived I was finally able to leave it behind.

I've watched every game this year. Ullmark/Swayman is pretty clearly still the best goalie duo in the league again. The defense is stout from top to bottom but the main reason we are undefeated is that our goaltending remains top notch every night. The revamped 4th line has been an exciting surprise. At times they have been the best line on the ice. Love seeing contributions from the young guys. Poitras looks to be filling a much needed center role. Pasta and Marchand will continue to score and control play when they are on the ice.

Obviously still expecting a major step back from a record setting season, but the goal heading into 2023-2024 was just make the playoffs and see what happens. Given the amount of skill and solid defense it seems clear that we are in position a few weeks into the season.

The skill level involved in hockey is amazing. They're constantly moving, weaving in and out. Passing, doing skillful maneuvers with the puck, etc. It's impressive.

Saw a cool (older) play the other day. A player swung his stick like a bat and hit the puck into the net.

hobbes21, While I do dislike the Bruins I do need them to keep the Leafs in check. Montreal is not there yet. I am pretty impressed how they were able to retool. They still have some kill and I agree with the goaltending. There day will come but until then enjoy the ride!

nonamesleft,
obviously I am biased here, but I think Hockey players are among the best if not the best pro athletes in the world. The agility, hand eye, timing, conditioning, awareness you need to have is off the charts.

Gypsy,

"Hopium" I like it. They are are really good team but though I think right now they are flying a little high and will settle down and reality will come into play. They are going to be a good team though. The future is bright in Detroit.

I was a big hockey fan back when you could watch it easily, now I'm lucky to get 1 game in any given week without any subscription services. I don't know too many players anymore, so I guess it's not too big a deal. I follow the standings and try to watch some of the playoffs, or if the Pens happen to be on. Fun fact my username is from when the Penguins used Kansas City to get Pittsburgh to build them a new arena. Penguins threatening to move to KC, going so far as to hold exhibition games in KC. That's the only time I've seen them live, but I have been to their arena in Pittsburgh.

Nice, yah I have to spend $250 a year to get Sportsnet + Premium (formerly Sportsnet Game Centre, formerly NHL Game Centre) Last year was $180. It was a good price because prevously if I wanted to watch Edmonton and Calgary Games they were blacked out in my region and would have to subscribe to Sportsnet.. so that was $10 a month. With Sportsnet + they rolled it all into one, plus the Blue Jays games and other junk like WWE (I could careless about) but it was a pretty decent deal. It's the ONLY way I can watch the Montreal Canadiens play out here in Alberta so I am boned without it. This year they raised the price. The $180 from last year basically gives me everything but Montreal and Ottawa games and I think Winnipeg... but gives me 55 Maple Leafs games... (YUCK). So I have to spend the extra.

I thought about looking for pirated streams but I remember doing that 2 years ago and it was such a hassle. Half never worked, laggy or stopped working halfway through the bloody game. Just easier to do it this way...in the end it's not a terrible deal just not as good as it was last year.
