Never heard of this, but quick Google says it's more so that someone was banned, not necessarily stolen. Would think it's tied to username, not physical hardware (MAC?).

Did you call them to validate why it was banned?

Anyway, looks like you can appeal it. Do you have any type of receipt or proof of purchase? This has to be a common scenario to Sony.

I wonder if you can call up support and say you bought it secondhand from a pawn shop, maybe they can put in some sort of waiting period. It seems really stupid to me that you could sell a PS5, then for some reason call up Sony and tell them it was lost and they'd just block it indefinitely off the network. If you've got proof of purchase, I don't really see a reason for them to just blacklist it forever.

How long have you had it? I see some reddit posts where people say they got unbanned after X amount of time. One person says to call tech support/center and they may be able to tell you how long the ban is for?

Have you tried to contact the person/place you bought it from and told them? Seems to me they need to buy it back from you and then report to Sony that it is not lost... or report to Sony it's not lost to unblock it.

Either way, if you know who/where you got it from, go to them to make reparations or you can report they sold you stolen goods... IMO, even though it says "LOST" and Sony can't/won't do anything about it, technically it is stolen.

So this can play games fine, just not online?

"Lost" is likely corporate lawyer speak. Sony would not be involved in a police report, and the police won't waste time on a relatively low dollar item unless it's delivered to them.

It's like when I had a large rebate stolen. It was highly likely it was stolen at a mail sort center. I knew the exact time, date and location where it was redeemed. It was a store I've never been to, and conveniently in the city where the mail sort center is that supplies our local PO. All the stores have cameras at entry and check-out, and it requires a signature to redeem (stupidly no id). I know I'll never see that money, but if it was PO employee they need to get hammered. Sadly there have been multiple PO employees fired for this exact thing in states nearby.

Scalpers are unloading their stock hard lately so look for used prices to go down (selling something as new that it turns out doesn't have a warranty's a great case for a no questions asked return on pretty much any payment platform).

No, they're just worth less than they paid for them, and they'll continue to drop in price so now stock is a liability, they have to liquidate.

I've seen quite a few folks on Marketplace groups near me trying to re-sell used PS5s and Xbox Series consoles as new simply because they only played it once or twice... it's ridiculous they think they can get back what they paid.
