I think that's the best kind of remaster, like Ocarina of Time on 3DS. You look at screenshots and think, "Well, that doesn't look very different" and then you compare it side by side and realize how much of an improvement it is.

Stupid name, but I'm sold, lots of memories on the originals

I guess after doubling down on Mario (Super Mario Bros starring Mario Mario) they decided to be a little more mysterious.

I mean, you can’t give away everything in the title. I get it. Sonic the Hedgehog starring Sonic the Hedgehog is a little on the nose. Spider-Man starring Peter Parker, though… there’s something there. Not so much for Spider-Man Miles Morales starring Miles Morales, though.

I still think Tomb Raider Anniversary on X360 looks a little better, but maybe a simple resolution bump overcomes that.

I don't think these games look great, although given the gameplay and geometry limitations of the original releases I think I'm going to enjoy the straight-forward style of these. I remember some of the puzzle rooms felt overly complex at the time but they probably seem more obvious now.

I'm going to wait until the collection is released. The tank controls of the original releases make them a chore to go back to.

If they modernized the controls a bit, I could see myself picking this up on Xbox or PS5.

Do we know yet if they're going to sell the remastered Tomb Raider games individually or only as a bundle?

I haven't heard anything about separating, it looks like it's only being sold as all 3.

I have beaten almost every Tomb Raider but never beat 3 or 5. 3 is such a PITA.

I'm surprised they went with remasters of the trilogy instead of just the first two games. Tomb Raider III was where you could tell the series was starting to decline in quality, and it being a different development team might have had something to do with that.

Digital Foundry has taken a look at the Tomb Raider remasters.

Seems to run fine on everything. 4K/60fps on the big boy consoles, 1440p/60 on medium boy console (Series S) and 1080p/60 or 720p/60 on Switch (docked/handheld), even hits 90fps on Steam Deck. He didn't test it on PS4 or Xbox One.

Playing in classic mode limits the frame-rate to 30fps just like the original games ran at but also introduces some issues with frame pacing. "This makes the game look and feel jerky, with additional judder, on every console."

I've been reading a lot of bad things about this. Mostly that the updated controls might feel better but since the games are based on a grid system, it's really tough to line up jumps with that added freedom.

so far not bad. the new graphics are pretty good , except the lighting is a little DARK, but switching to old mode brightens it up quite a bit.
i have only been playing the Tank controls so far. On xbox one the controls are not as great as the PS1, sometimes the left turning button doesnt really do its job in corners while using the walk button.

Cheat Codes work, full ammo lol.

Man I wish these remasters would come with physical releases... I am glad I picked up the Mega Man battle network collection... same with the cowabunga collection. I was pretty pissed that the Jurassic Park collection was not seeing a physical release.. I really don't want to use limited run games... Oh well.

Nice to see this running well on last gen hardware. I will look into this, been a hot minute since I played these gems.

The Embracer Group that bought Crystal Dynamics from Square Enix acquired the Legacy of Kain series. I hope they do a new one.

They should remaster Soul Reaver 1 and 2 and the Blood Omen's the same way as this with choosing between old and new graphics.

Trouble is that the Embracer group has basically turned 95% of what they bought into layoffs, so I'd more expect them to layoff the Crystal Dynamics team vs releasing virtually anything from them, especially a remaster of a somewhat less popular franchise like Kain.
