PiemJi's Memorial

PiemJi passed away on March 28, 2012.

PiemJi had been a regular on GameTZ for nearly 11 years. He was often in chat and wrote a very sophisticated chat script for mIRC users that provided many fantastic features.

PiemJi had a tremendous influence on GameTZ. He will be missed.

If you'd like to add something to this memorial page, please pm bill or email with the message and I'll add it for you.

I always really liked PiemJi, I mean, after all, he gave me a great deal on Grim Fandango and Sanitarium ( two of my all time favorites). The guy always knew what he was talking about, very wise as it would seem. His jokes were as corny as ever, and he was all in all a great guy (who always wanted me to buy his mIRC script, but never had my one non-school oriented computer to use it). Have a great time in heaven PiemJi, and Rest in Peace. My heart and condolences go with his family...

What can I say about PeimJi? He was a great guy and a cornerstone in TZ chat. He was never rude to anybody, including those that were rude to him. He was always telling jokes (some were funny) but most were lame, but through it all he was always a very good spirited guy that never had anything bad to say about anybody. I'd have to say that he was the most helpful member I've ever encountered on this site, like my buddy BucketofJustice, he helped me countless times setting up mIRC, and fixing any problems that would ever arise... as a matter of fact, he held my hand through a long drawn out process of fixing mIRC right before his passing...

Peim... thank you for all your help with everything, and for all the kindness you've ever shown me. My god rest your soul. Rest in Peace, Jerky.

Even though you constantly bugged me about using mIRC instead of Java, I'm going to miss you buddy. Then when I got mIRC, you bugged me until I got the advanced script. I didn't want to at first, but I'm glad I did now. You were so nice to everyone and always helping people out.. and we can't forget your corny jokes either. We'll miss you frown love

from BucketofJustice
I'll miss PiemJi in chat a lot. He had to help me with setting mIRC up on 3 different computers. Since I'm borderline-dumb-as-rocks about that kind of stuff, he helped me with every step. Every time. He also did it without showing even a little frustration with me, and I'm sure I deserved a slap upside the head and a "It's not brain surgery, dummy.". I'll miss him always trying to get me to play the games he loaded onto the Advanced script, and when I would I could never win. He always gave me little hints like "It's not that hard.". I'll miss just PMing with him. He was a good friend, even if we never talked about much of anything substantial.

RIP PiemJi. Thanks for everything!

When I was trying to track down what might have happened to PiemJi, I found a web page that mentioned him. I talked to the owner of the page briefly. Here's part of what he said:

PiemJi was a talented and prolific writer of software for the early Radio Shack (Tandy) laptop computers (Models 100, 102, 200). He created terrific and very helpful code in the 1980's and early 1990's. He published many helpful articles in a magazine of the period called "Portable 100 Magazine" published by Terry Kepner. The "ModelT" user community continues even today (www.club100.org). Much of PiemJi's work still resides in the archives as he turned it over to all of us hobbyists many years ago.

from Sparta
Piem was a very important part of TZ. He was very dedicated and very helpful. He was also a very kind person with a great taste in technology and music. He always shared a few of his stories and it would have been nice to be able to hear more about him. I talked to him almost every day in chat and it will continue to feel like something is missing with his absence. RIP PiemJi.

I didn't know him very well, but I talked with PiemJi in chat years ago and he seemed like a very nice guy. I know he was very active on the forums and in chat and well liked by many. He will be sadly missed. May he RIP

from Scott
I didn't know PiemJi as well as many others, mostly because I don't use chat. but my impression from the forums was that he was a very kind, helpful person. Reading all that has been said about him, he was clearly very selfless and patient. He was someone I would like to be more like. He will be missed.

There was many a night several years back where it was just me and PiemJi sitting in chat, he used to tell me about his old jobs in the early days of computers that I always found interesting. I always saw him as much of a part of the site as Bill, like the overlord of chat. GTZ just won't be quite the same without him.

from RULost119
PiemJi wasn't just another user to the chat regulars. He was a fixture. An institution. As much a part of GTZ as bill in a way. When he wasn't offering his free mIRC script, helping people setup their chat, or giving them general advice he was offering another lame joke that still managed to make you chuckle, making a witty observation, or talking about the music of his generation. I enjoyed playing many games of chess or connect four with him through his script. I wish I had returned to chat sooner than I did. I hate that I will never get to play another round with him. RIP PiemJi... GTZ is a little darker not having you.

from rightontargt4
Piem was a great guy and always noticed instantly when I wasn't using my advanced script - asking why I wasn't. Now I have to ask HIM, "Where are you Piem?"

Hopefully he's safe wherever he's traveled to.

from Shadowrunner
PiemJi was a great guy and will truly be missed. I remember when I used chat a lot he would always be the first person to say hi and then ask me why I wasn't using his advanced script. Rest In Peace buddy.

from Raisin
PiemJi was a very influential and unique figure in the GameTZ community. His goal was to make the trading experience better in chat and he will be truly missed by all of us... I will miss him personally because he loved to talk, play games in chat and just educate the young ones...He wasn't like any other user here... I will never forget the impact PiemJi had on myself and GameTZ.

Much Love... he will be dearly missed.

I remember Piemji from the time I began on this site. He was a really cool mellow guy that was fun to have around in chat. I really enjoyed his jokes and the conversations we had about things like technology and music. Really shocked to see he passed away. Chat will never be the same without him. RIP

from Toasty
PiemJi came up with a great alternative to go on the chat with. Using his script, you could be on chat for as long as you want without an automated message contacting you that you're inactive before being disconnected. He always nagged those who didn't use the script, but not in a mean way. Script or not, the chat really isn't the same without PiemJi's presence. Sadly he may be gone, but his work will live on and his contributions will not go unnoticed. R.I.P

from Meyer
From the first time I jumped into the chat on GTZ Piem approached me to get mIRC and his advanced script. Over the years he had helped me set up mIRC (and his script) on numerous PC's and could not have been nicer about it, even when I may get slightly annoyed. He was truly an asset to the GameTZ community and his contributions will continue to live on through the great memories we all have of him and in the form of his script he wrote for the site. Here's to you Piem, you have my gratitude and my thanks and you will not be forgotten.

from Dasgessabel
I am among the probable very few who didn't get a chance to interact with PiemJi too much, and for that, I feel like I've missed out. He was a beloved member of the GameTz community, and went above and beyond to help out those who needed it. I wish the best for his family in this troubled time, and to let them know he will be missed.

from TrueBlue
Rest in peace PiemJi. Everyone in chat is gonna miss you. Yea you annoyed me about your script all the time but it was all in good fun. I met you the first day I joined this site and it was a pleasure hanging out in chat everyday with you. You had a great sense of humor and it sucks that your gone. We'll miss you but never forget you.

from ShishioMakoto
May he rest in peace, The mIRC master of GTZ.

from willyum
PiemJi was always in the chat room on the rare times I actually loaded up mIRC, and always had something interesting to say, be it a humorous anecdote or a comment on things in general. He was always very patient, courteous, and willing to walk (and re-walk) me through setting up mIRC. Thanks for everything PiemJi. I shall miss you greatly.

from Syne49
Wow, what could possibly even be said? I had been looking into chat for the past week or two wondering where he went. Piemji was always ready with a greeting and a very warming attitude. He would always PM and offer helpful advice, and without him I wouldn't know anything of the script he gave to me. He was patient and though he had to tell me things several times he never got frustrated. He was patient, kind, and will be greatly missed. Chat will always seem lonely now that he is gone. My condolences to any family members, and I pray mercy fall on them in this tough time. Take care man. You will always be missed.

I recently heard of PiemJi's passing. I have never met him personally because i joined the site on 4/1, but I use his mIRC script and looking at his coding i can tell he is a very brilliant man. I've never created a script myself but i have a lot of web. database, and desktop application experience so i know what all is involved, so i can tell he had his head on straight, and it's a shame to lose such a dedicated coder and fellow GTZ member.

from Tad
Piem passing has struck me pretty hard, I've known him almost the whole time I've been a member here. I was the first to get his advanced mirc script, and for the past year or so I'd start my day with coffee and hanging out in chat with him. My best wishes go to his family and him. Chat seems so empty without him. You were a good man Piem, and a damn good friend.

from Frank
Well where do I begin? I remember back when I first joined GameTZ. I used to be very active when it came to chat. I was always on there talking and trying to make deals. I always used the "Advanced Script" but I was at a time where I constantly switched which computer I was using. I used to annoy PiemJi whenever I needed to upgrade to the advanced script again. He always helped me every time, but I felt bad as I asked him dozens of times. I eventually stopped using the chat on here as things got busier around here. I just recently started using chat again, and I noticed Pie wasn't there. I was a little surprised, as he used to be on chat, what seemed like, 24 hours a day. I just figured he didn't use it much anymore. I just found out a few minutes prior to typing this. Pie was one of my favorite GameTZ users, he was a very good guy, and worked hard to make mIRC the best option for chat. Rest in peace man, I'm sorry for bothering you so many times with the script! frown
