... when this new kid graduates!

Jesus christ. We were trying for a third about ~2 years ago, never happened, and we just gave up. Truth be told, we got lazy and decided we're too old (I turn 41 this year, my wife will be 40). This past December, we finally purged all baby stuff, EVERYTHING and my god did it feel good. So much room reclaimed, so much less clutter.

Well, and just like that, we found out we're prego! We were super nervous because of the high risk factor given her age. Last week we had a positive 12 week ultra-sound, and yesterday we got a clean bill of health on the genetic testing.

This is us sharing the news with our kid last night! The first two minutes are awesome and reminds you how sweet and innocent kids are, and not to take life so seriously!

Dude, more power to you. Based on your future age at graduation, I assume you're about 1-2 years younger than me. I have 4, and my youngest is 10. I love my kids to death, but I could NEVER start again. I'm TIRED. I could never go back to diapers and baths and kids destroying my house.

Good luck and congrats!

EDIT - I missed the part where you said you are 41. I am 42, so I stand by my comment.

Congrats and good luck! My mom had my brother at around that age (40ish), it was a 10 year gap between me and him. He seemed to have turned out fine health-wise when he was born (the sports concussions came later!).

Congrats dude. I always wanted 3-4 but man it's just too rough on my body. So our Leo (born last April) is our last. I still am not ruling out an adoption down the road, but I'm probably getting a hysterectomy in the next year or two due to multiple issues. I'll be 56 when my youngest is 18 which sends me into a total exitensial panic. We spend most of our days completely exhausted. I wish we could have had them earlier but am happy we are more financially stable now so maybe it is better and they'll keep us young.

I feel this. @40, I feel so old... But things happen when they're supposed to. I'd give anything to have more energy and be way more active vs legit ready to nap after a long ass day of work! Still, while having them young has obvious advantages, it definitely has disadvantages elsewhere.

Just got Logan a kickass trek mountain bike today, upgrading from a crappy Walmart training wheels bike! Looking forward to getting more outdoor with him, having another positive way to stay energetic!

Regardless, how did we all get so damn old? Ugh.

It's nuts... I was thinking yesterday how my mom was 33 when they bought their first house and it felt like they were so damn old. I'm about to be 39. I think people are staying active and acting younger longer though so that's cool. As tired as I am all the time I think being active with my kids will keep me that way. So maybe having kids later in life is the best way. I grew up poor with young parents so I prefer how it worked out I guess.

But yeah I don't know how we got so old so fast.. needs to slow the hell down!!

Well... We're down to just a few weeks left. Docs think the kid will be here ahead of schedule because (and I quote) "your kid is the size of Montana". He measured full term at 34 weeks.

My poor wife is struggling with this one. She's so ready to be done.

We're scheduled for Aug 30th, but probably a week or two earlier at this rate.

Have a kid a third kid at 41! - said no one ever, haha. Honestly though, pretty stoked. Grand scheme, woulda liked to have 4.

We did our 36 week ultrasound yesterday ... 10lb, 1oz! Yeah, this is gonna be a BIG boy!

She just did a 3 hour glucose test today. There's a good chance she may have gestational diabetes, which would mean, the kid is coming early.

If not, we're scheduled for Aug 30th, but doesn't seem like we're gonna make it that long. The size of this kid, he's gonna start kicking down the door with a beer in hand.

Finally settling/sitting down (midnight) ... Nolan was born at 148pm, 21in, 10lb!

Today was... rough. We had some pretty intense scares throughout the day. Really REALLY poor execution and communication post delivery. Trying to stay calm about it but the Hospital clearly could (and still may) have really screwed up and cause serious long term damage.

Needless to say, I almost started World War 3. There was some hardcore negligence and misssteps that truly are inexcusable. There's no world in which how they handled, was OK. It's a new location for Rainbow Babies (nationally known as one of the best), processes aren't fully known, bad organization and orchestration that ultimately left me quarter backing and WebMDing.

They sent him to the NICU right around 8pm and I followed shortly thereafter. My wife Lori just showed up about an hour ago as we had to wait on an independent transportation service...

For now, things are cool, calm, stable. Lori is finally getting to spend time with him.

Mom is healthy, Nolan appears to be good, but we're in a 36 hour monitoring window.

Chaotic and scary day, but new doc has us largely in a good spot with assurances that things are going well!

Optimistic that all is well and we'll be home Friday/Saturday! Happy he's here and can't wait to introduce him to his siblings!

Congrats MrBean!! I am sorry they might have botched things... they are human but still very hard to have that happen to you. I hope there's no lasting issues. How is Nolan doing in the NICU? We spent 3-4 days in there for our Leo for temperature/feeding/blood sugar issues. Scary thing but those nurses are usually spectacular so I'm sure they will handle things perfectly!!

Glad all is well and sorry for that nightmare. My small stint in healthcare really reinforced that there are a LOT of amazing workers, but the higher ups will let them work themselves to death and even make things worse in the workplace on top of that with stupid stuff. They are used to the influx of new people into healthcare and acted like if they burned you out, there were 3 more just as good waiting in the wings.

That is not the case and hasn't been for awhile. Even in places that are renown for their care: the healthcare professionals are inexperienced and screw up a LOT. I just had a co-worker's daughter go through a similar thing you did with their at risk delivery. It's crazy.

Well, he came home yesterday, not completely out of a few danger areas (have follow ups with Neurologist). Unfortunately last night was pretty rough. He ended up breaking out in a fever and we're back in the NICU.

They've already confirmed one problem - rhino virus (yes, my kid is Rocksteady), waiting on additional updates.

We had a feeling this one was gonna be rough...

Yah, we were like $500 away from out of pocket max before going in, it's all covered (thankfully).
