Topic Keeping topics open longer / searchable forum topics

Is it possible to extend the default close time to say ... 6 months? Feels like topics close down too soon, but may be for good reason.

A good use case is that too many damn games come out now a days. Unless you're playing at release, you may miss the community chat on a game. Once you dive in, you have to start a fresh thread which seems less than ideal.

Secondary to this request - how hard would it be to have a search for Forum Topics? I find myself looking for old topics by simply clicking through the forums, but would be awesome if we could search!

There is a forum search. Are you on new layout, old layout, or mobile?

Sure. It was set to close after 4 weeks without a new post. I changed it to 180 days.

OK, that topic is re-opened now.

I think there's already a way to do that. Click 'subjects' on the "What to Search" line on the https://gametz.com/ForumSearch.html page.

Wait, really? I've been on here for 20+ years and I didn't even realize we had that Search link ... I always looked at the search buttons (Items/User), wow, I feel super smart.

I believe if it is your thread and you are a subscriber you can reopen topics yourself.

Correct, but we can't open others ... which ... maybe that's a good idea? Another sub offering? Open others closed topics! ha

The way it's currently coded, if I extended it to any topic, it would allow people to close any topic as well.

I think changing the auto-close time from 28 days to 180 days should make this less needed regardless.

I could re-open all topics that were closed in the last 180 days perhaps... nah, this would cause some issues with topics that got split and some other special cases.
