Remember when these guys used to innovate gameplay? The only innovation left in AAA Studios lately (by and large, big fat stinkers from SquareEnix aside) seems to be in trying to reduce capex and maximize returns on existing property and works. You used to be able to do both!

I mean, sure, yeah. But ultimately the games they make don't interest me. RDR was pretty bad too. But since how insanely popular their games are, my boycott will do nothing

6-Oct-2023(#9)Did anyone else play the Iki expansion on Ghost of Tsushima? Mine is super glitchy. So far I have actually seen the programing string that ties a rider to its horse (a literal white line on screen) and saw him slingshot back to the horse, I've fallen off of the top of a mountain and just been fine, and I had a death screen after getting a pillar of honor because "A Peasant Died." Just weird all around.

I didn’t have any of the glitches. Did ps4 and 5.
Orlandu
6-Oct-2023(#11)Huh. I didn't have many glitches during the main game, mostly normal open world stuff. Is there a button combo that makes yellow Xes appear over all of the enemies heads? That seems to happen to me randomly.

* 7-Oct-2023(#14)Of course game developers always cared about money, but what sucks these days compared to the old days is how expensive is it to make a game so a company like Rockstar doesn't take a chance with a game like Bully 2 or new IP they just stick to what makes them the most money like GTA and RDR, not that those games are bad at all in fact they're great but still. It's not only just money, a game like GTA 6 takes 3-5 years to make now so they don't have time for the lesser games either. On PS2 we got 3 GTAs each 2 years apart while in the same generation we got two more PSP GTAs, Bully, Red Dead Revolver and Manhunt 1 and 2 and a few other games all developed by Rockstar in one generation, that is not even close to possible anymore.

Are they ones that did shadow of the collossus and demon's souls or someone else? My hope would be Legend of Dragoon 2!! Naughty Dog isn't going to let anyone else do Uncharted. And since Sony has given them Sony liscenses in the past. We have to think about game series that maybe have been abandoned by their previous studios.
It could be anything like Ape Escape, Legend of Dragoon 2, Jak and Daxter (now this one is definitely abandoned by naughty dog), Dark Cloud, Twisted Metal. I mean Sony has a deep bag of abandoned good IPs.

How dare you put such wishful thinking into the universe. But if I remember correctly, Level-5 has been wanting to do a sequel to DC for a long time. Seems things just haven't lined up for them which sucks. At this point, I'd even take a Rogue Galaxy 2 from them

Won’t happen. Sony owns the IPs and Level-5 isn’t what it used to be. I’d lose my mind if we got a new Dark Cloud or Rogue Galaxy, but Sony is too busy moneyhatting Final Fantasy and hasn’t cared about making JRPGs of its own in a long, long time.

I thought Naughty Dog was done was Uncharted, but I would prefer they make the next Uncharted anyway. I would guess their next game is going to be Last of Us 3 but we'll see.
And yes Bluepoint remade Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls. If I had my choice of which game they'd be making it'd be Shadow of the Colossus 2 probably.

While it was on the Vita a handheld, Bend Studios made Uncharted Golden Abyss not Naughty Dog. So it's not impossible an Uncharted game could be made by a different studio than Naughty Dog.
I wonder why they never ported that game to PS4 or PS5.
Bend Studios that also did Days Gone that I also enjoyed. I thought for sure they disbanded and left Sony after Days Gone wasn't getting a sequel and the main dev bad mouthed Sony for it, but I guess they're working on something for PS5.

I liked it but favorite? GTA V, RDR 2, Phantom Pain, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War and Ragnarok both Horizons were all open world PS4 games.

8-Oct-2023(#29)@justin_credible Yep. I don't play GTA, RDR, or MGS games, and I enjoyed it more than the rest you listed. My order goes Days Gone, God of War, Horizon, then Ghost of Tsushima. I didn't enjoy the God of War or Horizon sequels.

I dont consider GOW "open world". I would compare the GoW world with previous Zelda Games (Ocarina, etc). Where as Breath of the Wild has an open world like AC, Horizon, etc.

10-Oct-2023(#40)I paid $599 for a PS3 what was I thinking. As for the slim PS5, I think they should stop making the disc version and just sell the digital with optional drive. Keep it simple.
I am going to keep my space shuttle.
Anxiouz
10-Oct-2023(#43)So dumb for the slim to not have a drive and be more expensive. In the past the slim models were a cost savings to Sony to produce. So if things just cost more to make, I get it, but why did they even bother making this and not just carry on with the OG digital?

10-Oct-2023(#48)justin_credible wrote:> Am I mistaken or weren't Slims usually cheaper than the original model when they

Well yeah, but why do that when you can charge more and then upcharge the upgrade path moving forward?
In all seriousness the bluray drive being modular is actually huge. So many PS3s (and I'm presuming PS4s) just end up in the junkyard when the optical drive takes a crap. Now, presuming Sony continues manufacturing them, you can just swap in a new one as needed because the system was designed to let you do that. Actually gigantic.

10-Oct-2023(#49)So far my PS5 is working perfectly so no need to buy that. It didnt change much either. I was expecting it to be cheaper than the current though.
IMO $400 would have been a good price for holidays.

To be fair, Sony has been making a lot of anti-consumer pro corporation decisions as of late. Need I remind everyone of the recent PS+ price hike?

Oh it's absolutely n64 inspired. The Facebook ad I saw had Mario music and quotes in it.
Using a combo of blue and orange looks sweet.
Agreed, it's a bit pricey. You also gotta get the lights, so it makes it $100.

* 26-Oct-2023(#64)They're doing it so people don't insert hacked bluray drives into the system but the result is the same. Once the servers are down, this is a brick to hold your door open. A $550 brick in this case. With 30% less volume than the system that will end up working longer.
The only upside is now on a timer. The end result is purely negative. If you're buying physical PS5/PS4 games to play them after the servers are down, you should never be buying a slimline system. Drive is now a temporary media interface.

Most games are unplayable/extremely broken without patches. I just prefer discs over digital for consoles cause the sales aren't nearly as good as Steam.

27-Oct-2023(#74)Nintendo I think is the exception where digital is much better price than carts
Anxiouz
27-Oct-2023(#75)Sony has never been excited about BC or preserving previous gen experiences on new systems. PS2 couldn't play all PSX titles, PS3 was only BC for a little while, PS4 wasn't at all, and PS5 feels like it sloppily shoe-horned it in only because MS made such a big deal about it.
If a PS5 Pro comes out and no longer played PS4 discs, I honestly wouldn't be surprised. I also wouldn't be terribly interested.
Orlandu
27-Oct-2023(#77)I'll buy digital if it's a $10 or less console game (not worth resale), or if it's a game I will play a ton over time like Diablo 3. Most of the games I play are one and done, so resale value is important. If digital games had transferrable licenses I probably would stop buying physical.

Yeah I didn't like seeing that they were making a semi major game like that digital only. Hope it's not a trend.
