7-Jan-2022(#1)Other thread died. Playoffs about to happen. Not a ton of seeding drama outside of a couple games. Chiefs pissed away the 1 seed, although it was entertaining. Chargers-Raiders interesting. Rams-9rs. AB is a nut job. Anywho...
Thoughts on current awards lines (this is if you understand money lines)... I see what I think is a fairly low risk bet. Rodgers is currently -400 for MVP. National media is pushing hard for Rodgers being unanimous MVP. I think Brady has a chance, but Rodgers ain't doing anything to hurt his case this weekend, and Brady ain't setting records or taking the 1 seed. Enter my #2 guy, Kupp. He's likely winning the triple crown, and could beat CJ's single season yardage record. A $100 bet on Rodgers covers any losses on a $30 bet on Kupp. Rodgers wins, you get pocket change. Kupp wins you win a few hundred. Brady wins and you lose. Taylor has an outside chance, but he's not breaking any records or the 2000 yard mark in a 17 game season. The other bet, which might be better is bet 30 on Kupp for MVP and 100 for OpotY. He wins the triple crown and he should get one of them. Only think stopping him is if Chase gets 3 more TDs than Kupp, or Taylor has a historic game.
I budget $100 each season for bets. Haven't placed any this season. Thoughts from any casual betters?
(Also intend for this to be the general NFL thread for the post season.. not just betting thoughts though that's welcome)
Edit: Generic betting disclaimer: Bet for fun, don't bet what you can't lose, seek help if you have a problem, any thoughts in this thread are not representative of GameTZ or @Bill (lest he states something), this is not intended as financial advice., etc.

2-Jan-2023(#125)Haven't been following NFL much this season but saw the play and, man, that is horrifying. Not looking good unfortunately. My thoughts and positive vibes go out to Hamlin and his family, and any fans of his. What a terrible situation.

I think you like so many others misinterpreted his post. He literally said the importance of this game is irrelevant...
I'm not a Skip fan, but ESPN milking this is much worse. They continue to speculate and discuss continuing this game. Cut the broadcast.

2-Jan-2023(#128)It's just the fact that he's even contemplating the season in the midst of all this happening in real time. If he truly felt it was irrelevant, he should have probably just chilled for the night. I agree ESPN's coverage is worse (though the commentators seemed to have handled it with grace), but Bayless still sharing speculation right now is a little obnoxious too.

* 2-Jan-2023(#130)That's good news at least, let's hope he pulls it out!
If the CPR saves him from brain damage after not breathing on his own for so long, those medics deserve all the praise in the world. I'm no doctor though, so I don't know how likely/unlikely that is.

They defibbed on the field too apparently. The response was very good regardless of the outcome. Hoping it was fast enough.

Of course he is, he had medical issues that affected his career. Thankfully he got them diagnosed and avoided problematic situations.
JJ Watt had a heart condition this offseason, had surgery, and announced his retirement last week.
We don't know what happened here yet, but everyone is hoping for the best.

2-Jan-2023(#134)Apparently, the coaches and players were the reason the game got postponed, not the nfl.
Also, Ryan Clark is right, these players will need mental health checks after seeing this
Also, what is tee Higgins thinking right now?

2-Jan-2023(#136)I guess the NFL gave the players 5 minutes to get back to the field before the game was officially suspended due to nobody wanting to play... after 10 minutes of active CPR trying to save a player's life. That's just fudging gross... but tbh that's nothing really new for the NFL's management.
Some physicians have theorized that it was cardiac rhythm disturbance... I forget the actual term for it. Essentially the electric pulse getting interrupted by trauma during a critical moment in the heartbeat. Obviously nobody knows for sure yet, but that is a real scary concept.

Yea they're ok at QB. Probably trade down from 2 even. I want them to shore up the O-line vs a defensive player.

Fantastic medical response helped a lot. There was a hockey player that had this happen who went on to still have a long career as well. Kids in highschool generally aren't as fortunate because there isn't going to be much if any medical staff on hand.
So glad to hear good news on this.

5-Jan-2023(#143)I definitely think the NFL will change their sideline medical training to have AED's and other things to never have this happen again.

5-Jan-2023(#145)Glad to hear Damar is doing much better. I don't follow the NFL that closely anymore but there's several articles from long before this happened to showcase his character. He really seems like a good guy trying to do the right things in life (ex: dude was working before high school to help support his family, he started the childrens toy drive, etc). When watching sports, people sometimes forget these are real people out there.

There's nothing to change. They had AEDs. They had everything they needed to give this young man the best chance to live. They have an emergency action plan (EAP) which outlines this, and it was executed in this instance, by all accounts very well.
I wish I could find the article that detailed it so well, but the gist of it is they have a pregame meeting at every NFL game with all medical personnel (home team, away team, independent... 15+ people). They go over the location of all medical devices including AEDs. They also have EMTs with an 'advanced' ambulance somewhere on site that can access the field, usually near the stadium tunnel entrance. All exits are discussed and multiple routes to all medical facilities within 30 minutes are laid out per the article.
It was the only article I saw on it early yesterday from a site I never heard of, now I can't find it as it's buried by every other major news source.

FYI - it's part of the CBA between the NFL and NFLPA.
Wife just showed me a report that shortly after gaining consciousness he asked via writing who won the game. That's really good news if he's conscious and lucid. (I have not seen anything other than that tweet)
Edit: Apparently that's from earlier this afternoon. Great news for the young man.

* 5-Jan-2023(#150)https://www.nfl.com/news/week-17-buffalo-cincinnat...Buf-Cin declared no contest, will not resume. This hands Cinnci the division regardless of the outcome on Sunday, unless they play Bal in the first round then the home team will be decided by a coin toss. Possible neutral AFCCG site if teams played an uneven amount of games and "tied" for the 1 seed.
Assuming I read that all correctly, I find it odd they give the Bengels the division and coin toss for home field if they match up with Bal, but the AFCCG in a similar scenario goes to a neutral site for the 1 seeds. Totally understand there is no answer that will appease the masses though.
Edit: Proposals on seeding going to a vote on Friday it seems.

6-Jan-2023(#151)Happy to hear Hamlin is improving a little everyday. So scary to see.
I'm happy for my lions. After a few really bad seasons and starting 1-6, we finally have turned the corner. We have a lot of holes on defense so I don't expect anything one way or another this season, but with 2 firsts and 2 second picks coming up, I think we can get some more studs.

6-Jan-2023(#154)They've gotta be the sentimental favorites at this point. With the Patriots being an absolute sack of crap since Brady left, I've been a bit out of the NFL loop, so I'm rooting for the Bills personally.

* 6-Jan-2023(#156)Yea...not looking forward to Pats playing IN Buffalo, while the Bills are playing with all of the emotion of this week and for Damar. I've made a living despising the Bills, but I just can't this week. I foresee the Pats taking the L and getting booted out of the playoffs...I must take that graciously. On the other hand, Pats win and they're in. I hope they play tough as well. Just give us a good game!
