One possibility is a "vocally silent world". Umm, what? That will not happen. One thing is for certain, the supporting characters in Zelda games are weird. Think about Tingle , Skull Kid, Beedle, Hestu, or any of the Gorons or Zoras. It'll be weird. Also, what about the overly flamboyant carpenters in OoT or Bolson in BotW. The Zelda team loves flamboyant carpenters.

I almost want to see a "vocally silent" Zelda movie. I mean, it would obviously be fine WITH dialogue, but if they made a super artsy adventure movie without dialogue, I think that could be very cool and unique.

EDIT: Uh oh, I woke up the shadow negger. Hope all is well best bud, missed you!

Lots of Nintendo games have that almost speech noise with subtitles. Prolly that.

Uh ... yeah, a movie of nothing but grunts and moans, what more could you want?

haha, my wife isn't into games, but anytime I play a game (like BotW) where all she hears constantly in the background is the grunts, she can't help herself but constantly make fun and turn her dialogue into said grunts

I think vocally silent would work for a short film.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I think Illumination is a good fit for the Mario movie, but based on their body of work, I don't think they could make a good Zelda movie. A Zelda movie would need to be much more serious IMO, but everything they've done is pretty goofy.

They were told to mimic the old cartoon, perfect fit. "Exxxccccuuuussseeee Me Princess! "

I'm thinking about this. And I agree. A Zelda movie can't be humorous overall. What can they do with this? Ganondorf loose in a city wreaking havok and Link trying to stop him? Hmmmm. I obviously hope that if a Zelda movie is released that it's great, but I really don't know what to expect.

It all depends on the creative team they bring in. I feel like (hope) they’d have enough awareness of the franchise to understand it can’t be ALL humor. That said, I feel like the humor of the Zelda franchise is often downplayed. There’s lots of subtle silliness in most of the games, with colorful characters acting goofy. I mean look at most of the more memorable side characters… they’re all strange and quirky.

I think with the right writers, Illumination could easily write an epic, heartfelt fantasy story with the same sort of comic relief and to be honest, I feel they’d need to. That’s all part of it - there just needs to be a good balance.

Plus if it’s not going to be live action, Illumination is probably the best chance we get at a decent animated Zelda movie. I mean there’s Pixar, but we know that’s not happening, and then the only other notable animation studio I could believably see Nintendo partnering with is Dreamworks and THAT studio is the epitome of “hit or miss”. I feel like Illumination is probably the best bet for us fans of the games unless they decide to go live action and we all know how the world reacts whenever THAT rumor pops back up.

Humor is fine. An animated kids movie definitely needs it's fair share of it. But Illumination's typical style of humor does not seem like a good fit to me. I'd love to see them do a good job though. I'll definitely give it a chance.

Yeah the Minions style humor definitely wouldn't work, but that's why it comes down to the team they bring in. I have faith they can find the right people as long as they're not so stuck on sticking to their more goofy humor.

Hopefully they're ready to evolve past their "safe spot". Heck, if New Line can pivot to Lord of the Rings after doing Nightmare On Elm Street, anything can happen haha. Crossing the ol' fingers.

Maybe they can give Link around the same number of lines of dialogue as Tom Hardy had in Mad Max.
