I don't have a specific model recommendation but I would recommend getting one with true 120 HZ refresh rate. Be careful with the terminology too, some brands will say their TV is 120 HZ but if you look it up, you will find it is actually only 60 HZ. You want a true 120 HZ TV if you will be playing games or watching sports on the TV. You may also want to do some research on the various types of HDR TV's offer. HDR will make the colors look a lot more vivid and bright. I know they have HDR+ but I'm not sure what the latest tech is in this area.

I would personally avoid off brands as well. I also know several people who had major issues with Vizio TVs (this was 5+ years ago though, maybe they have improved)? I would probably go with a Sony or Samsung TV if it were me. But it all depends on your budget.

Yeah i been looking around for true hdr and 120 hz. No point in playing games if its gonna be 60 max. A lot of Sony seem to fit what I want. Just branching out and seeing if anyone here has any input :)

How about an LG OLED? Seems like those have been all the rage for the last few years for those who can afford them.

REALLY do research.. Every TV now regardless of price will say that it supports HDMI 2.1 may not support all the features 2.1 has. In order for a TV to be certified 2.1 it only has to support 1 of the 2.1 features. So if you see a super cheap TV and it says it supports HDMI 2.1 be careful because you may not be getting what you think you are.

My last two TVs have been LG OLEDs, and I love them both.

Start with a budget that you can afford, don't go into debt for a TV. Find 2-3 TVs that are in your budget now and 2-3 TVs that are outside your budget. Watch for the sales Amazon is doing their Prime Big Deal Day on the 10th, then the pre-Black Friday sales start happening, then Black Friday.

LG, Sony and Samsung are all going have great offerings. OLED is the way to go for movies, the deep blacks can't be beat. If money wasn't an issue, I'd go with the Sony A95K. If money was a small issue, then I'd go with a Samsung S90C or an LG C2. If OLED is out of the budget, I'd go for the Hisense U8K. I personally have the Hisense U8H and have been pretty happy and I've only heard better things about the U8K.

Rtings.com is a great resource and I pretty much picked all of this from their recent article: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/tvs-on-the-...

Rtings is a great resource if you're looking for the right TV.

This may not apply to you but just be sure you want/need a fancy TV. I think it's common for people, guys especially, to have the "best" technology just for their own satisfaction that they have the best rather than actually deriving any additional enjoyment from a better picture. I can't say I'll never get a high-end TV but I will say that I've had a sub-$300 TCL 55-inch TV for about 5 years and I don't really feel deprived.

When it comes to content it honestly never really crosses my mind while I'm watching or gaming that the picture quality is deficient and that I wish I had a better TV. The picture is still far better than anything I grew up with. I'm just more focused on what I'm consuming and don't really think about the picture so much.

Now that's me and you could be very different in your appreciation of TV picture quality. And if you do appreciate an excellent picture then by all means get the TV of your dreams. Because obviously the price difference is huge and I know for me I could use that money on stuff I care about more.

Agree with what @Staraang is saying. Having a top of the line TV doesn't make a world of difference if you can't see the difference. If you're watching a bunch of upscaled content, you're most likely better off getting an Nvidia Shield to handle the upscaling and a decent 4k TV. I'd also recommend looking at the Judder test results as well. Many movies were shot in 24fps and modern panels are a minimum 60hz. Most TVs handle this well, but if you're sensitive to this, you'll really notice it when a TV handles it poorly. Here's a quick video on judder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuEZIJDEQyo

That being said, I have displays of all kinds in my house. The U8H is a QLED panel with mini-led backlighting is noticeably better than the previous TV it replaced (Samsung KS8000 QLED). I prefer to watch movies on it over anything else in my home just because it makes the movie look so much better. 4k HDR w/ Dolby Vision content looks incredible. I don't game on it except for multiplayer Switch games, but I've heard that the processor in the TV isn't powerful enough to handle 4k 120hz as well as similar TVs from Samsung and Sony.

I have a Hisense android tv that is pretty good. I forget the model (it might be this one: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u7g) but it's fantastic for games (low latency) and has some nice settings for movies. I got it on sale for maybe $400 (55" or 60") and am overall really pleased. I mostly game on it.

It does 120Hz and that is pretty cool for some games but the general loss of graphic quality to make 120Hz happen (on PS5 of XSX) makes me prefer to just play at 60Hz. I personally wouldn't bother looking for a 120 set as that really jacks up the prices and I think even next gen is only going to be 4k60fps w/ RT. That was supposed to be the standard this gen but that's not even close to true. 4k120fps is a long ways off for consoles imo.

In another room we have a TCL Roku TV (55" 4k HDR) that I got on sale for like $200 and is going strong. The audio sucks though so when that dies I'll prob look into Hisense again. I prefer Roku's interfaces, and my Android tv sometimes sends me back to the home screen during a movie, or it takes like 15 minutes to update an app...it's clumsy and Roku (for me) has always been much better about stability.

rtings.com is the best tool out there for buying a TV. Do your research, balance price and quality.

*And don't forget to pay for professional calibration if you want to get the best picture (even though some of the auto-calibration tools are supposed to be excellent!)

What is your budget? This makes a huge difference.

I agree with using RTings. Good info and reviews there -- especially for specific stuff like how it handles an HDMI 2.1 connection and gaming lag.

I used RTings to check things out when I was looking for a pair of 75" TVs a couple of years ago. I bought the TCL 75R646s and I've been really happy with them. That said, there are newer models now to look into. yes

But, again, it makes a big difference if your budget is $500 or $5000. smile

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and help. I ended up going with the Samsung - 65" Class S90C OLED 4K. It looks great! Now to just tweak the settings.
