Check your local store. Pretty good EA games sale. Prices lower than online or marked on a few.

It takes Two for $8?! Wow. That's a really nice deal. I hope I can get that. I play 2P games sometimes with a relative of mine, and I think he'd really enjoy this one.

If anyone can get ahold of one for me, please let me know. Would really appreciate it.

Why does clearance like this happen?

If a product retails for a certain amount, why lower it drastically? Is it simply in order to make room for new inventory?

I can only speak from my experience- but our dealers give us huge deals and free products the more we buy etc So guessing target and EA had a similar thing- unless this becomes a wider sale. Clearance is to move stuff and salvage a profit of possible.

Shelf space at target (or other big name stores) is highly coveted and there is only so much of it.

Clearance is almost ways to get rid of stuff quickly to make room for new stuff (or sometimes the same stuff in a newer package).

The options are typically clearance (which lets thrm recoup some value), donating it (which will give them a tax break and good PR), or straight up binning it (which no store really wants to do if they can avoid it).

@benstylus @Feeb

Thanks for the explanations. Makes sense.

While I do like a great sale (who doesn't) it's puzzling seeing items sometimes so drastically reduced in price. Especially when it's consoles. Someone here mentioned awhile back that Gameboy Micros were on clearance at Walmart for a certain price. I don't remember what it was, but it was hard to believe. Could it have been $15? No, it couldn't have been that low, no way. Or was it? Maybe it was 30? Don't recall, but it was pretty low.

Really just shows you how much markup / room to reduce they have on softs. Hardware lines are razor thin so you don’t see this.

I checked one local target for It Takes 2 Nintendo Switch. Nothing. Didn't even see a slot for that particular game.

Probably not as much as you think, honestly. If they are clearing it out, at that point they are just cutting their losses.

Target's occasional b2g1 sales they are probably losing a bit of money but they make it back because they have so many other things people would typically buy when they are there.

That's why you almost never see gamestop doing big discounts on new games. (They do it all the time on used games, but when they are paying less than 50% of what they sell them for it's easy to do that math and see that it still works in their favor)

GameStop has a pretty different philosophy than big box - they focus on pre sales before placing an order- and usually fumble that. Big box is all about psychology and bigger purchases with better margins - just get you in the store to direct you around the sale items and hope you grab other stuff. The margins on softs have historically been known to be high- especially after the “sunk” costs of developing etc are paid. Loss leaders- they lose money on the hardware trying to sell softs or subs etc. Often these big box stores make one big order and that’s that. It’s paid for on the manufacturer side- they just want to move it and upsell etc at target.

I just came back from my 2 local Targets, and one that was a bit farther away. Couldn't get It Takes 2 for the Nintendo Switch

Of the 3 stores, only one even had the game in the showcase, but there were none left. I'm hoping it was at least bought by people looking to actually play the game.

Really hoping someone here can get one for me. I think my relative would really appreciate this multiplayer game.

The Switch port of It Takes Two is pretty rough, so play it on a different platform if possible.

My PC specs aren't great. For us to play this one together, I think the Switch would currently be my only option. If it's between the switch port or nothing, I'd try the switch port. And for $8, if I can manage to get it, I think it's worth a try.

Thank you for the heads up though. I appreciate it.

One of the Targets that I went to had an interesting sale going on specifically for Mario games on the Switch. If you're a Target circle member, you get $30 off. I thought that was a pretty solid deal.

It's really YMMV with these things. Different stores have different promotions going on.

Goes for all multi platform games on Switch honestly. The other options are always better

If you've gotta settle for the Switch version, don't even sweat it. It's one of the most fun co-op games you'll ever play regardless of platform. I own it on PS4, PS5 and Switch already and just bought it again on Steam less than 15 minutes ago.

It's that good? I've heard great things about it, but to have gotten it on multiple platforms? Makes me want to get it even more. Really want to get it for that relative of mine. Obviously I want to play it too, but it's the type of game that I think he'll really appreciate. If my PC specs were better, I'd just get it on Steam, but looks like for now the Switch version is the best option for me.

@PizzaTheHutt Is there a similar game you can compare it to, in terms of being that much fun?

@nonamesleft It's full of surprises and mechanic changes all the way through. It's like they took several game ideas and mashed them into one. Each character plays very differently, too.

Thanks.

I wonder if I had gotten to the store earlier on Sunday if there would have been any left. Not that much time had passed from when I read about the deal until when I was able to go to Target. Went around mid-late afternoon. But the shelf was already empty.
