1-Feb(#2)I’m about 7 hours in for GoW Ragnarok and I think it finally clicked with me that I just don’t like the gameplay much. The first one I had fun because the story and the world was new but now I’m just not that interested in much beside the story, and I feel like just watching the story on YouTube.
Orlandu

2-Feb(#3)You probably won't like it much more than you do now. You might try turning it to the easiest difficulty and completely skip all side-quests. That will make the game move much faster. You also eventually get an added layer to combat, but it's probably not enough to significantly alter your opinion of the game.

You know honestly I gave it another go last night and lowered the difficulty to just below default and started enjoying it a lot more. I’m fully invested again for now.
I don’t know what it is about this game, I’m generally pretty good at games, but I can’t get good at this combat system

2-Feb(#5)It's a big game and I had more fun when I lowered the difficulty. Just grinding away during battles got old after 15+ hours and when easier I enjoyed the faster progression.
MrBean

2-Feb(#6)I enjoyed Ragnarok, beat it on Hard, with Plat ... but I'd kinda agree with @Shane12m.
Couldn't/can't quite put my finger on it, but it just didn't feel as fun/engaging as the first for some reason. Overall it was a absolutely a great game, but I found myself feeling that I was just grinding to get through it. I enjoyed the combat, didn't find it overly difficult until the very end of the game (two bosses stood out as very challenging). The amount of back tracking was a bit much, and in retro I should have waited to do it at the end vs. constantly doing it throughout. Still, I think it's absolutely worth the time.
Yet, I felt the same way about HFW as well. The first of each of these series was much better to me personally. Still, glad I played them, great experiences.
Orlandu

3-Feb(#8)There's always an enemy behind you, too. Doesn't matter how you try to position your back to a wall, they will always spawn behind you. The tight third camera and a main character that moves like a tank sucks for this type of game.
kevolones

3-Feb(#12)I played Ragnarok on Normal difficulty. I remember I played the first one on the hardest and it took away from the experience. I found Normal Difficulty to be perfectly balanced for a fun yet challenging playthrough. Plat is not tied to the difficulty either
Orlandu

3-Feb(#13)@Archer You aren't missing much. Both sequels are a step down. Both are fine examples of more not necessarily being better.
longhornsk57

3-Feb(#14)disagree on Horizeon FW. They expanded the story, kept the awesome gameplay and made a really good game. I liked it as much as the first one. Can't wait for the third installment.
Haven't played GoW R yet, but we'll see...
Orlandu

3-Feb(#18)I got about 3-4 hours in and gave up on it. Not sure why, but moving around felt so clumsy (getting stuck on the environment, poor flow in general). Had to turn on all the accessibility stuff just to see what I could even grab. Elden Ring felt way better, which was surprising to me since From games tend to feel kind of stiff.
kevolones

4-Feb(#22)It is basically more of the same in terms of gameplay. Just more story and little improvements here and there really. But, for me the first ones where amazing, and so are these.
Play it now if you already bought it.

Ya that is pretty gay, but not even as bad as those places like gamestop that ONLY sold these stupid ass bundles with like extra controllers and stuff.

People still talk like this? I used to until I said something similar around a good friend that I knew was gay. She was super offended, but at least she was cool enough to call me out while making fun of me.
longhornsk57

4-Feb(#25)I have gay friends and we always say that. They say much worse to me just talking crap no bad intentions. I think my friends and I just know the intention is good so it's just a phrase.
I'm sorry if that is offensive I'll be more careful in these forums if that's the case.

I know, and I agree, but people on here get offended and I am not trying to start a big thing about it by arguing about it, especially not trying to derail a PS5 thread.

Not offended, just thought it was weird because I haven't heard anybody say that for a long time.
Carry on with the PS5 discussion.

I heard it a couple weeks ago, some kid maybe 10 or 11 years old at gamestop was calling Xbox gay because he was buying a PlayStation game.
Which is about the age group I associate with it being used as an insult (no offense intended to longhorn, just from my experiences in the early days of Xbox live)

13-Feb(#39)I played through Rifted Apart a month ago and looking at it outside of the launch window shine, I had plenty of complaints. I didn't really have any bugs though, but found it super annoying how the game encourages exploration yet a lot of staircase looking things waist-high can't be jumped on. Jumping up to only slide down off it was constantly happening.
Orlandu

13-Feb(#40)I bailed out of A Rift Apart after an hour or so. I've never played any of the other games in the series. To me it just seemed like a dull corridor shooter. Maybe I'm missing something.
Orlandu

13-Feb(#42)Did the rift stuff ever turn into anything more than just instantaneous movement to different cover points? It seemed like it had a lot of potential.
bill

14-Feb(#44)I remember enjoying the Ratchet & Clank games, but I guess it was mostly on ps2. So, a long time ago. I haven't played Rift Apart. Looking at trophies, I played the ps4 Ratchet & Clank almost 6 years ago (but no other R&C is in my trophy list... strange, maybe I missed some). I want to play Rift Apart, but I'm hoping to get it cheap (or "free" via Extra). It's currently $70 in the ps store (lowest sale price was $30 last month).
From memory, the R&C games were light, highly-animated (mostly bolts flying all over the place) and colorful games. The weapons you acquire along the way had an enjoyable variety to them and the upgrades were satisfying too. That kept me motivated. I recall there were challenges and puzzles at times. Also, exploration aspects where I had to find secret passages to hidden items. The parts where you play Clank to sneak into small areas (not sure all games had this... one game was mostly Clank) helped vary what you were doing too. The story stuff was cartoonish and amusing. I liked that it wasn't strictly linear too, you could travel around to different areas to make progress.
But yeah, it has been a while. And, I'm sure not everyone would be into this sort of game. I think they are mostly highly-rated and sold well, though. I don't recall any being buggy, so it's disturbing to hear that Rift Apart is.
bonham2

14-Feb(#45)I should start saving screen shots. I was playing one of the puzzle sections last night and I missed a jump. Clank landed on the side of the platform and got stuck on a metal rim, I tried to walk to my death, but he just started walking on air. Another time I was trying to get to a hard to reach area, was sliding on an invisible barrier in the sky and fell into a hole that was surrounded by invisible walls. After a few seconds of trying to get out, Ratchet started glitch jumping up into the sky. Those are some of the bad examples, but I have encountered at least one glitch every 5-10 minutes.
I have played every R&C game before, and while they aren't the pinnacle of 3D platforming, they have always been well made with fun and varied weapons. The weapons in this are way too similar and tired. Many of the old weapons have returned (RYNO, Buzz Blades, Glove of Doom, etc), and the new weapons are just variations of old weapons. Some of the older weapons were so much fun, like turning enemies into chickens.
The graphics are beautiful, and I guess I'm still enjoying enough to play to the end, but I'm just seriously disappointed after such glowing reviews. And I would have thought they would patch some of this stuff by now.
Kommie

14-Feb(#46)I never had an issue with Rift Apart.
longhornsk57

22-Feb(#48)Quite possibly my favorite game of all time, Nier Automata, is on sale right now for $18 in case someone hasn't played it yet.
It's about 50 hours with minimal side crap and is just an amazing experience from gameplay to story to everything else.
longhornsk57

22-Feb(#50)What j meant was the first time i beat it i did minimal side stuff and it took about 50 hours.
A complete play would be a ton more hours over twice as much probably

I am selling my barely used v2 black ... because I'm insane and going to pay even more money for a custom build.

7-Mar(#59)For those of you that beat Horizon:FW what level were you by/near the end? I think I'm about 20 and I feel like this is turning into an Assassins Creed that just seems to go on forever. I'm trying to decide if I power through or just set it aside for a few months and come back later.

Main story is pretty short. After 2 full plays I was level 65. Cap is 50 but “ghost levels” continue with no stats. I hit cap before finishing first playthrough but I’m a completionist. Nothing is super difficult unless you’re on hard etc- then you need to cap.
Kommie

7-Mar(#61)I beat HFW at like, 12-15 hours. Did one optional Tallneck and that was it.
longhornsk57

7-Mar(#62)Ya i didn't really do any side stuff and was pretty under leveled at the end. I can check my actual stats but the last boss was almost impossible because of how under leveled i was.
Definitely didn't grind it at all.
Kommie

7-Mar(#63)I also dumped it to story mode at some point.
Anxiouz

7-Mar(#64)Thanks all. I may stick with it then but just focus on the main missions.

I think I actually did do that on the final boss honestly, got tired of replaying it.

10-Mar(#69)Just finished the demo too. Short but sweet. Man the graphics look stellar. They continue to impress me with this RE engine. And the village opening section still gives me anxiety 18 years later. Now with more ray tracing in HDR.

Have they released anything of note other than RE, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter?
I guess there are some Arcade compilations too (which I like) but honestly I can't remember the last time I saw them stray from their big three IP for new games.

Yeah its been a while since they have gambled on new IPs. Or even revived IPs like Bionic Commando. They did well with RE and SF these past years so hopefully they do something new or revived soon.
I would love a new Onimusha or Lost Planet.
