League Overview:
Welcome to Year 7 of the GameTZ Fantasy Gaming League! This is basically fantasy football with games. Each person picks 10 games and those 10 games make up your "team" for the year. The OpenCritic scores for your 10 games are tallied up at the end of the year to determine your total. Highest overall score wins. You also get 2 alternate picks (these should be safe choices) just in case one of your picks gets delayed into 2025. So if you shoot for the moon with a game like Marvel's Wolverine and it gets pushed into 2025, one of your alternates takes its place and you don't end up with 0 points for that game. The goal is to pick games that you think have a very good chance of releasing in 2024. Don't YOLO your way into a bunch of 0s lol.
The Rules: 1. No DLC or Expansions 2. No Ports or Remasters (full remakes are allowed) 3. Alternate picks can only replace games delayed into 2025. They cannot be used to replace games in your top 10 that review poorly.
The Prizes: 1st Place: A $100 Amazon Gift Card 2nd Place: A $20 Amazon Gift Card 3rd Place: A $10 Amazon Gift Card
Ya know what kinda bugs me about Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (specifically the remake)? Normally I have no complaints about games running at 30fps as long as it is consistent and doesn't dip below that. Of course 60fps would be ideal, but I can deal with 30. But this Paper Mario remake was confirmed yesterday to be running at 30, when the original on GameCube was a locked 60. I feel like when you are tasked with remastering or remaking a game, you should aim to match the fps of the source material, or improve upon it if it was sub-60 to start with, but not cut it in half. I know the Switch is old hardware at this point, but it shouldn't be breaking a sweat with this game.
Ewww really? That’s despicable by today’s standards. Hellblade 2 is also making console versions locked to 30fps. Luckily that I’ll just be getting game pass for a month to hit and quit it though so that’s really no love lost but spending $60 on a remake, first of all, only for them to have the original perform better is beyond baffling not to mention frustrating.

That seems strange to me. I don't know that much about hardware, but I would think that the switch is more powerful than the and while that doesn't necessarily mean that a remastered game would automatically be a simple thing to capture the same fps, it's surprising to me that it would go from 60 to 30. Personally, as long as there's no lag I don't mind. But still. Surprising to me.
I wouldn’t put it past them. I’m sure they’re already salivating at the idea. They already started flirting with the $70 price tag with Zelda TOTK at launch.
Kicking myself for taking Animal Well off my list. I had it last year but news about release dates was lacking so I decided not to have it. Looking to be like mid to high 80s so far
Animal Well looks pretty good. Had no clue about it until today. It's interesting to me how certain games I know about long in advance but certain games I hear next to nothing about.
Yep I put in my two cents on those earlier on a few weeks ago...I would be SHOCKED if Hellblade 2 was in te 60's and 70's but if it is good call on that, gents.
Hellblade II: Senua’s Sacrifice - 89 Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door - 86
> Too bad Hellblade will sell poorly since no one will buy it because of LamePass
But that wouldn't affect the scoring though.
You make a good point about game pass. I'm speculating that Microsoft's financial team has data to support that enough revenue comes in from either game pass or other sources in order to offset actual copies sold.
Yeah I have no intention on buying Hellblade II since its gonna be on GP. And I’m in no rush to play it as I have a bunch of stuff ahead of it. Perhaps MS should rethink their strategy and push out new 1st party releases on GP for like 6 months post launch as I’m sure everyone who isn’t a kid anymore and has real world responsibilities isn’t lining up to play it on launch day. That's like half their demographic right there. So it might mitigate frequent GP price hikes too and boost overall sales near a game’s launch window at the same time.
So far Hellblade II is sitting at an 84 on OC from 70 critic reviews. I figured it would land in the 80’s somewhere even tho I over shot my score by a few points.
> Wow. I'm off by 1 for both of them? Now that's just a tease.
It's not over yet. I won't finalize our guesses until tomorrow morning since scores can move up and down as more reviews come in. So there still a chance!

> So are you counting 89 or 90? You updated op with 90 but OC is now at 89.
Scores in the OP are just whatever the OpenCritic scores were when I did the update. So the scores aren't always exact since scores can go up or down a point or two throughout the year and going in and updating it every time the score goes up or down a point is a chore.
For our guesses I go with whatever the OpenCritic score is the morning after reviews drop. So I give it a day for reviews to settle down and then whatever the score is the morning after is what I go with.
I can understand some of their points. I honestly never imagined this would get a sequel and it sounded like they kind of had to make one since MS bought Ninja Theory's studio or else, so it kind of makes sense where some things may feel out of placed, tacked on or forced opposed to the first game's organically feeling story and story beated elements. I see a bunch of GP deals now. I may just re-up for a 3-monther code and run thru this and a few other games I had my eye on in GP over the past few months.
Hellblade has very mixed reviews, though it's holding in the 80s overall. These are going to be interesting reads (yes, you should read reviews instead of just the numbers xD)
There are two games that I know of that are set for a June release, but I don't think anyone here has them on their list: Killer Clowns from Outer Space, and Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance.
That second one might be a remaster though. Seems like it has some extra content, like maybe an alternate story or something, but I don't know much about it other than it's set for June.
Seeing Tekken 8 as one of my alts still hurts. And I think not having Metaphor: ReFantazio might end up costing me. But if Microsoft Flight Simulator reviews well, I think I should be in the mix when it's all said and done.
MS has turned to the darkside. They’re the gaming industry’s Imperial Galactic Empire from Star Wars. Constantly devouring up studios to do nothing but strike fear into the hearts of those who oppose them. Fear will keep those local systems who they acquired in line. Fear of their layoff battle station.

Maybe? With as many layoffs as their have been in the gaming industry (not just MS) I'm sure a lot of folks are brushing up their resumes anyway. People are realizing their dream job may not be quite the dream.
That’s why I never pursued a career in the gaming industry. The closest I got was managing a GameStop but they’re probably worse or just as bad as publishers. I still refuse to buy anything from a GameStop to this day after working there and witnessing the horrors that go on behind the scenes.
